If you need ortho dimensions in layout then the view needs you to click the layout Ortho button to "on" otherwise it will interpret the view as 3D. It will also then let you use the dimension autoscale function correctly when you set the view scale.

RE: Is there a Plugin to see and change properties of an object
Oh dear, some people just don't see it do they? SU is faster and more practical because it isn't overloaded with all those niceties of 3DMax and Solidworks...

RE: My first couple of real layout drawings
Nicely presented. The trickiest part of layout is making sure you connect with the right part of a curved surface, looks like you solved it?

RE: DC: A nightmare!!!
You subject title should give you a clue! Save your time unless you have plenty spare to learn the complexities of DCs. I think last time this was discussed there was a general view that they are a nice idea but not fit for purpose. Treat yourself to a nice collection of individual predefined components which you can adjust with Fredo's Scale plugin.

RE: What's this?
Nice idea Mike, I'm working on some compact living projects and it's the sort of solution the end user might like. Obviously this is probably personal preference but if you can sit on a bar stool at a breakfast bar then why do you need to provide a back support.
I'd agree with TIG the table lift needs some work maybe an office chair type gas strut.

RE: Trimble Version
LOL that was quick Marian, and with reflections! Now I'm going to feel guilty if I don't use it.

RE: [Poll] What do you think of the new SketchUp logo designs ?
It's a clever play on 3D and 2D if a little over simplistic but I hate the red, please can we have it in Trimble blue. At least with the new icons I am more likely to click the right one, I was always "blinded" by the pencil in the old icons when clicking in a hurry.

RE: Layout wishlist
The Scrapbook is a great place for storing your styles and objects which you can either sample or drag & drop. I didn't realise how valuable they can be to the workflow until I started using them.

I placed it in the center edge of the door but the top and bottom do not swing with it?
That reads like you missed including them in the group, which may be why they aren't swinging with the rest of the door?

RE: DWG won't import into Sketchup Pro V8
Have you tried a different cad file and what are your origin co-ordinates? I believe SU falls over if the DWG is too far away from 0,0.

RE: SU 9 Wishlist
Interesting that you have to drag up a two year old thread from when SU was under Google to prejudge Trimble's development plans which are as yet unknown! If SU is holding you back go buy something else that does the job.

RE: SU 9 Wishlist
mi wish: That SU doesn't become bloatware because some people don't get it's lean efficiency. If I wanted it to perform like AutoBad, ArchiCAD, Solidworks or 3D Studio that is what I would have bought not come here b*tchin about it not doing the same job.

RE: 2 segments leader
I only go to the scrapbook once Dave to set the line tool parameters with the style sampling tool. After that it's a simple process of click & drag to create the curve tangent from the text box and then double click at the end point. No editing required; plus you can add extra points if you need to get around those bits of the drawing you need to keep clear.
And for the OP the process would work just the same but just click (don't drag) so you get straight line segments.

RE: 2 segments leader
Learn something new every day. Not sure with the line edit if that's a duh or a wow!
I still prefer my workflow for label creation as I hate right aligned multi-line text which I would end up having to "correct" as well as editing every arrow. It would also be a lot easier if the sampling process picked up the line and text format at the same time but that may require a new entity type in the core program.

RE: 2 segments leader
I'm quite happy typing my notes as a text box and then from my scrap book sampling my preferred arrow settings and then creating nice flowing spline arrows. Much nicer than straight lines.

RE: Is anyone following the Apple v Samsung battle?
I'm sure I read recently that Samsung are opening up a manufacturing plant in the US allegedly to spread their natural disaster risk and also to ease access to certain metals for manufacture. In light of the ruling there might also be a line that they wish to gain favour as a major employer in the US?
As Samsung is the supplier of some crucial components in the i-series I don't quite get the adversarial positioning of Apple, I would have thought they both needed to be best of friends?
Finally from a personal perspective I'm not a fan of Apple due to my experience of the iplayer and itunes where the programs overrode my preferred settings without asking. I was contemplating an iPhone, but in light of their continued arrogance it looks like Samsung would be my preferred choice and the Galaxy seems to be getting the better reviews.

RE: Some of my Latest, Shipping Containers
We are on the same page Paul, I can't see how ripping a box apart and strengthening it is any more efficient than a purpose made unit. If the SC remains primarily intact then that makes sense. This design aspect could maybe do with its own thread given the OP was really a CGI issue!

RE: Intersecting Pipes/Tubes?
I see you have a solution and you have the pro version. You could also have done this by creating a tube, dragging copies into place, size them and then use the solid tools to create the intersections or even use the old school method of intersect with model and clean up.
Just saying as there seems to be a trend around here to look for plugin solutions before thinking about using the native SU tools.
