If any plugin wizard is bored without nothing to do, importing really large terrain areas (or automatically importing several small detailed areas) is a feature still missing on Sketchup.

RE: Disappearing geometry when using Vray 1.6 Mac Beta
yes, in my case, it was only in the render window that geometry disappeared, never in the model / sketchup file.

RE: Disappearing geometry when using Vray 1.6 Mac Beta
I´ve got the same bug on the PC version. No precise steps on how that happened. It was quite random and it happened in different models. Closing Sketchup and opening the scene again SOMETIMES corrected it all. Sometimes it corrected only a few faces reappearing, sometimes it still had the same problem.
Sometimes entire groups disappeared. Sometimes PARTS of groups disappeared. Sometimes almost the entire models. Sometimes, exploding the model corrected it, sometimes, only a part of it, sometimes, did not correct nothing at all.
edit: Oh, I am sorry. Its not the same bug. My geometry never disappeared in the model itself, only in the render! It was like if VRAY simply did not recognized/read thousands of faces in the Sketchup model. I uninstalled the beta then.

RE: Vray 1.6 open beta
I was going to apply, and then I saw the little warning on the vray site: Windows 32 bits only.

Only CPU for now.
so its not THAT real time I guess
does the RT window obeys the current renderer parameters (like for example IRMap+LightCache) in low settings or does it have its own render engine? (if it uses its own engine, how to know the final render using the usual engines will look the same?)

RE: New DWG/DWF importers and exporters for SketchUp
eh, it doesnt have any options... it didnt separate the imported DWG in layers, anything... imported a single 3D model, while in autocad there is the 3D model plus several 2D drawings, which failed to be imported into Sketchup.

RE: Plugin for importing large GE terrain areas into Sketchup?
actually, after my requests, some interesting plugins were created that really helped me with my project. Too bad the threads arent linked...
but check here
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=40627&hilit=terrain+meshhere are SdMitch plugins... check the Terrain Tools plugin, which is basically his two terrain plugins plus an extra function.

From Sketchup to Skyrim?
Any other gamer here?
I decided to give a try with the Skyrim Creation Kit, and I was baffled when I discovered EVERY SINGLE medieval house in Skyrim is an entire mesh instead of being modular, meaning that if you plan to create a new village/city, all the houses will repeat from the ones already existing in Skyrim).
As a long time fan of the Elder Scrolls series, I still worship Daggerfall, where you had truly immense world to explore (the same area as Spain... while Skyrim and Oblivion are about 16 sq kilometers each) and hundreds of cities, and those cities were REALLY WORTHY of the word "city".
Thus I put in my mind the objective to create a medieval city tileset to leave available as a resource for Skyrim modders, so they can create exquisite medieval buildings... and also, that it will be low poly enough that you can have big cities, while keeping the good looks.
Would anyone here be interested in helping?
It seems the Creation Kit can import .OBJ files...

RE: Whats a good plugin to create windows in buildings?

Pella and Marvin have some dynamic windows (and doors) which have different configurations etc. and may be useful depending on the types of windows you're trying to create.
these are users here at the forum? Or at 3D Warehouse?

Whats a good plugin to create windows in buildings?
Windows, glass curtains, etc?
I realize I lose a lot of time with windows in Sketchup. Because I create the window frame as one group. Then each window sliding pane is another group. And inside those, are the window glass panes.
When I copy a window to another part of the house, if the size is a bit different, I must enter each window group to change the sizes... it takes a lot of time when you must do it for several windows.
Now, I do have 1001 Bit original toolset, which creates window frames, and yes, I know about creating a window frame, then entering the group and creating the sliding window frame with the same tool.
And YET:
1 - when you have a window with two sliding window frames, when both sliding windows are in place, the central part of each frame should be juxtaposed over the other, not side by side, which is what happens when you divide the central face in two, with 1001 Bit.
2 - You cant set the materials, Each time you create a new frame, you must enter the groups and set materials. If you have lots of different and more complex windows, this can get VERY time consuming
I wonder if there is not a more refined window creation tool. Like those from BIM software. No need to get THAT complex, but something more along those lines. Btw, automatically creating window glass with THICKNESS (and painting it as glass both inside and out) should be a possibility too.

How to render huge (like 300dpi) images?
Whenever I try to render in like 8000x6000, sometimes even smaller (like 5000x3000) or something like that, I get error messages...
Tried to render smaller areas but not much success. Isnt a way to render directly to a file?
Does rendering multiple channels (diffuse, alpha, etc) overburdens the memory thus creating the error?

RE: [Plugin][$] RoundCorner - v3.4a - 31 Mar 24
thank you for all the input folks.
right now, I solved my problem by reducing the number of lines in the bezier curves (to only 7, the minimal), so when using roundcorner, the problem remains, but it takes a bigger offset to cause the problem (since each inner line of the offset created is larger) and its also easier to MANUALLY delete the overlapping areas and fix them by recreating the lines correctly.
Fredo, your plugin is greater and I hope you find the time (easier said than done, specially since I am not the one spending time with it!) to look through TIG´s code and maybe improve RoundCorner to make it even greater!
This forum is definitly full of awesome people!

Fredo, I noticed that the overlap issues in certain shapes occur even when the offset is MINIMAL...its just harder to notice, unless you zoom in.
The fact is that the algorithm is too geometrical to handle complex meshes. It is more adapted when the edges to round are aligned.
Fredo
from a non programer´s point of view (mine) it seems the plugin works very well with some very complex objects, but cant deal with other specific shape objects, that sometimes dont seem to complex.
in this particular shape I am getting problems, the overlapping occurs because the curve has like 10 lines/faces. When the plugin offsets the inner border, SOME of the inner lines get negative.
cant you adjust the offsetting feature to NEVER get negative values?

RE: [Plugin] [$] Artisan (1.2.3) - Feb 28, 2014
Hi people... I am having some problems with the RoundCurve plugin by Fredo, and he suggested I should do what I intend with ARTISAN.
I never used Artisan or Subdivide and Smooth... so I want to know if what I want to do is possible with ARTISAN and HOW to do it.
Basically, what I have, is a square where I cut 2 of its corners with a bezier curve. Then I pushed/pulled the shape. I selected the top surface and applied Roundcurve, but for some reason, the plugin doesnt works well with bezier curves it seems, so the plugin offsets the curves but the offset "overlaps" itself in the curves, causing weird geometry.
How can I have the same effect with Artisan?
here is what happens when I try to use RoundCorner in my shape... first image shows the overlapping when offsetting the surface... second shows similar overlapping when using RoundCorner, and 3rd image shows the result of applying roundcorner when the curves overlap.
3rd image also shows what I intend to do, so you guys can tell me if that is possible with Artisan and how you do that.
I am also adding the shape that should be extruded and have its corners rounded with Artisan... so I hope you guys can confirm Artisan can do that and teach me how

I guess nobody has a solution? At least a suggestion of another program where I might try to round the corners of my object?
RoundCorner is based on pure geometry and therefore the overlap issues (when the offset is too large) has no satisfactory solution.
I think that Artisan by Whaat, which is based on a softer method, by subdivision, could help.Fredo
