    • RE: How to Model this (turned leg)

There are various ways of doing it, here are some quick basic steps:

      1. Import the image into SketchUP.
      2. Trace out on the image, using pencil and arc tools, half profile of that thing you want to model, so that you get a surface.
      3. Draw a circle and rotate it so that its plane is perpendicular to the profile surface.
      4. Line up the centre of the circle and axis of the profile.
      5. Select the circle, take the follow me tool and click on the profile surface.

    • RE: Help! desktop won't load windows xp

      Hi James,

In case you have not solved your problem yet, here is another way to create your bootable CD:

      1. Download DOS 6.22 boot files from here. Instead of running the downloaded file, extract it using Winzip, etc.
      2. Follow the instructions in this site for writing bootable CD using Nero Burning ROM. Ignore the part about contents of the 'root' folder.
      3. In this boot CD include a copy of l_intl.nls file from your laptop.

If you have succeeded this far, you should (hopefully) be able to boot your desktop using this CD. If it does, let it load CD-ROM support and when it reaches command prompt, looking some thing like this C:>, type:
*copy D:\l_intl.nls C:\windows\system32* and press enter (assuming D is your assigned CD drive and the file is at the root of the CD).

      Hope this helps.

Well, I am not the only one confused by the plethora of subforums. πŸ˜„ I wish that poll had stayed on longer, I didn't even get time to climb down from the fence I was sitting on πŸ˜„ .

Another thing that confuses me is that the word "Subforum" is more prominent than the subforum titles.

From your description, it appears to be the "moire" effect. Scaling up the texture should help to alleviate the problem.

    • RE: Smooth a Sphere

You can increase the number of segments in the initial arc or circle you are using to generate the sphere. Unfortunately you cannot increase the number of segments in the finished sphere.

Another point to note is that you should consider how smooth you need it to be. If your model is going to contain just the sphere and very little else, make it as smooth as you want. On the other hand if the sphere is part of a large model where the sphere is not going to be prominent, a very smooth sphere is only going to bog down your model unnecessarily.

    • RE: Scale printing bug?

I did some further tests as per all the steps outlined by Gaieus. A 6"x6" square took two A4 sheets at 1:1 πŸ˜• , a 3"x3" square printed just fine- true to scale in one sheet.

    • RE: Scale printing bug?

      CWatters,

I had never tried scale printing from SU before. Upon reading your post I tried printing a simple 6"x6" square @ 1:1 on an A4 sheet (8.3"x11.7"). There is obviously something funny here, unless I am missing something illogical. SU did not fit it in one sheet but spreads it across two.

If I untick 'Use model extents' SU demands a paper size of 12.0832" x 7.3684"; if ticked, paper size fields display 16" x 16". This is strange. Hopefully someone will provide better insight on this matter.

    • RE: Deleting image texture

Please refer attached screen shot: Window menu >> Materials >> 'Select' tab >> In Model (house icon) >> right click on texture. Deleting the face does not delete the texture from your SU file. As for reworking the texture itself, you can reload your modified texture from the Edit tab.

    • RE: Push/Pull results in deleated plane

I see. There is a ruby script which lets you drop SU objects onto a terrain. I don't remember the name; maybe that will help. You can let the script drop your house components onto the GE terrain you have already imported into SketchUP. The fences will still be a problem.

If you can make do with just lines indicating property boundaries, then my suggestion will work. Inbetween the last post and this, I did a quick example, see attached. Tilt the view to see how the lines drap over the terrain. I have left some lots faces and coloured it to illustrate possibilities.

I don't see any 3D element in the first image above. It appears to me to be just road lines and property lines.

    • RE: Push/Pull results in deleated plane

Should work as image overlay. The trick would be to create an image with transparency containing only the lines from your model, no faces.

Maybe there is a way to export image with transparency from SketchUp. I have never done, just did a simple unsuccessful test. You can still export a parallel projection top view image of your model, and edit the image.
