    • RE: KT Interior Render

Thanks all for the nice words.

CraigD, "Tropical Garden" by Stu Mayhew displayed in the KT site gallery is photorealistic even from 18" away!!

      Tom, at 974 x 623 pixels resolution and "PhotonMap+Caustics - High + AA 0.3" setting it took 33 minutes on a P4 3ghz 512mb RAM and 128mb VRAM.

Fletch, Wow! a comment from a KT guru! I had also noticed those two light behaviour (KT Lights - Ceiling3) and tried changing to spotlights but didn't like it either. Thanks for the pointer on PS shadow/highlights.

    • KT Interior Render

      Hi all,

After one week of trying out Kerkythea, this is what I have to show. Hopefully I have achieved the right ambience; your objective crits and comments is the only way to know for sure whether it has indeed been achieved or not. Design-wise the scene is hypothetical.

This is a straight KT output but had to reduce pixel width since I can't use the forum server (posted problem in appropriate topic). There is one spot I would like to touch up but my PhotoShop skill is novice level. While on PS, on my machine any image looks brighter in PS than any other viewer (?).

PS: AV components are available for sharing if anybody wants/needs.

      Hi Guite,
Oh yes that is ur sofa, sorry forget to give you credit earilier. the hazy edges are not intentional infact till now I am still trying to get a sharper image . the 1st image took 45 min and 2nd 26min...

Its always nice to see your (meaning mine) work put to good use. The warmth in your image is appealing, well suited for a cold climate region, takes away from the coldness of the white external wall and ceiling.

26 to 45 minutes is a decent time. Yesterday I tried a rendering (after a gap of about three years), this time in Kerkythea, for one of our office projects. After adjusting textures and setting up six omni lights, I started to render a night scene 800x600 pixels in a high setting- path tracing high or MLT I think. It still was not done after two hours. So I cancelled it and just exported raw from SU.

Edges seem hazy, is that intentional or software idiosyncrasy? I also agree that the spotlights are a bit strong. Moreover, there is no apparent light fixtures where those spots are coming.

How much time did it take to render each image?

I thought I saw my sofa sets for the first time in a render (rub eyes), looks very similar! viewtopic.php?f=16&t=721

You are welcome, Nigel. Hope you find what you are looking for, I remember seeing something similar discussed over there.

    • RE: Optical Illusion

As the backrest disappears off your screen, does the chair not seem to orbit, sort of like 3D effect? As the angle between the backrest rows and your screen bar changes, the chair seem to rotate on a horizontal axis. Or is it just me?

Discovered this by accident. Scroll the screen up slowly so that backrest disappears upward. Attaching the image as well, just to be future proof.

Ah more heavy you mean, yeah subtile difference but I like it a little lighter. Thanks for the suggestion!

Design and its' perception is subjective. As I have mentioned in my first comment, it's just my personal preference.

I like the perspective effect. Though, personally, I feel the light green on white background is, well, too light. The intertwined C's is a nice idea, I would prefer it to be bolder. Looks very good in the dark background.

    • RE: DWF File?

Just dxfin into a blank AutoCAD file, type dxfin at the command line, and save as dwg. Then import into SketchUP, matching the units of the dwg, skp and import option.

Edit: I am assuming you have AutoCAD, since you did not mention otherwise. If not, please ignore.

Go through the AutoLISp section of CADtutor forum here, I am sure you will find it. If you can't find post a request, you will either be pointed to relevant posts or someone will write a routine for you. There is a very good (in AutoLISP) and helpful Russian guy there.

Congratulations Jason on your beautiful baby.

From this topic itself its apparent that quite a few members have become parents in the recent past. I suggest someone start a 'my baby' thread, it would be fun. I'll definitely join in.

It definitely looks like a photo, it's that realistic!!

Now show us a photo of the real thing, there must be some sign of usage on it like scratches or something that will differentiate it from this render. Smile

    • RE: A Question of Ethics

To me, it's not about the product that's going to be produced there but the location. Ethanol is a green product and all that, but producing it close to a city centre is bad idea, IMHO. It's an industrial establishment and so is best located in an industrial area outside the city. If located close to the city centre, it's definitely going to be an eyesore (just did a Google image search). I don't know anything about ethanol plants, but what about noise and smoke emission, if any?

Bruce, your effort, if successful at the larger context, is going to make your city retain its character.
