windknot - I've found that you must do 3 things. the bigger the size the better - i.e 1230 x 901 at 16:9 res is better than 720 x 340 . under codecs use full frame uncompressed highest frame rate 30fps. It will take hours to render and produce a 300meg plus file but it will look the best you can get out of sketchup and it will also compress down to a useable - web postable - size and retain the clarity.

Gaieus advice solves the problem. But if you are looking for editing curved surfaces (eg. draw a rect. and push pull) don't miss this out: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=11212 It is Fredo6's Tools on Surface plugin. IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

That won't make a face for you as you would need a closed, coplanar set of edges for that script. That's actually something I have never used in my life as redrawing an edge to heal a face is always easier than to dig three levels down to find a plugin and then start selecting bounding edges meticulously.

Some useful stuff on this page. http://www.carlsondesign.com/ including the Hull Designer software near the bottom of the page (free) It also mentions a design program for sheet metal work, which (I think) is on this page. http://pagesperso-orange.fr/robert.laine/sailcut/index.html

thanks, I checked out the thread and one of the things he says is that his plug in is NOT intended for object animation. That could be my problem. I may need to look for a plug-in that is more object oriented.

Hi Brandon, No images. Please, forget imageshack (a lot of members have problems with it anyway) and attach the images here instead.

@bjornhk said: I need to be able to import a 2D vector file (AI/EPS, WMF, SVG, PDF or other) into SketchUp (non-Pro), but there's no such import filters, it seems. Theoretically, it should be possible to do this by converting the the file to a DXF and then import it using the DWG/DXF plugin, but i can't find any reasonably priced utility that converts to DXF/DWG... Does anybody have a suggestion how to go about it? Bjørn Illustrator is the best commercial tool for this. For free, this should be doable with Ghostscript (a free Postscript clone) and suitable free plugins (PSTOEDIT). It's years since I had a look into it, but it is still available. http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit/ Anssi

@unknownuser said: here's the basic idea behind my approach.. Thank Jeff- i'm having a look at it right now.. i wish i had a photo, but no luck. This looks very close to what i'm after... Update: Okay, okay- i can see where this can go.. i am prepared to spend as much time on this as necessary. I must know it! Back to it- thanks for the starting point!

Interesting place. One always wonders how these "sacred areas" have been inherited through ages and cultures. @aerilius said: ...At least I would like better camera control (sometimes the camera fails to show placemarks with a flat angle to the ground) Yes, always be careful not to shoot a very close angle to the ground in SU because that can drive GE nuts. Best is to set the cameras in GE.

Hy thanks for that. I'll have a look to see if there are any dc walls already made. If not I'll have a go myself. Making the components is to hard, but making them dynamic to what i want them to do is. For me anyway. Thanks again. Luke

Great -- that did it. Scaling resolved the problem completely (the final diameter of the rod is only 5mm). Thanks! David.P

Hi Bob, This sounds like a similar that issue popped up with SketchUp 7.1. We're taking a close look and hope to have it fixed in the next SketchUp release.
