This simple tool I find it extremely useful yet... too bad is not available trough Extension Warehause or Sketchucation Extension Store... it should be added, so it will be saved in the bundles...easy to reinstall and less likely to lose it.

      Cheers!

It seems this plugin is no longer maintained... the thing is it worked ok for me until short time ago (couldn't tell when), since then it doesn't respond to commands. I don't know if there is a new/better one to do the same thing, but if it is, would be great to know about.

      Thank you very much.

    • RE: [Plugin] SUClock - v3.1a - 02 Apr 24 - Tracking time in SU

By default, when choosing to save a new suclock file (start a new project), the save path opens in the same directory as the skp file. Would it be possible to set a default directory, where all suclock files are stored? Is a bit annoying to have to navigate every time on that location, for each newly started project. Having a "default path" declared would make it more convenient.

      Thanks

I want to announce that the login problem is gone. I didn't do anything, in fact I didn't even use sketchup since i posted this issue... just today I tried again and it logged in. Seems the problem was at trimble's end... and is "nice" how they keep silence all the time...

Can you log in by clicking on the Sign In button in the lower left corner of the SketchUp screen?

No, I cannot. In all three situations (bottom-left icon, 3dwarehouse, extension warehouse), the problems repeats in identical way: I get this welcoming-tutorial page, then I press "let's get started" and the next thing I see is a error.

I installed Su16, but I get the same issues there too.

On web I can login using any browser I like (chrome, Internet Explorer).

Indeed, I just checked, there are some windows updates that i haven't made... i will update windows and try again.

    • SketchUp 2015 Login Problems

This login problems appear whenever I want to log in (3D warehouse, Extensions Warehouse, or that small icon bottom left - google account).
I tried to follow some advice that i found online (flushing dns, clear cache, delete cookiejar.xml and session.dat, but nothing worked. Every time I click on "Ok, let's get started" i get the error.

When I try to login from the browser, everything works fine. So, the problem is inside SketchUp

      Any suggestions?

    • Any Stress Calculation method/plugin for SU nowadays?

      Hy,

This question was asked about three years ago ( http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15%26amp;t=53094 ) and I was thinking to raise it myself now... just hoping that in the past three years things may have changed.

I was wondering if there is any method to have static stress calculation for SketchUp. I would love to not have to learn FreeCad, just to be able to run a FEM test in it πŸ’š

    • 12" bicycle wheel hub dimensions?

      Hy,

I am working on a project and I need to draw a 12" bicycle wheel (complete) and the hub is a part that needs to be fairly accurate (spindle diameter, fitting distance, etc).
I was able to find some drawings with dimensions, but only for some indian standards, which I am not sure how universal they are.
I don't even know if 12" wheels have different hubs from the 16"/24" wheels that are most common.

If anyone has some data regarding this, would be really appreciated. I am looking for wheel with spokes, not plastic wheels.

      Thanks.

It would be cool if SubD worked on reverse.

Then we could reverse engineer some models... (again this is me talking without having had time to try subd)

Can you explain to me, why the first attempt fails. Why I should select one edge of triangulated face, that the second attemt must be fine.
      https://youtu.be/XiUtriWV_lo

The Convert triangulated Mesh to Quads function doesn't always succeed. It's hard, impossible, to reliable determine exactly how the mesh should be converted as it would require AI understanding of the mesh's topology. In your example it's easy for use humans to see what should be a quad, but not for a script. The script doesn't even take into account soft/smooth/hidden properties - it just sees a set of triangles.

In the case of your mesh there it looks like you have hard edges and then some soft+smooth edges between triangles pairs. Then you want to use the Convert SandboxTools Quads to QuadFace Tools quads instead. (left to the monkey icon). If those edges where hidden you you'd want to use the Blender Quads to QFT Quads function (the monkey icon).

Humm, i was in similar situations... means that either more documentation is needed to make it easier to understand when to use each function, or maybe if you would think appropriate, to make the quad-detection script to be more "intelligent", so it can take into consideration multiple parameters at the same time. For example not all Fredo Tools are good in creating or preserving quads... but they do smoothing. So, would be good to rely better on conversion.
Thank you! Keep up the good work ! πŸŽ‰

    • RE: [Plugin][$] RoundCorner - v3.4a - 31 Mar 24

Would it be possible to optimize the rounding to work better with quads? I noticed that it splits the quad triangulation, instead of generating new quads and the resulting faces are really weird looking (with diagonals going across two faces, as a result of the former quad triangulation)

      Cheers!

    • Why Manipulating Raw Geometry is so resource-demanding ??

I noticed for complex models that manipulating (move, rotate) raw geometry is really slow, compared to the same geometry made a component. Why is that? In the end, SU is still handling the same amount of geometry (vertices, faces, edges)... so why one would be so much resource-demanding compared to the other?

the quad at the corner needs the ngons removed. but i'd start with a different form and use creasing more.

try the form i quickly mocked up and iterate from there.

Thank you very much. May I ask you to upload it again for SU2015 ? - I am just stubborn and not willing to switch yet πŸ˜„

    • SUbD and quad workflow advices?

Hy, I just got "caught" by quad modelling πŸ’š πŸŽ‰ but as any new thing for me, it has plenty of challenges. Maybe here will find some answers. Maybe you had your own challenges and want to share results or to look for answers.

Anyway... I am trying to model something and I just feel that I can't solve the corners properly. See attached model. Dividing the surface properly is sometime such a big challenge for me.

      Thank you.
