Hi tbender, @tbender54 said: ... Everything went fine as far as putting the files in but when I open the Sketchup preferences I don't get a bezier extension to turn on. You didn't post in the Bezier Plugin topic. Did you get it solved? After installing the files, you have to restart SU because SU only reads what's in the Plugins directory when it starts up -- that includes adding the option to the Preferences > Extensions menu. It's also possible to have the Bezier Extension installed but have the toolbar turned off. Go to View > Toolbars to check. I hope this helps, August

hi, you don't have to draw lines to measure from the center point to the steel plate edge. Start dimension, constrain the first point to the center of the circle and click, for the 2nd point, lock into a surface plane and move the curser to the edge of the steel plate and let the mouse pop over to a corner of the plate and click again. So drag your mouse around and orient the still dynamic dimension where you want it. [image: jOja_dimensiontocenter.JPG]

Hey all Really sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I've been offline for a little while. You guys really helped, we turned a few things off as Thom suggested and turning off unused materials helped alot too! I'm sorry I didn't send over the file, it's a client file and it was best I checked with them first (I still haven't heard back from them) If I can, I will send the unedited model over and let you guys go to work on it Thank you!

@utiler said: Cool Brodie, thanks for the image and lengthy post! Reading through your comments it makes total sense to do just that; prepare in CAD for as long as you can to make SU workflow less lengthy. The CAD files I received were actually a 3D terrain of the design levels of the site so I had actual finished surface to play with. the trouble was with the 2D file really; just as you said lines not joining, and small line segments and some slightly off Z made making faces a challenge and dropping linework over the terrain a time consuming task..... Anyhow, I've learnt a lot to date so the next time I'm sure I'll get it done a whole lot quicker!!! Ya, fixing things in CAD is crucial to not driving yourself mad. To deal with the Z axis thing you should definitely select all your linework in CAD and go to properties. If your linework is polylines you can just go to Elevation and set it to 0. If the linework is in regular lines then same deal except you have to set it to 0 in both the Start Z and End Z boxes. Smustard.com has a lot of rubies that should help out a ton with this little areas where segments aren't quite attached or there are stray lines, etc. They cost a bit of money though and I'm cheap so I don't have them That stray lines issue is huge by the way. For some reason if you have a stray little line inside of closed linework that would normally create a face, that stray line prevents SU from creating a face so you have to find the little bugger and delete it (or use a ruby to do that). -Brodie

Hi Frascati, hi folks. First, the blue axis is pointing down in your model. Normally, this axis shall point up. Unless you are modeling from under the model. Second, to scale diametrically, use one of the middle handle that are in the corner of the scaling cube. Start scaling, you will see two number in the dimension window. Let go of the mouse and type 7,7 or 7;7, depending on your regional settings. Validate by a press of the RETURN key or the ENTER key. Of course, you can press the CTRL prior while scaling to perform a symmetrical scaling about the center (or the axis) of your fan. Just ideas.

I think your best bet for getting something quoted commercially is to look up professional model builders and get some quotes. For each job that I quote, I try to get as accurate of a description as possible from the client, and then I send a written quote. Each model and component is different, and will require a quote... Let me know if you need some numbers. If its not something that I can do, I can direct you to the right people.

@danbig said: Has anyone come up with a good way to save a few different workspaces for sketchup? I'm on Windows XP with SU Pro 7.1 Well.. on Windows, Sketchup saves all the data in the User hive of the Registry, so... the only (easy) way now, to run SU differently OR run diferent minor releases of the same major Sketchup version, is to create separate User accounts on Windows. In your case.. the NORMAL user for mutli-screen, and a SECONDARY account for single-screen. There are filesharing issues however. You'd need to save your models in the 'All Users' folder tree (displays as 'Shared Documents') so you could access them from both accounts. (..or just "Share" the secondary user's Documents folder and subfolders.) After making the secondary account, you log off it, and onto the normal account. Then when you need to run Sketchup in single-screen mode, you do a "Run As..." (right-click your Sketchup icon, and choose 'Run As..',) and run Sketchup as the secondary user, but still you can run anything else as the primary user (most importantly your email client,) etc. because your still logged on as the primary user. You'd never really ever need to log onto the secondary user, if the primary user is an administrator; because admin's can see all user hives in regedt32.exe in case you need to look at the secondary's SU settings in the Registry. So your just using the secondary user account, to create a separate User Hive to save Sketchup settings for a Single-Screen mode. (You could even name the user SingleScreen.)

Thanks for that response. I was hoping for something in the way of an elegant shortcut, but at least it is good to have some place to start.

Hi Vizier, I also really hate to send people away from these forums but when it comes to specific applications, best is to ask on their dedicated forums. Although you may happen to get answer here, too, if someone experienced with LightUp stumbles upon your topic, but you can definitely get answers over the LightUp Forums.

Using Layout is another alternative when trying to control the aspect ratio. Its also great if you have many scenes to export. With Layout you have to setup the page the first time, but on subsequent prints, it just a single click. If you are careful with your scene naming you can use old Layout files already setup, and swap out the source model.

I get the same thing sometimes. Not only with circles. All kinds of shapes. My solution is usually to draw a line over one of the edges of the shape that needs to be cut out.. this usually solves the problem. if it doesn't, I draw a line from one side to the other, crossing the new face. sometimes this does solve the problem, sometimes it doesn't...
