Here's our (current) workflow for drawing plans... I say that as we have changed our workflow several times over the years since using SU and LO for all our CDs. As a general note - we have used Buildedge for a while now to quickly draw walls and openings until we have a completed schematic model at which point we "commit" the model and work w basic SU functionality. Buildedge is super fast at quickly drawing walls, openings, floors and roofs and is very versatile for plan modifications. Once the plans is solid, we commit the Buildedge model to SU. As far as getting your model onto paper space... We tried Michael Brightman's workflow for a while w good success, our main issue with it was that you are constantly clicking inside multiple containers (groups) to modify things. We then switched to our own layer structure w simple layer grouping and Skalp as the main source for creating section fills. This also works great with one drawback... If you use SU models in the field on iPads as we do, the plan fills and sections now don't work because you used a plugin to create them - I'd say if you don't have that need, go that route. We now use Nick Sonders process w our own layer structure and it seems to work best for our case.

@miikka1978 said: Could you specify the page where it starts? Sure, the article is "10 Steps to 3D printing your Sketchup Model in Full Color" on p. 13, and the texturing portion starts on p. 16. In the article, I show how to manually create a texture map and apply it to an object. For more info on how to edit the texture map in Photoshop, there is a good tutorial here: Use Image Editing Software Inside SketchUp. In my Catchup tutorial, the unwrapping and mapping is done manually. There are plugins that may make the task faster like SketchUV and Fredo's ThruPaint, but I have not used them myself.

Some points to consider: All openings through which light can "escape" (directly to the background or environment) must be covered with exit portals. The exit portal normals must point inwards. Bi-directional path tracing mode must be used. Glass acceleration cannot be used. source: http://www.indigorenderer.com/documentation/manual/indigo-sketchup/tutorials/using-exit-portals-sketchup

View your model in Monochrome mode using a Style that has a distinctive color for the back-face material [usually a 'bluish' color in most standard styles]. This will show which way round faces are. Most renderers will use the front-material you set, but render 'backs' of visible faces as a default black [or sometimes white] color. Your model should have all of its faces correctly oriented so you see no 'backs'. To reverse a face [or faces] select and right-click context-menu 'Reverse Faces'... the face will 'flip' to be the right way round... Now it will render with correct material as applied to its 'front' face. Even a sheet of glass is not a single 'face' in the real world - IF your window is ever going to be viewed from both sides then you need to make the pane of glass with a thickness - 6-25mm say. With both faces of the pane correctly oriented it should then be rendered transparent in both directions. You might find your particular renderer has a requirement to use special types of transparent materials - you'll need to read up on it - as it's beyond the scope of SUp modeling and SCF's advice...
