      Added to list.

About one week ago i sent you an email with a report with my first experience after a consistent use... I don't know if you received it, because I got no response back... even the shrinking bug was mentioned in there.

But if someone can reliable identify the workflow to reproduce it then please share it here.

I am not sure if is 100% the cause, but i noticed it happening when I am scaling the uv-mesh in WrapR... seems that scaling the mesh will result in this model scaling-down. It should not alter the geometry, but only the way texture is projected on the mesh, but for some reason it does.

Also, there are sometimes unwelded (red) edges that appear after the model was saved and automatically reloaded.

Another issue is undoing the uv import from wrapr: if I imported the uv mapping on my model, but then i hit undo for any reason, i can't re import it or redo the operation.
When I need that, I do a trick: i rename the existing wrapr sketchup file (found in WrapR folder), then I export again to wrapr. Now a new skp file will be exported. I delete the new file and I rename the old one back.. in this way i can import the uvs that were previously used... is a messy workaround, prone to many mistakes and it should be solved in a better way (eg. to allow importing uvs from custom selected file - this way i can save several uv options and test them separately).

    • RE: Wrap-R for SketchUp

I put a quick tutorial together for the flower... it lacks some steps, but it could give some ideas of the workflow and the final result.

It also points some flaws/bugs of the software, which should be investigated...
It's a set of images in the archive along with the two .skp files (the one that i downloaded from the forum and the resulting one after uv-mapping).

The biggest concern I have about the scaling-down bug. It scaled the model insanely down, when the uv-mapping was loaded with WrapR.

      below are the errors:
      Error in mesh after reloading
Sized-down model and see the triangle with distorted UV

Full archive (tutorial screenshots, skp files)
      QuickTutorial.7z

      Hope it helps...

It's not a big deal to launch Previous version of SU untill upgrade! πŸ˜‰

Yes, that would be the idea eventually...but I was hoping on more support towards fixing the issue, rather than patching solutions πŸ˜„)
The developers won't be very motivated seeing that people are happy to run two, three versions of SU simultaneously, just to have some plugins work πŸ’š

      It's not yet a mature product ?

The fact that is so slow reacting under SU2017 when SubD is flying, makes me think is not. There must be something in its code that is either not sufficiently optimized, or the changes in SU2017 makes some parts of Artisan code to be obsolete... either ways, having to wait considerable time for a group with relatively simple geometry to close, is not what I would call a "mature product", especially when before was almost instant.

    • Artisan not maintained anymore?

Hy, I know that people moved to SubD for obvious reasons, but I was wondering if Artisan is still maintained. The reason is that I found it very slow under SU2017...
Is still a very useful tool especially for triangulated models imported from other software (eg. 3D Max) that need to be subdivided. I just had a such need with a model from Turbosquid (i had to use the low-poly version to redo the uv-mapping and then to subdivide it using Artisan, because SubD wouldn't work well on that model).

      Have you tried triangulating it?

Triangulate what? I need to IMPORT it in SketchUp. But once is in, with the textures on, the UV mapping is random, not properly imported.

    • Any way to properly import UV-mapped OBJ in SketchUp?

I need to import a model downloaded from turbosquid (i have it as 3ds and obj - both uv-mapped). I tried TIG's OBJ importer, but it won't keep the uv-mapping. The 3DS kept uv-mapping, but had some problems with import (parts of model missing).

      Any suggestion appreciated.
      Thanks.

    • Dynamic Component rotation issue

I tried to make an interactive rotating DC, but for some strange reason it seems to rotate around world axis, not local. The component is made in SU2017

Please check the arm attached. When clicked on it, should lift the arm up, then second click should position it back. Instead, first click rotates the arm 90 degrees on horizontal plane, then the next clicks will swing it up/down.

Interesting fact, when I enclose the arm component in another outer component and I align axes inside, it performs correctly. This leads me to think that the component revolves around its parent axis, not local. For sure I would need some clarifications here. Is it anything changed lately in SU?

      Thank you very much.

    • How to align all vertices to a plane (eg. Green-Blue) ?

Hy, I am trying to find a way (eg. plugin that could ease the task) to align all selected vertices to one of the three planes formed by the axes. I have Vertex Tools and indeed it does "planar", but the plane is calculated I believe as the average (or most probable) plane based on selected vertices.
The plane resulted was very close to Green-Blue plane, but not quite, which causes too many problems due too small misalignments.

Please, in case you know a tool that could align a set of selected edges/vertices to a defined plane, would be great.
      Thanks.

boat model was made for a friend who printed it. Not the best printing quality, but it gets improved.

But, the best part is that it does float on the right side πŸ’š !

      Please help!

Solved - I deleted the REG entry. Nonetheless, should address the issue in a better manner (if path not found, to prompt for a new path).

      Cheers!

This is correct. SketchUp's settings are written to the currently loaded user (HKCU/Software) hive of the registry. So user "Jane"'s settings cannot affect user "Dick"'s settings.

      Try it.

      I will try. Thank you.
But just beware, even if Jane's settings can't affect Dick's, Dick can affect Jane's settings... because he's a dick... πŸ’š

The easiest way that I use is to create a new "Test" user account, and log onto that account for testing. This "Test" user then does not make changes to my normal user account. (SketchUp keeps a separate set of registry values, for each user, in each different user's registry hive.)

So, you say that SketchUp keeps totally separate settings for each system account? Nothing gets mixed-up (plugins, toolbars, settings) ?

    • RE: Any way to install two copies of SU (same version)?

Thank you very much to all of you! Great options, great ideas!

I tried some of them and until now the results are promising... but I still have a problem that is nasty actually:
I tried on SU2017 and when pointed to a directory without plugins it loaded only with the toolbars that it had from the built-in tools. But - and now starts to be messy - when I returned it to the folder where all my plugins are, I got a toolbar mess...

I believe a way to save the toolbar positions and restore them would be ideal, not only for my current situation, but also for Backup/Restore. We have the bundles in Extension Store, which saves a lot of time, but still arranging toolbars is left to the user (yes, this depends on resolution, available plugins, etc), but considering the same display resolution and the full set in the bundle, would speed-up the restore process.

    • Any way to install two copies of SU (same version)?

I am wondering if is any way to (force?) install two copies of same sketchup version on a machine...
the reason would be to keep a light version for testing stuff (ruby, etc) and the other one to be the "usual" sketchup that has all the plugins and things that I am using for modelling.

I know that I can run different versions of SU on the same machine, but the reason why I want a second installation for the same SU would be speed - to avoid loading all the plugins that the "usual" version would load.

I would welcome other options too, like a way of starting SU without the plugins (to have a alternate location, from where I only load the tested plugin)...

      Thanks.
