Thanks Gai - that is it. However I can't seem to find the link to the download [Later] AHA - I found the download up at the top of the page: Web Exporter And the other tricky thing is that the plugin itself is called swivelButtonPlugin.rb

@unknownuser said: The workaround for renderers that don't recognize 2pt perspective is to make sure that your camera is pointed in a direction parallel to the ground plane. You can do this within sketchup by making two vertical lines of the same height (say 5'5" for example), picking the Position Camera button from the toolbar, clicking the top of one of the lines to pick your camera location and dragging your mouse to the top of the other line before letting go of the mouse button to set the direction you want your camera to face. I use this within Maxwell Render (which doesn't do 2-pt perspectives) with almost all of my arch-viz work. Maxwell also has a Shift Lens parameter which essentially shifts your lens up or down within that frame of reference as doing a 2pt at eye level will often cut off the top of your building and almost always show too much foreground. It shifts the lens up to correct that (many real architectural photographers use a shift/tilt lens for the same purpose) -brodie thanks for the tip Brodie, if you check out the list of upcoming features for TW: @unknownuser said: 2 - All new Twilight "Position Scene's View Tool" , allows you to previsualize the precise window showing your precise rendering. allows you to click any point in your view as your new focal point for driving the DOF focal point. allows you to orbit your view around a selected point in your scene... instead of around some nebulous 'point' it seems that they're fixing the 2pt. problem as we speak and adding some awsome new camera tools too!! BTW, i've edited my previous posts, it seems that i put twilight.com instead of http://www.twilightrender.com sorry if i misguided anyone to some silly vampire site.

No, they are not at all placed in angle - here is a "real ortho" (parallel projection) view... I am (of course) not happy with some of the procedural textures yet... This model is now a sample model for the ArielVision rendering package. http://www.renderplus.com/arielvision/wk/ArielVision_Sample_Models.htm [image: 500px-Vanity.jpg] The mirror, and other items in the image which show highlights or reflections were made reflective by right-clicking on the material in SketchUp, and selecting a default reflection: [image: Material_Defaults.jpg] And some lights were placed on the ceiling. (Some small lights were also placed inside of the candles) ArielVision then create a Photorealistic image by processing all the effects of lights and reflection and creating a rendered image.

@gaieus said: Hi Al (and Rich), I don't think 3D PDF would become outdated soon. PDF is one of the most cross-platform and even cross-browser format (when embedded), can be easily sent by email or carried on a small drive since you can (almost) make sure that wherever you go and take (send) it, the other end will be able to see it. thanks for the comments Gai. PDF will probably survive, of course. But they have replaced the U3D format we use with a proprietary format. However, we suspect they will always have to display U3D, because otherwise legacy PDF files would stop working. We struggle with U3D because it never really worked properly. But Rich has made some improvements this past month and we will continue working with it. I think will will add an embedded html page creator to the existing plugin - using PDF first. The advantage it that it will be fairly easy for people to modify the page we create for their own needs. (It is much easier to modify a web page than to create one from scratch). This should work pretty well with embedded PDF and PDF is well supported. Also, we never learned as much about Flash as we should have. Perhaps a Flash/Collada option would work as an option. The O3D/Collada route is interesting, if Google gets behind O3D. Unfortunately, my experience is that Google often releases an interesting software application - usually in Beta mode - and then never decides to continue it. (Witness Google Desktop). On the other hand, if they do get excited about something they throw a lot into it - (e.g. YouTube). We are hoping they see a future for O3D and want to go comewhere with it.

We fixed this and posted a new beta version of RPS 3D PDF. The 3D models are also to scale now, so the measurement tool in Acrobat works correctly. The new beta version, IJ02, can be downloaded from our downloads page: http://www.renderplus.com/php/download_links.php

@gaieus said: I like this second one big time. Cool model of course (which is very needed with clay renders as you cannot "fake" details with textures) The second image was from Chris's tutorial. I presume it was made using 3DS, but there was no specific mention of the rendering. The first image is one of my "typical" examples of how to use the technology. It is a 3D warehouse model. It is supposed to "inspire" you to think of how the technology could be used. I think we'll have to work harder to find good models to demonstrate technology. [Edit: since writing this post, the image in the first post has been replaced by a better clay rendering example]

Oops! Model.modified? might have been a good idea. I'll try this: # check before removing current file Sketchup.file_new model = Sketchup.active_model if (model.modified?) do_error("Model not cleared - cancel") return end#if

I've used my SelectionMemory script to do the opposite - select edges outside the space I was in. Specifically, I would group a profile shape, select and "memorize" the edges to be used for FollowMe, then go inside the profile's group and "recall" the edges, then start the FollowMe tool and click on the profile face. It prevents the extruded shape from reacting to the edges of the path - very handy in some cases.
