    • RE: 20 Reasons for SketchUp artists to consider Blender

Hey Chipp, I am starting to play a bit with SU2Blender. I brought in a model I did for a builder many years ago and just hit render to see what I get. I am seeing some "artifacts" in the basic render. Any ideas?
      TIA

Agreed Dave, I myself had very little issues from Win7 to 10 but going to something like ARM might be a big deal. If it ever happens that is. I remember NO ONE believed that Apple would drop PowerPC either πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Also remember that future OS updates "might" cause it to not run. Just think about the rumor that Apple is looking at going to ARM for their Macbooks. The last OSX SU Make installer will NOT run on an ARM based Macbook, unless some black-magic is used πŸ˜‰

Love that new OpenGL stuff in Blender. I hoped for that and some UV editor in this 2019 SU version.

It would have been great for SU to have included a nice Ambient Occlusion engine. Something like the AO from Fluid Interactive. I did buy it around Christmas and it's pretty nice.

but none of them have the ease of Sketchup.

About their only saving grace at the moment imho. It's just so damn easy in SU to get my ideas out. I have access to Form-Z but I am just so SU ingrained. IF and when Blender ever gets a way to mimic SU it might be over. πŸ˜‰

edit: The thread is from January 2017. Do you know if this is still in development?

Last update on Twitter was from June. I just sent a message to them to see if they are still actively working on this.

Like i said before, it would be great, if someone could develop the key features of SU (inferencing, push-pull, double click to open instance/group,...) as add-on for Blender or Max.

Someone is working on something for Unity. It would be cool if they would adopt it to Blender 3D.

So the new "features" for this year are a subscribtion based model, a bundle with Sefaira, dashed lines and Marc? Can this be true? Really?!? πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

So glad that I just paid my $120 maintenance.

... IMO, SU can continue in its 2018 version indefinitely....

Unless Windows and MacOS have some sort of update that breaks compatibility with v2018. Who knows what's down the line with them. I mean Apple has been hinting at an Arm based Macbook for a bit now. I don't see how an non updated SU2018 could run on an Arm based machine.

... but you won't be able to do a fresh install and activate any of the older versions. I suppose they do it that way to curb unauthorized installations.

This is a shame. This is one of the benefits of having an AutoDesk subscription. You can download and install older versions of the software if you have some sort of need like to run an older version say for a 3rd party add-on or plugin that is not updated yet. Oh well, maybe one day.
