@pmolson said: ....... To each his own. I offered some (to some an awkward) solution. But like I said, I don't see this as an option for me since SketchUp gives me the 3D view in real time in perspective. I hardly use parallel projection mode when modeling. To OP: b.t.w. even isometric view is possible combined with the other views, front etc. If you correctly set up a copy instance.

Another way would be the deactivation in the style settings.

Yes, nearly all actions should pay attention to inferences. Or you can enter an exact value in the VCB.

REPLY : I received a response from Twilight Render Techs. They informed me that, clicking on either PAYPAL or BRAINTREE icons would initiate the payment process. But, they should've had something on that same page designating those "icons" as the link to the payment. I had no way of knowing that these "icons" were links. I DID see them on the page, but didn't recognize them as links. Thanks for your reply. garystan

Dave R, in hidden line mode, the same thing happens as in a monochrome face style, single click selects an edge or face quickly, double click selects a face and its boundaries, quite promptly triple clicking selects a face but if the edges were already selected, they deselect. In wireframe single clicking and double clicking have a slightly quicker response but single click selects an edge, double click adds two adjacent faces but still no triple click. My project is now complete and it hasn't been a major problem, but curious since its only in this model.

All I show in my first post is absolutely possible in SketchUp. There is a script "Get Dimensions" by Jim Foltz showing correct size for bounds of groups and components. A script from Fredo6 "Best fitting bounding box for for a single face" (for 2d elements). Scripts to show size of edges (or lines). (Single drawing elements can be added to "single element groups" inside scripts to extract size with above mentioned tools too). I wander why such a tool did not exist if so widely wished. A tool that collects size info for every drawing element. (I know it will duplicate some of the Entity info fields, but it is OK if the objective is to collect size information in one place.) I'm trying to put all above in a single info label, but my knowledge in programing is too poor. Is there anyone to help with code? ("Help" in my case = someone to write the script) For now I imagine it as small label on screen updated on selection change - like this: [image: EZm0_Label.jpg] Area, volume, names can be added too, but I try to make it as small as possible, so may be as optional rows in the above label. Next step will be a dialog, and changing size (input) to act as resize/scale (relative to current axis location for components and groups).

If can have groups instead of some components it will also be faster. So, for big models "good" modeling practices (I know Dave will kill me now... ) it's better to start off by groups and not components. (Before you kill me Dave) Rich O'Brien made a tree model with all leaves as components and it worked slower... Now I can't find it and I can't be sure if the leaves were pure geometry or groups...

[image: 4DJX_rendera.jpg] Here's an image where you can see that the 4-layer extrusions are easy to do in the flatter areas (e.g. on top of the shell) but they don't work well where there is a lot of curvature. The problem is mainly that you need to extrude along a path with quite variable orientation of the normals.

Do any of you that have used the Surface Book with SketchUp have any updates since the last post? I am seriously considering getting a Surface Book i7, 16gb, 512 ssd with the performance base. I want to run SU 2017. Keep in mind I will be using this to mostly present models and make some adjustments on the fly. Most of my modeling will be on my desktop.

No. There's no plugin to do that. I'm not even sure that it can be done with a plugin. You could create that look by combining a couple of image exports, though. Profiles are displayed around each component or group so if you wanted to show them around the outside only using a single export, you could explode all the components and groups in the model. I'd prefer the two image exports myself.

House Builder does NOT 'come' with any SketchUp installation. You have to deliberately install it yourself. There are only a small handful of su_ extensions shipped with SketchUp's installer... If you get and install the SketchUcation PluginStore Toolset [now v3 ExtensionStore] from the PluginStore then that has Managers. This allows you to disabled selected Extensions AND Plugins. Disable [red-button] House Builder and restart SketchUp. You can enable it temporarily [orange-button] when you want to use it. Or enable it fully [green-button], as you desire...

Okay, so I think my last post was a bit overkill - I will try to break my problems down! I want to create a tent where the user can choose between predefined heights. The tent must not be resized, as the sizes of the subcomponents need to stay the same. But, as in the real life version, the upper part of the tent (roof and upper part of the tent legs) need to slide up or down on the lower part of the leg. I can do this quite easily if I click on the subcomponent "tent_upper". There I can define the position of the subcomponent. BUT: in order to do so I need to click on the component "tent" and then click on the subcomponent "tent_upper". But this is not intuitiv. I'm looking therefore for an option to click on the component and get to choose the different heights. I tried using LenZ on the tent and locking the subcomponent LenZ in the hope SketchUp would keep the height of the subcomponents as they are and just change their position. tl;dr: How can I change the position of a subcomponent in a DC by just selecting its parent component? I hope this clears things up a bit!
