Unfortunately I'm not at liberty to share the model.
No worries, thought that might be the case.

I don't know much more about the "old head". He's a member of one of the woodworking forums I participate on and he seems to have a vice for shop made vises. The screw is typically the most expensive part but he came up with the idea of using these cheap dumbbell handles which work quite well. He also buys inexpensive HDPE cutting boards to use for the bearings, shown in white. Another cool trick that he does is to drill and tap the ends of the brass pins so a small machine screw can be inserted to use as a handle to extract the pin if he wants to disassemble the thing.
Great stuff, are you able to share the model?
If so I might adapt it for metric and me, and share of course. Although I s'pose I could do it the hard way.... -
RE: A Moxon-Style Vise
You are both right about Elm, nasty and unpredictable to work with and tough as old boots. It rewards you in the end but its a battle. I used it in Pommieland many years ago.
Of course, now, Dutch Elm disease ruining city landscapes.
And funnily enuf: on the news tonite, A lady walking down one of our leafy Melbourne boulevards today, got fatally crushed by a hundred year old healthy Elm. (Theres more to this). Is this a Hijack? Never sure.
Anyway, I love the portable Leg Vise. I want one. Suits my lifestle. But goes on the project list about 90 down. And the story, Dave, sounds intriguing. The 'Old head'. More please.

Dave you did a great job lining up the edge and face textures
So he did, well spotted Joe. The short grain on the handle is a bit of a worry tho'

RE: SU 2019 slow startup
I am finding SU slow to load as well, too many plugins, I suspect.
I am in the habit of always having SU open, even if just a blank file. -

Google Earth licencing no longer supports images being grabbed from it for use in SketchUp (amongst others).
Hi JuJu, Am I misunderstanding? From within SketchUp you can still grab locations and terrain...File/Geo-location/Add location. Isn't that what the OP wanted?

RE: Twilight - Invisible but cast shadow?
Possibly render with the 'Sun' off. And use emitters in the doors and windows. (In Twilight anyway).
-
RE: [Plugin] LookAt
This looks like it could be very useful for setting up lights in Twilight Render. It can be a pain re-pointing lights when looking for a better lighting angle. Thanks.

RE: A Moxon-Style Vise
/quote] Actually, it is used for a couple of hold down clamps. The fellow who designed it uses one to hold a saddle square (he made a wooden one for it today) a.[/quote] Whoops, broke the code:)
Did he make a saddle square for his Moxin. Or a wooden hold down?
Might have to ask him for a pic?
No hurry. -
RE: A Moxon-Style Vise
Hi Dave. I have been thinking of making one of these.
The function of the track on the front chop is not obvious to me. -
RE: Sketchup for woodworking tools
I would suggest you rename your post "Plugin request, woodworking".

RE: A few thoughts about the future of this planet
Not usual lunatic fringe at all. Just smart, informed, cashed up realists.
Of course there would profiteers, but I don't get the impression that that's a big deal.
Will research...BTW. The 'Middle Kingdom' already has big and sometimes important chunks of OZ.

RE: A few thoughts about the future of this planet
Yes land, lots of it. I think the gov is doing something about it.

RE: A few thoughts about the future of this planet
So. Two years to the month.
The USA has a climate denier as a Pres.
Meanwhile the US Military is seeking urgent funds to get out of the coming tide.
And too many corporations to mention are setting up for changing conditions. My country, Australia, has the highest emissions per bod on the planet.
We nearly got the gov we needed. Instead we got the gov we deserved.
So Oz wont be helping any time soon.If you could all somehow energize everyone in your community to this reality, I am sure a lot of people would get it, and into it.
And it has to happen quickly, because IMHO most of us have about (?) years before your power goes out.
Or do you believe in the 'BladeRunner' type world existence?
Did you know that (smart/rich) people have been buying up big in NZ? -
RE: New sub-forum? Solar, wind, etc.?
Juju, you are drinking better wine than mine.

RE: New sub-forum? Solar, wind, etc.?
BUMP.
Tell me if I'm being a dick here, please. -
New sub-forum? Solar, wind, etc.?
I am just getting into my second year of being fully off grid, and I will tell you, it is a journey.
And I would love to connect with some real off-griddies for the sharing of stuff.I have looked at, (and joined), half a dozen off-grid forums in the last year. But they are strangers out of nowhere and often wrong. Don't get me started on Farcebook!
I do appreciate that forums that try to cover too much ground might lose their focus. But I think this one might be a good fit.
And I know and trust you people...
...So Mods? reckon a subforum in the corner bar might work?
About Off-Grid only, please.Might be room for 'Sustainable' down the track)?

RE: Notifications-not.
Seems not.
I am getting notifications now, I think. Perhaps there's some sort of entropy... If one doesn't visit the site for a while? Perhaps I cleaned up my browser of cookies etc?Not a biggie tho Gabor. Thanks.
Baz.
PS: The site has always been very slow to load, and now I on a data diet, it takes for ever.
Do you have anyway to reduce the sites data size?
For example the Skalp banner ad I am looking at now, the image alone is 279.19 KB (285,888 bytes). Cos its a GIF. Any options on the site to turn em' off?
