It as if Father Ted and The Hobbit had a spinoff series. The image itself looks very CG. The lack of bevels and the overuse of busy patterns give it an unrealistic appearance. The HDR/Background Image is too low res which adds to the CG feel. Not my cup of tea but if you're chuffed with the result then that's all that matters.

Probably because the component you have created was initially locked an axis. Select the definition in the Component-Browser and Edit it to remove its 'axial-locking' [aka 'Glue-to']. You could also select an instance and edit its 'axial-locking' [aka 'Glue-to'] in its right-click > context-menu...

Much improved, you need a night hdri for ambient and a reduction in the artificial light level. What render program are you using?

SketchUp v2017 Make is the last available desktop version. It works in Win10 [64bit]. It is for non-commercial use. The newer 'Pro' versions all work with Win10, but of course it cost$... For non-commercial work there's the free Web based version, which is newer when looking at its functionality, however it doesn't support 'extensions', and has some other limitations and differences that you might not appreciate/need... For non-commercial work I'd suggest trying v2017 Make as your first step...
