• Help me find old edge selection tool

I remember I used and loved a tool to select edges in complex shapes (like the edges of a complex mesh)

The plugin was not Fredo's Curviwizard, as far as I remember, although it was VISUAL as that one (but without menus)

BUt it allowed you to select an edge segment, click several edges away and it select the edges between based on some paramenters (like maximum angle), or also just move the mouse cursor and it would select the edges (more like Curviwizard)

Thanks

@rv1974 LOL

ok, I remember it being bug splatty, but it was years since last I used it and I simply was not abble to use it this time.

But saying I shouldn´use it is the second part of my question, except I asked suggestions for how to do what I needed, without this plugin.

maybe before draping I could smooth the sidewalks until they are a single selection. Then I drape. Then instead of selecting each plant square and change it's color, I do the opposite. Paint the sidewalks another material. Doing that will alow me to select all entities with still the original sidewalk material to properly deal with them all at the time time (vector push pull)

• RE: [Plugin] Super Drape

I am having bugsplats everytime I try to use it.

I am trying to superdrape like 100 60x60cm squares on a mesh (which has a street layout)

I need the drape to copy the red color of the squares to the mesh, so I can select all 100 squares draped on the mesh and user a vector push pull to create tree spaces.

Any suggestion on how do fix the bugsplat or another method I could try?

• RE: Plane of nothing

the clipping distance in Sketchup is mostly related to the size of the model.

if you have a model with objects 1km distant from each other, your clipping distance will probably be greater than 30cm.

Reduce that distance to 100m and the clipping distance will be 1cm.

So the zoom extends button is good to check if there are no small objects LOST very far from the main model and hindering the clipping distance.

If your model is on purpose very large and you need to edit small objects, maybe it´s ideal to copy the object and paste it on another Sketchup window, edit and return it. Or maybe use with Components and edit them outside the model and have them update automatically, etc.

• RE: Geolocation 3D toggle feature removed

Although it complicates workflow, apparently this program does the same that Sketchup used to do, possibly even better (bigger 3D mesh areas in the highest resolution without having to add multiple grabs)...

But it costs U$250 for the version which can grab terrain meshes. The plus version (which can grab 3D terrain meshes) can also create profiles from the terrain, cross sections and slope analysis.

alternatively, it seems Archicad (and possibly Revit too?) also can import from Google Earth, both mesh and image, and then save as SKP.

you just need what? $15k?

• RE: [Plugin][$] Curviloft 2.0a - 31 Mar 24 (Loft & Skinning)

well, ok, so I deleted LibFredo from the AppData folder, leaving the only version installed at ProgramData.

Now all Fredo6 plugins bugged. Except Curviloft, which now is working... 😛

It seems I need to do the inverse: install all Fredo plugins, including Curviloft, at AppData.

EDIT

Ok, it turns out I can´t install at the default plugins folder. no permissions. Following all the instructions available here at the site did not help. I just can´t change the permissions for the folder. Options greyed-out. Tried to take ownership. No luck.

So I installed two versions of LibFredo6. One using the automatic Sketchucation Store installer at Program Data folder.

The other I installed MANUALLY at the main plugins folder, using RBZ extension, so previous Fredo plugins installed there would work.

Now everything is working again and I do not get the Error Message.

Solved? NO!!! 😕

JUst can´t find Curviloft anywhere. No toolbar (nor toolbar available at "view/toolbars"). Did not find it either at Plugins or the Tools drop down window...

EDIT:

solved, installing Curviloft MANUALLY (RBZ) worked.

• RE: [Plugin][$] Curviloft 2.0a - 31 Mar 24 (Loft & Skinning)

can't find Curviloft at the plugins folder.

there are 4 files with "curvi" name there... all of them related to "curvishear". Is it the same thing?

edit: ok, the problem was that Sketchucation Store showed me one folder as my plugins install folder, while those two plugins were in another folder.

As you can see on my screenshot of the problem, there is a plugins folder at "C:/Users/AcesHigh/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2015/" and another at "C:/ProgramData/SketchUp/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Plugins/"

Error Loading File Fredo6_Curviloft.rb
Error: #<ArgumentError: wrong number of arguments (2 for 1)>
C:/Users/AcesHigh/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Plugins/Fredo6_!LibFredo6.rb:308:in top_load' C:/ProgramData/SketchUp/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Plugins/Fredo6_Curviloft.rb:29:in module:Fredo6'
C:/ProgramData/SketchUp/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Plugins/Fredo6_Curviloft.rb:26:in `<top (required)>'

Analyzing better this, it seems Curviloft is looking for the Fredo6 Library at AppData, while in truth it´s located at ProgramData.

@dave r said:

Have you installed fresh versions of both Curviloft AND LibFredo6?

Yes. Although in my memory I had Curviloft already installed, I was not finding it anywhere. So maybe I did not installed it before on Sketchup 15.

So I installed from the Sketchucation Store Curviloft, it didn´t work (already showed that message). Then I installed the last LibFredo. No change.

• RE: [REQ] Rope/wire plugin

Nektares, this seems quite complicated for more complex geometry, like the part where the rope goes around that tube. And it may not end up realistic. A more complex scene with a rope might be too complicated for this method to work.

@Solo: aside Ropefall, which is subscription based, have you thought of using some BLENDER? Export model to Blender, do the rope, re-import rope to Sketchup?

Not the best workflow, but maybe better than pay a subscription plugin, specially if you do not need ALL THE TIME to work with complex ropes.

here, a tutorial on ropes in Blender. With the added benefit of already creating realistic ropes with the strands twisting, etc

Cmeed: Using Roadkill until now didn't work for me. If I had the uv's layed out right in Roadkill, re-imported the uv's in Sketchup (using SketchUV plugin I bought a long while ago), exporting the model as fbx from Sketchup; for some reason, that fbx export resulted in several small copies of the original texture that I was unwrapping.

Doesn't make sense to me. In Skecthup there's only one material and still several fragments of the same texture are exported.

Importing in Unreal shows the same problem: errors and multiple textures for the same element...

that is the same thing that happens to me when importing Sketchup files in other programs after using SketchUV or TruPaint...

For the correct path, you must extract Plugin content into Sketchup/plugin and Resources content into Sketchup/Resources.

See install guide here:
https://sites.google.com/site/lssoft2011/home/lss-toolbar

problem is that we are told all the time here at Sketchucation we should in no way do manual installations of plugins like it was done in old Sketchup 8 times...

• RE: "Spray tool" to fill volumes instead of areas?

Thanks for the tips. Interesting technique by Pixero, using a mesh with random displacement and fur plugin! However, I guess that unless you use a bitmap of a branch... if you use the bitmap of a single leave, it may look a bit shallow even with the 2nd smaller one inside... maybe not. Only tests can tell.

As for Pilou's tips... I dont see how that TGI3D plugin is of much use in this case, but it's amazing and I can think of MANY other uses for it! Thanks for bringing it to my attention... it´s paid, however, right?

Random replacement is an old known plugin for me, including the version I asked where you can set several % for different components. It may be important to give variety to leaves.

But the important suggestion from Pilou was the obvious random rotation/scale.

After I posted the thread, I went to bed and I started thinking of making a box shaped like the hedge I wanted, then make a small box component a bit larger than the leave... multiplying it thousands of times over the "hedge shaped box", then using SketchPhysics to let them fall and fill the hedge box...

Then replace the thousands of little boxes component's geometry for a leaf geometry.

It just seemed that it might lag a bit lol.

And then I thought: damn, wouldn´t it be easier to just place all components where I want them in an array and then use some plugin to randomly rotate and resize them????

I was sure there was such a plugin...thanks for thinking the same solution I did Pilou, and giving me the link before I asked 😄

• "Spray tool" to fill volumes instead of areas?

I was wondering how a model like this was done
https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=e21736d0ee97865e602ced3945939e8e

Specially because I want to make my own, because these ones were made of common faces instead of groups (badly mapped btw)... however, I have no idea how the model creator filled that volume with faces randomly positioned that way...

Dead end?

why don´t you try 3DS, OBJ, DAE or other format before giving up? Maybe other formats won´t have the same problem.

alternativelly, you are exporting FROM Sketchup. I know there are some programs that can open Sketchup files and then you can save them as something else. I never used those programs nor I know if the end result would be different, but maybe you should try (IF there is a trial version) SimLab exporter plugin or SimLab Composer... it seems SimLab Composer can work with several formats including Sketchup. So MAYBE you can open your sketchup file in SimLab Composer and export as FBX and the result MIGHT be different...
