Hi Dave. I have been thinking of making one of these.
The function of the track on the front chop is not obvious to me.

Not usual lunatic fringe at all. Just smart, informed, cashed up realists.
Of course there would profiteers, but I don't get the impression that that's a big deal.
      Will research...

BTW. The 'Middle Kingdom' already has big and sometimes important chunks of OZ.

    • RE: A few thoughts about the future of this planet

So. Two years to the month.

The USA has a climate denier as a Pres.
Meanwhile the US Military is seeking urgent funds to get out of the coming tide.
And too many corporations to mention are setting up for changing conditions.

My country, Australia, has the highest emissions per bod on the planet.
We nearly got the gov we needed. Instead we got the gov we deserved.
So Oz wont be helping any time soon.

If you could all somehow energize everyone in your community to this reality, I am sure a lot of people would get it, and into it.

And it has to happen quickly, because IMHO most of us have about (?) years before your power goes out.

Or do you believe in the 'BladeRunner' type world existence?
Did you know that (smart/rich) people have been buying up big in NZ?

    • New sub-forum? Solar, wind, etc.?

I am just getting into my second year of being fully off grid, and I will tell you, it is a journey.
And I would love to connect with some real off-griddies for the sharing of stuff.

I have looked at, (and joined), half a dozen off-grid forums in the last year. But they are strangers out of nowhere and often wrong. Don't get me started on Farcebook!

I do appreciate that forums that try to cover too much ground might lose their focus. But I think this one might be a good fit.

And I know and trust you people...

...So Mods? reckon a subforum in the corner bar might work?
      About Off-Grid only, please.

Might be room for 'Sustainable' down the track)?

      Seems not.
I am getting notifications now, I think. Perhaps there's some sort of entropy... If one doesn't visit the site for a while? Perhaps I cleaned up my browser of cookies etc?

Not a biggie tho Gabor. Thanks.
      Baz.
PS: The site has always been very slow to load, and now I on a data diet, it takes for ever.
Do you have anyway to reduce the sites data size?
For example the Skalp banner ad I am looking at now, the image alone is 279.19 KB (285,888 bytes). Cos its a GIF. Any options on the site to turn em' off?

I'm glad to see that like the rest of us from down here you have the extinguisher in the right place.
The chances of fire in the kitchen and bedroom are basically the same.

Box me old dear, I have read this 4 times now and still she make no sense.

In the interests of good bookkeeping, I submit the following:

Number of Kitchen fires that I have either experienced or have trusted hearsay: 7 in last 30 years.
Number of Bedroom fires that I have either experienced or have trusted hearsay: 0 in last 30 years.

Damn fine gin and lime, this.

That's wonderful! Hope you are enjoying your new place! Is it quiet around there?

I am loving it, except when I'm not.

Which is mostly about my off grid setup. PV, Inverter/Chargers, Batteries, (48V, 4x200Ah batts. 6 x 270W PV).
      Generators, RANT over.

And yes, it is very quiet. So quiet that I sometimes hear the airbrakes on the Mudland Hwy, bout 8 klms west away.

But then there's the maggies that hit the roof hard bout dawn to practice their carrier landings. They then sit around and squack about it.

And dont get me started about deer coughing at me.

Looking South about 3 months ago, pretty bloody dry. (Alt: 125m AGL. 800mtr MSL).

Ok, traced in LO and got a good result. Have to consider this a workaround tho'. And a bit of a pain as easy to miss endpoints in LO. (No option to toggle endpoints)

      Thanks for the help Dave.

The break didnt appear in the previous file with the segmented curves. Only in the second iteration with proper arcs. I don't have any experience drawing in LO. Only ever use it for dimensions and presentation.
I am finding a few other things with this latest release, hardly enough to notice, but things not acting as they used to. One example: Cant get the start of a line, circle etc to infer to a construction point in Top view, but orbit the view a little and bingo.

No, second shot is a DXF export from SU, only opened in Layout. Also checked it in the Autocad online viewer.

Dave, I had already redrawn before your trace suggestion.
But curiously, even though I now have smooth arcs they fail to join up in the DXF.
However the SU model had no gaps and perfectly closed faces...
      I'm stumped...
