Thanks. It's always helpful to know the underlying reasons. I'll try exporting to a 2D image at high resolution when I need to print. Julian

Interesting Thomas, One would think that if it works for Poser, a similar way could be found for sketchup. But what about Vista (and its 64 bit versions)?. Vista has the 3B switch 'on' by default, but in a global way, not per application... I am not having the impression that SU is large adress aware in Vista neither (=I experience the same crashes as I used to have using XP 32 bit when exporting large SU files to a render engine).

For import the kml files to sketchup use to the plugin "ae_KMLTools_2.0.0-beta.rbz" See the netx link http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=38009

@gaieus said: No, Remus' solution is easier: draw a triangle offset it simply move the inner triangle up (or down) The side faces will be created automatically (by the autofold feature). Ahh ha ha ha... I missed his offset reply because I went to try the the scaling solution.

Thanks Tom, I thought about that as one way. That would require finding the center point of the curve. The method that i used was draw a line perpendicular to each mullion. Then align each bracket to this line. BTW when zooming in how can I avoid the clipping of the view that occurs? Im having a tough time getting in close to view things. I know this has been talk about quite a bit but never knew if there was a solution. I tried changing zoom factor but this did not help.

Hi Aaron, You will need to use the follow me tool (scroll don to the bottom where a cone is made similarly) to model a dome. Also see attached file for ideas (open it and lick on the scene tabs). Ah yes, and welome. I used to suffer with my first domes until I found out how easy it is to make one with a couple of clicks You can also turn on hidden geometry (view menu) to se how your new ome is constructed. You could have, of course, hand stitch your "wireframe" dome from endpoint to endpoint to achieve it and then soften all the lines. Sometime (with lesst regular geometry) that is actually the way we do it. DomeTut.skp

Im guessing the problem is that the laptop doesnt have a graphics card. This means no opengl support and being stuck with hardware acceleration off. Not really a lot you can do about it unless you want to buy a new laptop.

here's how I did it (fastest method): triple click on the jet plume, this selects all hold shift and click on the SURFACE of the plume, this deselects the fire surface but has all the edges selected right click on an edge in the selection and say "hide" i think this worked because you must have started with a cylinder at some point, similar to my previous post here [image: ApvO_JetPlume2.jpg]

About the beta 2.0 of 21 september 2008 @unknownuser said: both of these reported SketchUp bugs (missing faces when a polygon's points are too close together less than 0.001, and unit system scaling wrong) are now fixed up for the next beta release. Michael So wait the next

I tried reverse faces, but that just gives me whatever texture was on the reverse side. I've tried to keep the faces the right way.

there shouldnt be any difference between direct x 9 and 10 when your using SU. As for your original problem, have you tried messing about with the opengl settings? (window->preferences->opengl-> fast feedback and hardware acceleration.) Theres a slim chance it might be your problem.

Ray, you are going to need a UV unwrapper like Ultimate Unwrap 3D. You are probably also going to need your model completely made of triangles, No problem if exported to 3ds. UU 3D is only 50 or 60 bucks, depending on the version. Frankly, SU Pro ought to have incorporated these features long ago. http://www.unwrap3d.com/

Hi Gigi, hi folks. Sorry for the text being cut off. I made that tutorial on an 19 inches monitor and, if viewed on anything smaller, it may produce that result. Simply zoom out to get the whole picture. You may also pan if required. This tutorial is simply a SKP model using Scenes. Use the Scenes tab on top of the model window one by one and in numerical order in order to follow the development of the modeling. When you have an inference that suits you, remember to press and hold the SHIFT key to lock it. While still maintaining the SHIFT key down you can continue with the drawing operation (line drawing for example). For a parallel line, you use these steps: 1 - Find the starting point with the inference from the center of a circle. 2 - Click on the center to start the line. 3 - Place the cursor over a line that you would like to be parallel to. Wait for the pop-up stating "On edge". 4 - Place the cursor in such a way that you get a line attached to the staring point already defined and in a direction roughly parallel to the line inferenced at step 3. Wait for the magenta inference and the pop-up. 5 - Press and hold the SHIFT key to lock the inference. 6 - Move the cursor along the required direction and for the required length. Use the VCB, if required to specify the exact length. 7 - Click to set the end of the line. 8 - Release the SHIFT key. Just ideas.
