    • Printing to scale?

Trying to print to scale in layout 3.0... with no luck so far ๐Ÿ˜ฎ(
Have been setting the scale in the Sketchup model box, to 1/4" = 1 ft, but it won't print to scale.

Confused somewhat, on reading the maunual (2.0), page 115 to create custom scale??

So, how does one set this up, to get an accurate print out to scale?

      I'm flummoxed, please help :O)

    • How to get a tiled Image for sketchup texture

Can any one do this for me??.... failing that, any directions on how to get a tilled image of the attached tile image is appreciated.

The actual tiles are about 4" long by 1" wide. That's each segment of the tile

I downloaded Gimp 2 to see if that could help but was lost in the manual at page one.

Tried in paint too, but can't seem to get rid of the white bits, nor when making a new texture in Sketchup paintbucket.

Can some one kindly provide some guidance on how 2 bend something, using the radial bender on single plane and angle.

I think that is the right one to accomplish what I need, but have been getting weird results as I haven't a clue how to do this :O)

The attached model has the water slide and I need to know how to bend the slide near the Construction line ( 5 ft 3") which is the height needed at that end of the water slide, leaving the other end where it is.

      Hope that makes sense.Slide Dolphin2.skp

Thanks Jim for saving me some time. That worked real quick - once I entered each group or component- two clicks and all moved to another layer

I knew there had to be a fast way. Sketucation once more to my rescue :O)

I will have a look at Thomthom's selection tools too- Thanks for the tip Jeff.

    • Getting rid of text and dimensions

Working on someone else's model which has hundred of dimensions and text, all unfortunately on layer0.

I need to get rid of all of them. Is there a fast way to select them all and put them on another layer. It's a PITA to do it one by one.

Hoping there is a fast simple way :O)

      Thanks as always

Mac1 Thanks again for your efforts, apologies for delay in reply but middle daughter had an appendectomy a few days and now doing fine :O)
I will look closely at the both models to learn a bit more. However i did redo the entire model. It only takes ten minutes to create the mass of the building
I have attached a new model with refinements to get it closer to actual building (designed By Ponikvar & Associates)

Funny how one can think one knows stuff in sketchup, only to find there's plenty still to learn and bad habits to remove.

One problem i need clarification on is setting the axes. Usually this is aligned to the left hand sideaxes pic.JPG but as shown it is appearing on the right hand side. I have moved it to the left, but am wondering why it is aligning to the right hand side.

Also I made new window door components but am having a tough time getting them to fit onto the wallsUSF window door combo.JPGUSF Base Bldg New v2.skp

I'll keep on keeping on, but all advice is much appreciated.

I hardly ever mess with the axes settings, but have finally had a need to start using this and often found I would inadvertently set the blue axes downwards rather than up.

Was watching a tutorial this morning, and found that if one triple clicks (after setting the red axis) it is automatically done correctly for you..... It was a Duhh !!! moment for me.

    • RE: Need help with several questions: windows on curved surfaces

Mac1, thank you sooo much for taking some time to look at this. It is much appreciated.

Your comment on the "single plane ref" didn't make sense to me when I read it last night, but now, having mulled it over, it has finally sunk in, and makes perfect sense. Thanks, again, for clearing that up for me โ˜€

I only had a scan of the building footprint to go on and tracing over those curves was done without any foresight, or clear understanding of what I'd have to do later with the windows.

I have started a new model taking into consideration the segments I will need in each arc to make the windows fit properly... Its kinda hit or miss and a guesstimate at best, as I only have a few pictures of the building to go on, but think that now, I'll be able to accomplish this much better.

The "door/ window combo" component was originally made with tools on surface as well as with joint push pull and I'm kind of new to using both. This time round, I'll draft as much as possible on a flat surface and then try drape it as well use Shape bender as an alternative to make those window/door components work.

I'll keep on keeping on ... Thanks... One more time :O)

    • Need help with several questions: windows on curved surfaces

Attached is a model I have been working on and having problems making window components as most of the walls are curved.

Usually, when making a window component I make it right after selecting the face, This works but for some reason on curved surfaces I am having an issue.

I have also tried to explode the component and whilst still highlighted, make it a component again with glue to any or vertical. However, when I move it down, it does not cut into the face. Also, if I take it out of the component browser it does not orient itself in the way I expect it too.

Can some one kindly take the time to look at the model and set me straight..... Thanks :O)

Also I have been trying to use Chris Fulmer's wonderful Bender plug-in to make the right hand side window and door component bend to the shape of the wall. I know how to use the plug-in, ( or at least i think i do ) but perhaps due the line work I made the model with, I can't get it to bend into the shape of the curved wall.

Should I be ensuring the curved wall line is exactly the same length as the component? I have been doing that, but not sure how to get the line set up. Do I divide it into segments or draw additional lines perpedicular to the edge and then remove them< or what? Please refer to the model where it is shown.

Lastly, can someone tell me why the tree in the native SU render has a very see through appearance whilst the twilight render has a full looking tree. How do I get the large sized grouping of green trees -in the background -to appear full when using SU renders?USF 521 BOSF ES 2.jpgUSF 521 BOSF ER 2.jpgUSF 521 Bldg.skp

Sorry for the pic size Tinypic wouldn't let me upload these for some reason...something I'm doing wrong. Just like in my model :O)

      Thanks again for any answers.

    • RE: Why is Sketchup saving two copies of a file?

Ok now I get it. It was a backup file. I had always thought the back up file was the Autosave one, and never checked the difference between the two.

You learn something every day and on Sketucation I learn several things each and every day....

    • RE: Why is Sketchup saving two copies of a file?

Thanks Gaeius for the reply :O)
Nope, it sometimes saves a second copy even if I have no bug-splat. It is NOT just an auto save file, but a copy with the same name, made when I save the model. This happens sometimes, even when there has been no bug-splat... and it only happens when I work in this model... The autosave files that have been made when a splat happens are saved with a new name once opened.....and then, I get 2 copies???

Maybe I just need to start from the beginning again, as it seems something is carried over from the old files into the new one, creating the bugs-splat and the repeat copy of the file...I'm bad about using the bugsplat report- never done it...maybe now is a good time to start :O)

I'll carry on with the new model... but if anyone has come across this I'd love to know.... that its not just me, my file, or my computer ๐Ÿ’š

    • Why is Sketchup saving two copies of a file?

I have been having a somewhat frustrating time with a model that continuously bug-splats on me, most likely due to it having 10 million faces and 39 million edges :O)

After the bug-splats occurred, whenever I saved this file, sometimes it would save two copies of the exact same file.
Other files don't do this.I've done test with new files and no problems. I started all over again with a new file, copied some of the line work from the problem/duplicating file, saved it under a new name.....and I get two copies of the file. :O(...Why I have no idea ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Is there something wrong with my computer? and If so, how do I check/correct it? Could rubies be the culprit? Or does anyone have previous experience with this problem.

Thanks for any answers or suggestions to remedy this

There's no control that I can find to STOP the components from rotating randomly... can anyone correct me? I want all my Ivy leaves to basically be oriented the same way... only rotate slightly one direction or the other, like actual ivy leaves. I can not get Fur plugin to behave this way.

Neither can I and I would love the pluginPlanting test #2.skp to be able to do this!!!.... Can it ?

Ive been trying for the past day to populate a simple layout with equally spaced sprays of slightly rotated, evenly spaced plantings.... no luck so far (see attached file)....but luck, I'm sure, has little to do with it :O)

WOW... That clears up a lot for me too :O)

I've been having problems when using Twilight as many faces I'd textured, didn't render with the texture I had applied. I had been reversing the faces and re applying the texture to get the renders to work.

So, let me get this right..... if I simply orient faces, it will do this for all my reversed faces? all in one go??
