Here's a chess piece I've made using SUbD and Vertex Tools.
      Greetings!

        A Music inspired Work

This work is not what it looks like at first sight but a scene taken from the musical film from Pink Floyd`s "The Wall".

The Pink Floyd album “The Wall” (1979) is one of my all-time favorite albums ever. I’m not necessarily a Pink Floyd fan though, but this album hit me directly and I still like to hear it over and over again. Especially I love the “Live in Berlin” version from 1990 where also many guest stars from this time were performing this album.

Certainly it is unnecessary to explain that the scene shown below is inspired by the “Hammers March” scene from the “The Wall” musical movie from 1982 - some of the “older ones” among us will surely remember 😉 and the album I recommend to all younger people here who might not know it ...

a personal note: Too bad that the theme “Wall” has returned so strongly in these times again in an often unreasonable manner…

        [Hammer proxy model is attached]

My wife and her family were some of the last "citizens" allowed to leave with no papers and no money as undesirables, so I know full well your reference. So strange that we moved back decades later and lived in Dresden for so long.

Thank you Box!! my wife suggested me not to post this work as it could be misunderstood.
But now I'm sure it's right to post this picture, even and also especially because of it´s negative real context-association.

There's several scenes and a couple of styles involved. I'll try to share the file next week (I'm off until monday)

Hi HornOxx, your hammers would be a good example for an animation of the march with animator (Fredo6). The threatening effect comes across quite well in your renderings. At that time I recorded the concert of Pink Floyd in Berlin from the TV to a videotape.
                    Those were the days...

since SubD user Ted Vitale has already started the winter- or even x-mas season(?) with a so nice contribution on SubD´s facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SUbD4SketchUp/)
I would like to add this reindeer couple (anyway, they look like this a little bit) here as well because maybe these two will soon have to pull a sledge 😄

Did a quick print this morning.
One thing to note, very gentle slopes, when it is almost horizontal but isn't, are hard to print. You can see it's quite rough on the back and the top of the head. But in this case it works as it seems to have created a face.

                            Straight out of the printer

Hi Box 👍 great to see the reindeer thing to get real - even more on the other side of the earth - somehow I'm still wondering about these digital possibilities today 😉
thanks for doing this at all and thank you for the interesting remarks - so it is better for a 3d printing process to avoid horizontal edges and faces?

I notice that the promotional material for SketchUp came with a picture of a model that is obviously NOT created using the tools provided in SketchUp. I guess this is common for SW promotions....

Horizontal is ok because the printer just make one layer, it's when it is just off horizontal that it causes problems. It has to print a face with many different layers and the steps between the edges of each layer can mess things up.

Needed some more table lamps for the parts file. The lamp base is a take off from a lamp I own. Base has 12 flutes around, easy doings with Vertex Tools and SubD. Just changed the taper between the two with Vertex Tools.

Monochrome image of lamps with proxies, quickie render of finished lamps.
