If my memory serves....there may be a tick box in the Nvidia control panel that allows "the application" to decide settings (SU).

If so......give that a try.

You may be able to use section cut(s) to demonstrate an assembly sequence.

Remember, you can have more than one active cut per scene.(show sections in attahced model for example)

Not knowing the size of your current model........could you bring your model "into" the larger model you are curently trying to import........and "save as"?

You most likely will be better served by placing a guide at what would be the center of a door hinge pin.

You can use the protractor to do so.....assuming you are familiar with how to manipulate & "lock" the protractor tool.

Once you have the guide placed you can use the rotate tool to pivot/swing the door as you desire.

I have been very "brief" with above description........if you could upload the model I am certain you will have no shortage of helpful tips/illustrations on more than one way.

that's exactly what i do. but once i select my desired scale for the viewport (with scenes done in SU). it becomes "modified"

Paolo..........are you "single clicking" (just selecting) the viewport.........or "double clicking" the viewport.

Single click should result in non-modified scene.

If you "paint with default"......ford-fairlane-victoria-1956.jpg......will be the default.

I cannot explain why........though the model default is not "ford-fairlane-victoria-1956.jpg"

As others have stated a better method most likely would be SU output to another program.
I have used Photoshop Premiere Elements with good results.

But, maybe just using a blank scene to sorta....fade/transition....maybe even using fog to help.

Well how about that.......no option on MAC to turn off thumbnail redef.

Only other suggestion I have is try facing the sky (not you...SU view) on save and see if it saves quickly.
This would be almost equivalent of turning off thumbnail redefine............

Look for an Icon (blue circle with n i in the center)...this is model info Icon.

Or....Window...Model info....File....there you will see the thumbnail tick box.

Hope it is the same on a MAC

A couple of things to try:

A.)System preferences.....general....auto save (either temporarily disable or increase the time)

B.)Model info....file....redefine thumbnail on save (un-tick and see if that helps)

I would probably try B first as I think your auto save kicks in and the redefine of the thumbnail is what may be causing the bog down.
You can of course always go back to your preferred setings.

I will let others comment about image management (not my strong smoot)

I can see this tablet being very useful in any number of ways....but curious as to cost $.

As a residential builder I could (one man) field layout/ck:
Better board placement & elevations.....& dbl ck prior to conc. pour.
Do same for walks/drives/landscape plantings etc........really just place/verify any points of importance from SU/CAD.

Can't seem to find a $ on the net.......probably means $10k+ US.

Worth mentioning...........they are typically "assembled" cold........and then held over an open flame (camp fire) or any BBQ...propane/charcoal..............or when handy.........under....an oxy/acetylene torch.

Super,
1st, try purging the Sketchup file you have been dealt.

Window.....Model Info.....Statistics.....Purge Unused.

At minimum, this should improve you SU model experience.........please try this and report back.

(SU Pro)File>>>>Export>>>>>2D Graphic>>>>>>.eps (options)

Open image editor>>>>Open .eps file........Rasterize Format(creates transparent background)........save as .png

I know you Mac users have been able to export transparent background from SU for some time now....but this is a bit of a revelation for MSW folks if new.

Not sure I follow, if all scenes are set per the 15 options..........updating the model in LO should allay all concerns.

yes....you would have to manually update(move).......though you could draw reference lines/guides "on every page" layer to assist.

Curious what error message you get when trying to save an image. (is it something like "fails to recognise the drive")
I ask because I have a 1tb Seagate Goflex ext. drive I purchased of October 2011 to which I have no problem with saving a Win7 drive image.

I purchased another 1tb Seagate Goflex ext. (identical packaging to first ext. drive) drive in March 2012 to which I cannot save a Win7 drive image....I get an error that says something like "failed to recognise the drive".

So I am guessing the reporting you speak of occurs on my first drive but not the second...........bummer.......because I specifically purchased the second drive for saving drive images.

Dave.........how do you know it's the wind blowing.......could be the cupola going 100mph.

Also, I notice in SU........selecting the shadow string fix does not require a style update (even so I did update the style(s))

Selecting shadow string fix in SU corrects shadows in SU only. (see attached)

Also, shadow strings present in exported .pdf's.

Anyone else concur?
