I want to create a list of component parts for an application within Sketchup. I then want to be able to send a template Sketchup file to clients so that they can generate their own layouts based on the kit of parts that are within the component library. When my clients send their proposed layouts back to me I wish to be then able to generate a list of the components contained in the 3D model. Please can you clarify the following:

"Is this something that can be achieved with RpReports?"

This is precisely what RpReports was designed for.

"Do my clients need to have RpReports on their computers or can I just open the model that they send to me and then run the report on the file to generate the list of components?"

If your clients have the RpReports client version, then they can generate their own reports. Otherwise they can send you the model and you can generate the report for them.

The attributes can be stored in the component definition files, so the clients can place the components without using RpReports. However, if you want the client to be able to modify some attributes (e.g. add a comment, code, or other information), then they will need RpReports to change the attributes.

"Which versions of SketchUp is RpReports compatible with?"

RpReports will work with SketchUp 6 or 7 - Windows only - free or Pro.

"Once a model has been successfully set up and tested, is it possible to load the components up onto a website so that clients can generate a layout online and submit a proposal via the web rather than by sending a file by email?"

You can store the attributes in the component definition .SKP files, and the clients can download just the .SKP files from the web to create the model. I am not aware of any way to create a SketchUp model entire on-line (without using SketchUp)

RpReports does have some SQL capabilities, which would allow the client to generate the report and upload it to a SQL database on your server. But email will probably be much easier.
