    • Searching for animation

I've been searching for an animation produced a couple of years ago - I think it was part of a competition regarding animation & mixed media to really showcase what Sketchup can do.

The 'story' was a couple of people designing a bar/café on a laptop, over a cup of coffee.

I've typed in everything I can think of into 'search' but getting no-where. Does anyone remember it & can they show me where to look please?

While on the subject - is there any specific advice for searching for topics on the site - I never seem to find what I'm looking for. I do use bookmarks to keep track.

    • RE: How to credit warehouse models

Thanks Mitcorb. That does help - the thread gets very legal & hard to follow, but I think the comments from Alan Fraser's reply (Sat Apr 21, 2012) seem to cover my issue - that is:- I'm using models or part of them as a background for my own work & will be presenting 2D visuals only to my client. I'll also try to find a way to add credits to the final visual.

    • How to credit warehouse models

I occasionally download small elements/furniture to use in my work. However, I have a rush job this weekend that required a coffee shop in street scene as background for a display I am modelling. I'd like to use a shop/street model from the warehouse for the background. My question is how exactly do I give credit to the modeller for this?

The final visual (2D image only) will be used to market the display piece (my own modelled part). I'm pretty sure my client will not want to see credits written below the visual on the finished work.

I'd like to get this right as I know it rightly upsets modellers who share their work & don't get the acknowledgement.

    • RE: LayOut not displaying SketchUp!

      @ fionmacool

I seem to be getting a similar problem with the hardware acceleration in Open GL too. See my post in page 2 of the 'gripes' thread (below). I turned the hardware accelerations off & on again & my select box problem cleared. However, I noticed this morning that it was off again & although the select tool was working correctly (ie. without showing multiple boxes)the screen resolution was so poor everything had 'saw-tooth' edges. When I turn it back on to improve the resolution - I'm back to loads of selection boxes. At the moment it seems I've got to put up with one or other (the latter at present) 'til I find a solution.

So any suggestions, Rich? Maybe re-install SU2014? Got all my plugins up & running now, so don't want to mess anything up.

The select tool seems to have changed in SU2014 - now when I select & drag over an area I get these boxes (much like the 'zoom window' tool). Can't find anything about it in 'What's New' - Is it something new or is something wrong? & if the former... can I turn it off... don't much like it?

    • RE: SU 2014 and Plugins

I'm not sure if this is one for Sketchucation or a Twilight forum... but here goes.
I'm trying to install Twilight into SU2014 - according to the Twilight site I select the v1.5.4 specific for SU2014 and it will install automatically. However, when I open SU2014 I get this error message. The Twilight extention in checked in the system preferences window but there it no toolbar for it.

This is what I've thought for the last few days as I read through so many of the threads describing plugin problems.
      Andrew[/quote]

Indeed Andrew, I've done as per TIG's advice (couldn't leave it alone 'til tomorrow) & I'm pleased to say installing the plugins that I could obtain through SketchUcations tools was a breeze! I just have a few left that were not found at the store - hopefully I'll be able to pick these up tomorrow.

      Happy bunny!!! 😄

    • RE: SketchUp 2014

Thank you TIG, Rich & Cotty. I’m feeling a right fool! I’ve been trying to download direct from Plugins Store (top right of SketchUcation page – not via the new SketchUcation tools. – so there wasn’t an ‘Autoinstall’ option. Right – found that… followed procedure… selected AP2014 folder… clicked ‘autoinstall’… nothing happens – the plugin does not show up listed in the AP2014 folder.

Conclusion – as you advised TIG – messing about & moving files is dangerous and is probably causing me more problems. So I’m going to clean off all the plugins I’ve installed so far - & start again – tomorrow!

TIG, it sounds as though you are suggesting I may not really need Fredo’s Additional Plugins folder option? I don’t use masses of plugins – approx.. 20 regular use & perhaps 10 more rare use. I set up the additional folder on advice from the forum a couple of years ago when menus were starting to grey out. Is it perhaps not so vital now with SU2014?

Thank you again for all your patient advice, particularly for TIG's detailed explanations. I didn’t quite understand the .rbz format until now. I’ll post again when I’ve succeeded.

Hmmm...! that rings a bell Cotty. It used to be that you un-packed a few files (incl. .rb's) & a folder & just copied them to the correct place. But I'm a bit lost with .rbz's... how does one un-pack them. The only method I can find is via SU's 'system preferences' ... which puts everything back directly into SU again!

    • RE: SketchUp 2014

Sorry to bother you – I’m sure you’re getting massed of questions re: getting SU2014 going & it’s not as if I haven’t installed plugins before… but - I‘m diligently installing all my plugins from new into SU2014, (an excellent opportunity to have a tidy)

All’s going well but I do like use 000_AdditionalPluginFolders_v4.2a.rbz to keep as many plugins as will work in an ‘Additional Plugins’ (AP2014) folder. I’ve downloaded each .rbz fresh from the store to my downloads folder. For those that I’ve installed directly into SU I’ve installed each extension via the system preferences window. Perfect so far!

For those plugins I intend to keep in the ‘AP2014’ folder I copied them from the download folder & pasted them into ‘AP2014’. Although SU is setup with the ‘AP2014…’link – these plugins do not run.

I also installed them via the system preferences/install extensions – directed to the ‘AP2014’ folder – however this installed them directly into the main SU plugins folder (see 2D tools & Extrude tools in directories 1 & 2 attached)… guess that was wrong then! My question then is what else should I be doing to get the ‘AP2014’ plugins to run?

    • RE: [Plugin] CameraKeyMaker 1.0 (Update 2011-04-09)

macgile -Something else caught my eye... in the '8.0th SketchUp' parody animation you have a clever treatment for the beam of the spotlights. I'm assuming this piece is still native sketchup...? so I'm guessing you used tubes of semi-transparent white material & hid all the edges? Or is there more to it - please share, I'd love to know.
