Can confirm, I have VCarve Desktop v8.5 and it can import dwg, dxf, skp, ai and so on. I have yet to try SU file but so far dwg and other vector files are usable. I use it with a Shark HD 4 CNC.

    • Small church model - personal project

Here are a few images of a small church that I have been working on. It is a church in a nearby town that I thought would be fun to model. I found the plans on line at the state university digital archive.
      SU image and Blender image

Still need to work on textures.

      2019 question

Is there going to be an error/problem thread for this version?

I have noticed that the selection click is not as fast as it was with the first 2019 version. Sometimes it takes 3 or more clicks to make a selection. This is occurring inconsistently on lines, groups, and components.

I've noticed that my selection click "drops" (lack of a better term) after certain procedures after this update as well. I am having to press the selection shortcut key or the icon to re-activate it.

Again, for these interim releases, will my current license info work?

Have other Classic users received an email? If so, I wonder why I have not received anything.

I received the normal "New features" e-mail but saying that I needed to update. I went ahead and downloaded.

Anyone play with the BIMotion yet. I am able to get it to work but the resolution just looks horrible but still images look good. Is there some sort of setting for better looking export?

Hmm, dunno, I logged in with my faceBook credentials and it was instant.

I used my work G-mail account and all was well.

    • RE: Dyslexia question

Hi L i am, I did see that list of high achieving individuals and that makes me feel better. I find 3D very easy as well as space planning like 2D CAD. I remember in 8th grade that I scored top of my class in a particular end of grade State test for space/shape awareness. The test had 3D objects and we had to choose with unfolded shape matched the 3D shape as well as other similar questions. I made good grades in school, A's and B's for the most part. I actually did better in Spanish than I did in English πŸ˜‰ I did manage to obtain 2 college degrees, an Associate in Architecture (2 year) and a BS in Civil Engineering. I still find it a struggle even today to manage with my short comings. I have to type out an e-mail and then re-read it to make sure that all of the sentences make sense and aren't missing words and such. Sometimes I still find I missed something. I work at a private University and we had a directors retreat last year and we had to go around the room and call out our biggest weakness. I claimed that I could not spell, at all. I followed up by thanking God that I could draw. πŸ˜‰

Lots of great info in that article - I'm most excited about the idea that Twinmotion could act as a link to Unreal Engine. One of the things I really struggled with with Datasmith was that the process was very complex and clunky - If Unreal can get Twinmotion set up as a tool where you can easily set up materials, etc, then export that into Unreal for full on effects rendering, that could be ultra powerful πŸ˜„

I agree Justin, so far I tried a few models and they worked really well and EASY. So far a win-win for us.

I honestly think that I might a bit. I have ALWAYS been a horrible speller. I sometimes, either typing or writing, put words in a sentence out of order or drop words altogether.

Thanks Glenn. Are you using Revit for Cd's and visualization or SketchUp for viz, or a combination?

I only use Revit on BIM files that we get from outside consultants. I primarly use AutoCAD/Arch and SU in a mixture of space planning and small projects that we don't hire out (I work for a University). I just completed a proposal for a new point of sale cabinet for one of the cafeterias. Went from Acad to SU and then to Simlab. I do perform test renders in SU with Ambient Occlusion. The cabinet has to go around a column (reason for rear curved section). It should match existing millwork.

But FormZ has been around a LONG time. Then they made Bonsai/FormZ Junior. Leads one to wonder if they haven't worked it out yet, when? Just as with SketchUp. Maybe look at that: SU to block out components, FormZ to put it together.

I'm sorry, I meant that FormIt needs to work on it's UI. FormZ's is not terrible but that old interface could use an update.

    • RE: Has anyone tried Formit by AutoDesk instead of SketchUp?

Yes, I have access to the pro version with my subscription. The desktop version is FAR better than the mobile version imo but at least they have a mobile version. As a seasoned AutoDesk user (since '96) I can honestly say that FormIt has a LONG way to go to honestly ever compete with SU. It's interface is clumsy and not user-friendly at all. Yes it is a good tool to start a massing and then bring into Revit but that's about it. I've seen some great looking models from FormIt but I have also seen some great images from MS Paint users as well. Anything that was done in FormIt could have been in SU in 1/4 or less of the time. To me FormZ is a bigger threat to SU than AutoDesk's FormIt. It is NOT on subscription and has a better tool set than SU has (not counting SU extensions). It has potential but that UI needs some help. It does seem to be able to bring in SU models, for some reason.
