    • RE: DC Plunge Router

Well, I finally got it to work , but I had to define an attribute (Bit) in the RouterMotor sub-component equal to the main component attribute (Bit), in each of the bit components equal to the RouterMotor Bit attribute, and then use that in the formula for the Hidden attribute (=if(Bit=1,0,1)). It would not work using the reference, Router!Bit or RouterMotor!Bit. I tried moving the bits out of the RouterMotor component, but still had to use a Bit attribute there.

I only have two bits at this time, but will add more as I get the time. The new component is here. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=7a9670cd78cc2ac5254cf6927cb0c9b6

Chris, thanks for heading me in the right direction.

    • RE: Images into a Movie?

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum to compile my animations. I tried Movie Maker, but like the versatility of Movie Studio. I can use it for the entire production after I get the images from SU.

      Chris,

Thanks a bunch, I'm sure that will be the solution. Now I just have to get it done.

    • DC Plunge Router

I created this plunge router based on a component downloaded from the 3D Warehouse some time ago, I modified that component so I won't take credit for the drawing, only the DC aspect. I have a problem. I want to be able to have the user select among several bit profiles, but cannot get the profiles to hide. Please take a look and help me work out how to get this to work. The file is 1Meg so I've uploaded to 3D Warehouse.

    • SU Animate interfers with divide line

As I reported in the SketchUp Bug Reports forum, when I select a line and divide it, all of the sections are selected except the one at the origin of the original line. After removing all plugins and restoring them one at a time, I found that SU Animate is the culprit.

    • RE: Dividing line problem?

      Chris,

Thanks for the advice, I had thought about that, but felt that something that basic would not be interfered with by a plugin.

Well, I found the culprit. Unfortunately, it is SU Animate. Since I use that extensively, I guess I'll have to live with it until SU Animate is fixed. In fact, The reason I usually divide lines is to create "curves" for paths for SU Animate...

    • RE: Dividing line problem?

It doesn't matter whether I draw the line and right click, right click on the unselected line, or select the line then right click, the results are the same.

I also have a previously noted problem that when executing an export of an animation, the dialog does not always show the proper feedback. the Frame Of counter is not correct, the Progress Bar is wrong, and the Time Remaining is wrong (going negative). However unlikely, I wonder if these have something in common?

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling v7, but the same problems are present in v6 also.

      Any ideas from the developers?

    • RE: Dividing line problem?

      Gaieus,

Any idea what I could be doing wrong?:?: The problem happens consistently. I'm attaching a video capture of my dividing using the mouse, just so you'll know I'm not imagining things.

Not the best quality, hope you can see what I'm doing.

Is it possible that there is a preference setting that might be causing this?

    • Dividing line problem?

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just the way it has always worked and I hadn't noticed. If I draw a line, select it, and divide it into, say 60 parts by tying 60 in the Measurements window, I an left with the 59 newly created segments selected, but the originating section not selected. I had always assumed that all 60 segments would remain selected. Is this how this has always worked, or is it different with v7?

    • BugSplat with Open File

Fairly frequently (every 2nd or 3rd time) 😞 , when I open the dialog to open a different file and double click on the desired file, I get a BugSplat. Is anyone else getting this behavior? I'm using v7 Pro, and doesn't seem to matter whether I'm opening a v6 or v7 file. It is getting to be quit irritating 😠 since I'm trying to update and make slight modifications to dozens of files related to an animated video I'm working on.

    • RE: SU8 - WISHLIST

I would like to see the state of DCs saved with the scene data. That way a door could be opened from one scene to another, etc. Even better would be if the action of the DC (door) were spread out over the frames created from one scene to the next.

    • SU-7.0 Export Animation Bug

Not a biggie, but SU misreports the number of frames being created in the dialog box. I get the following when exporting an animation of 91 scenes to .png files. The same bug also appeared in v6.4.

    • RE: Cool features of SU7

I am pleased that I can now navigate (orbit, zoom, etc.) within a fairly complex model, and I don't get stuck in objects, and the navigating is faster and smoother.

    • RE: Google Sketchup Pro 7 is out

I haven't looked too deeply yet at the free version I down loaded, but must say that I am pleased that I can now navigate (orbit, zoom, etc.) within a fairly complex model of my home, and I don't get stuck in objects and walls, and the navigating is faster and smoother. Given that, DCs and the improved Layout (don't use it now but it seems like it will now be a valuable tool), I will definitely upgrade my Pro license.

    • RE: SU Animate Question

      Thanks Pilou,

I'm thinking about asking if the ability to hide groups sequentially could be added to SU Animate. That would make my life easier because I often need to move and hide things during an animation. I'll have toi think about how that might work logically.

      Thanks Pilou,

I'm not sure I understand what you are suggesting, but thinking about what you said, I came up with this solution. It is not simple to implement, but gets the job done.

This Skippy does what I want.

    • SU Animate Question

I'm creating a product animation and want to show a device cutting a circle in an object. I have been unable to figure out how to make it appear that the slot is being cut as the device rotates. The attached demo shows the device rotating and then fades to the final scene with the slot cut. The only thing I can come up with is to render the scene and then hand modify the individual frames. 😞 Any better suggestions? ❓

Demo video of what I'm doing.

This skippy was used to generate the video.

    • RE: Word of warning to developers

Formally, I worked for a large government agency that developed their software internally, with development taking not only at development centers, but also at individual sites (170+), at least that is how it worked a number of years ago, now there is not much development going on now. Any way, back when everybody was developing or at least customizing for local use, each site was given a short code 3-4 letters that made their variables and routines unique. Using initials or some such would work in this situation, but a list of initials would need to be maintained, so that duplicated would not occur. Then a coder would simply add their code as a prefix or sub-fix to their routines and variables. For example, I would write a routine called something-wrh.rb, with a variable x-wrh. It would be up to me not to step on my own code.
