Camera Viewing Angle
-
My only frustration with SU is the viewing angle when in walkabout. It would be really useful if the viewing angle could be adjusted to what I can see with my eye (including some peripheral vision) and not just what a 55mm camera lens shows!. Zooming isn't the answer (or doesnt seem to be) as it merely drives me back out through the wall!
Great free software though - it actually does something useful!

go
Camera->Field of View
and adjust to your liking -
Am I missunderstanding something? I hadn't seen that control before, but it doesn't do anything different for Zooming? I want to be able to expand the angle of view, but not change the distance I am from the point I'm looking at. All Zoom seems to do (and Field of View) is to move toward or away from point of interest. In many respects Field of View and Zooming would be similar, but with zooming I often find myself backing out through walls etc, if I was changing the field f view that couldn't happen?
apologies for being confused.

it's not the same as zooming.. changing the feild of view does exactly what you're asking for.. keep messing with it and you'll see..

Hi Avon,
Although I said I did not use the Walk tool too much, I have just tried and the FOV setting works just like in other "views".
To set your Field of View wider (either when walking about or modelling), select the Zoom tool first. In the Measurement box you will see your current FOV - if you want, you can manually overwrite it to something higher OR press the Shift key (while the Zoom tool is active) and start pulling it up/down on the screen with your left mouse button. See the FOV changing both visually and instantly in the Measurement box. -
Gentlemen, thankyou for your help.
Now I can get a realistic viewing angle and it does do what it says on the tin (almost). Using the mouse to change viewing angle causes the viewpoint to move also, which is unhelpful. Simply typing the angle, though, works a treat.
Thanks again

When I use Zoom Area to zoom into the model, the camera moves and Susan disappears.
Is here a ruby somewhere which zooms into an area by changing the field of view rather than moving the camera?

I don't think there is Al.
