Hi, Just in case anybody else wants the answer... I have figured out that all you need to do is zoom out, point your cursor to where you need to go, and zoom back in. The focus goes where the cursor is pointing. Just a slightly different way of panning around but works. (Still prefer the SketchUp method though) Regards Mr S

@unknownuser said: Great topic Dave! I also have TBD's Time Track but suffer from not start/stopping it correctly so it becomes a little ineffective due to user error! There are a few useful tips here though which I can try. Dylan, second time today we agree on something. Most of the time I recount the activities of the day and jot down the modeling time.

I agree with you on a small scale or from a community perspective. This option would greatly speed up game level production, though. With multiple people working on one large level, it takes a lot of time to step through all the objects and manually update them (or at the very least, stop by everyone's desk and ask them what/if they changed anything from the day before). It's definitely a low-level difference, having an option to externalize internal elements. I could maybe see a script or external app. that could compare/check SU against external elements, but I suspect that parsing process would get bogged down after a hundred or so files.

This is true - there have even been discussions about this with the developers. It now works like in old DOS times when an ESC command closed the applications.

So it seems that only nested components in groups explode via exporting. Have you tried not grouping them but making another component?

No problem Spence. Have a look around, they have some other pretty useful scripts there.

I changed my plan (SketchUp) and did a 'follow me' on my box to give me a thickness and then did the 'push-pull'. That gave me a thickness to the walls. Thanks.

Hi Fred, How do you perform the draping operation? Do you drape the whole geometry onto the terrain in one (maybe as grouped)? It is most probably layered (from the imported CAD drawing), could you try to drape the geometry layer by layer? To me it seems that the drape tool somehow has its limits at certain cases.

Ive never had any problems with SU and vista, and you don't often hear aobut them, its usually more to do with graphics drivers and (intellipoint) mouse software In terms of purchasing a laptop for SU stuff, the things to look out for are a dual core processor with a highish clock rate (2.4 ghz or thereabouts) and a proper graphics card. Of the two the graphics card is probably the most important, lots of laptps use integrated graphics to save money, but these dont work with SU. If you can, go for a quadro graphics card as they generally have the best drivers for supporting openGL (the thing SU uses) Its also very important do shop around, as different places have deals on all the time, and dont feel presured to buy a computer, i can sometimes be worth waiting for a it to try and get the best deal possible.

Thank you, it was a mix of the 'use fast feedback' in preferences and the mouse settings. Much appreciated. Great to get fast response.

@anssi said: Gaieus, You are misrepresenting me a bit, I am not a regular Mac user. I own one, but it is I think about 10 years old and totally unable to run SU. I bought an Intel Imac for my daughter and tried SU on it a couple of times.... ...Sorry I cannot be of more help, I'm mainly just quoting things read in these forums. Anssi Me too, Anssi. I often quote you in these cases. I wonder where the original information comes then if we just quote each other But seriously; I did really have the impression for some reason that you used Mac (although NOW as I see your specs it clearly say Windows )
