Nice! I didn't notice that until you pointed it out! Now I can't stop seeing it. Sort of like the FedEx arrow.

The Word of God is right! The Scripture is self-explanatory and almost everybody has access to study the Bible.
As for me, Iβm an independent believer... Everyone is (i)responsible for himself/herself, for there is one God, and only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

I see no rebuttals to the opinions I posted in response to your thoughts, you've answered nothing. This is not a discussion, but is just your posting dogmatic responses to all comers. I'm stepping out, there appears to be little or no room for anyone's thoughts or beliefs here but your own.

Nice model. I like how the living (office?) space appears suspended above the ramps and parking deck and the deep-set slightly rounded windows. Lends it a slightly futuristic look.

Ah, this I did not know. Thanks!

RE: 2012
Judging is fine, as long as one admits that once you "judge" you are open to judgment - as per the scripture Cornel doggedly quotes.
Cornel, I'm not sure how you got that I thought I was "above" anything - but then I'm not sure I understand exactly what it is you were trying to say. I'll consider that there may be allowances in scripture for "ifs", but that doesn't jive with what you seem to be saying about there being a big plan for everything. As far as your comment about "1/3 of the world", I don't understand what you are saying. It is a fact that the rest of the world outside of Christianity is not Christian that means they believe in no god, or entirely different god and might even have a completely different idea on how to get to their afterlife (if they have one) than you do. They don't care what is on the radio, TV or in the hotel nightstand. They have no reason to believe that their religion, or lack thereof, is inferior to your belief system; and considering that there are around 66% more of them than Christians, who is to say they aren't right?
This conversation seems to be more about "who" is right rather than "what" is right for you. Your belief system is better and more right than anyone else's. The lack of tolerance, understanding and compromise are the cause of more hate and war on this rock, especially in the name of religion, than anything else. I don't think you'll convert anyone here, Cornel, especially with the intolerant and judgmental views you seem to be presenting here. There has to be room for us all.

RE: Wood Floors direction???
Ditto what he said, but having installed several wood floors myself, I can add a couple of considerations. One is if there is a dividing wall or door that the wood floor must continue around or through. This is a problem if the house or walls are not perfectly square, as you will need to compensate for any out of true lines and I can say that wood flooring does not bend easily. The further the walls are out of true, the more difficult it is to have long, straight runs of flooring, especially if you continue the flooring through more than one room. Not really a problem in SU, because our walls are "perfect". To make it more "real" in SU, you could place a couple of boards perpendicular across the door, opening or transition and then continue the flooring after that. Also, when coming up on carpeting or tile, you can apply the same "trick". Just my $.02 if you already hadn't seen this.

RE: 2012
Interesting topic. Too bad it has devolved from a movie critique, but I'll put in my $.02 anyway. If there is a God, it's my opinion that what we have been given is pretty simple: Here's your life, here's a planet, here are your bretheren; I've told you not to screw them up, but it's up to you what you actually do.
Otherwise - your life is scripted. There's nothing you can do. God wants entire continents to suffer war, starvation, and disease, not to mention you will likely die a painful or slow, debilitating death (cancer, heart attack, alzheimers, etc...), not peacefully in your sleep. For what reason? Not to mention that the Christian version of religion does not encompass much more than 1/3 of the world.
So, where does that leave us? More than 60% of the world is not getting a Christian afterlife, pretty much no matter what. If you are a Christian and born to a bad environment such as a war torn country or a "3rd world" nation where you will suffer disease, starvation, and deprivation until you die, what chance were you given? Your life was scripted suffering? What about wars done in the name of religion, is God truly on one side an not the other?
Some people have said it better than I can:
βIs God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?β β Epicurus
βI like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christβ. - Mahatma Gandhi
I find there are no absolutes in this life, least of all a book of subjective and shifting interpretation written by the hand of fallible men, and called absolute only by fanatics bent on condemning all those around them solely based on the opinion that they are right. This life would be closer to "heaven" if there were no religions, it would remove a major cause of hate and war.

RE: Help our model is possessed
I had a similar problem and it was not a CAD model. What had happened was that I'd scaled the model up to 100X to do some detail work on curves that didn't work at normal size (bugsplat).
If you scaled the model up, made parts groups or components, and then scaled it down to "life" size, this may be the problem.
I had to explode the component at life size dimensions and then recreate the component to make the crazy clipping go away.
Don't know if that's what happened to you, but it's one of the solutions out there.

RE: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU
It's way back at post #8 on page 1, but here ya go:
E8400 Core Duo
EVGA 9800GTX+ x 2 in SLi
4 GB OCZ RAM
EVGA 780i FTW
WinXP SP3Nothing overclocked.

RE: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU
Wow. I got 21 FPS in a previous post without turning shadows on, I figured I'd give it a shot with shadows to see what happens. SU shadows are nasty, apparently:
That's a pretty serious hit.

RE: Kerkythea
I've used 3 or 4 of the renderers that will work with SU. IMO Kerkythea has the best balance of features and ease of use, though as you get better at it I'm sure you'll start wishing for more features. You can't beat it for free, though.

Remember, you can have a 64 core machine and SU will only use the first one...
Good point, I keep forgetting that SU will not take advantage of multiple cores. Must be the only program on my computer that will not..
-
RE: Let's have a Hardware speed test for SU
Looking at the results, it appears that SU is very graphics card dependent. I saw the 8 cores and thought it was going to stomp most everything, but no:
I only have a dual core, but the graphics cards are in SLi:
Just built this at the end of last year, 4 GB OCZ mem on WinXP, EVGA 780i FTW, nothing overclocked.

RE: Render this: Stained glass
OK, here's my "entry. I'm having no end of trouble with the textures, so this is still a WIP. Maybe I'll get around to finishing it, but I have a real window I need to work on.
All SU and Kerky.
Edit: I said I was done messing with this but I guess I lied. I couldn't stand leaving it half-finished, so I kept working on it. First shot is the whole thing, the second part is a closeup of the glass - the far view doesn't show the bump mapping. It's all geometry: Window 9' high, 1/4" thick glass, lead cameing is 3/8" and up in thickness. An absurd 800K polys thanks to the lead came.

That's a great idea. Thanks!

Is there a way to "mirror" materials on surfaces?
I'm looking to cut some editing time out of a project. The best way to describe what would like to do (and hope there is a plugin for) is to imagine a wall of boxes, the faces on one side are randomly colored. I need to match each texture on the opposite side of the wall, box for box, exactly with what is on the front. With several hundred boxes, you can see how this might be tedious. Is there any way to do this more quickly?

RE: Sketchyphysics Class
Hard to tell what to start with without knowing the skill level of the people you are teaching. If beginners, then basic grouping etc.. as Wacov said; then add basic coding and get as far as you can with that. Just what Wacov said plus basic coding is a weeks worth of class alone!
Wish I could be there for the coding part of it...
