Hmm....this was complicated! I have tested all kinds of values and I'm a little bit confused about the min and max rate? Will a min max value of -3 0 produce a better image, then with a min max value of -2 0 ? It looks like if I increase sample, the facade don't get crispy and sharp, correct? I still have problems with the spots.

Which of the materials are displaced? From your sample render I don't see any materials where it's obvious. Maybe bumpmap would do? Displacement is very memory intensive. And is you use it on large surfaces you force V-Ray to keep it in memory for longer - so you want to subdivide large displaced surfaces. But - you have a ~1million face model - it might very well be all the geometry that eat your memory.

@unknownuser said: ps. Please do not use all caps - they are terribly difficult to read. Also - you entered your V-Ray for SketchUp version in your profile where you should have entered your SketchUp version. We also have a "V-ray" subforum under the "Extensions..." forum so I am moving the topic there.

Rule #1: make sure that the geometry you want to displace is isolated into a group or component. If the displaced geometry is connected to any other geometry with a different material the displacement won't work. I really don't recommend messing with the power parameter, if you want physically accurate results. The power overrides the IES file's information. It should be left to 0, unless you really know what you're doing. Plugging in random numbers isn't going to result in something accurate, because the IES file already contains the correct information for that particular light. Get a different IES file, and ensure that you are working in the proper units.

Thanks Gaieus for your advice. @gaieus said: Regarding your window colour: go to your material browser > In model, there select the window colour and go to the Edit tab. At the bottom, there is the transparency slider (I would use a less blue glass however). I was ignorant enough to try and edit the stock material, which is apparently attributed read only. The controls were at least disabled. [This item should of course have gone into the newbie forum.]

kc10, for idx, maybe you can get better help on their forum. It also helps to post a image of your problem. As I recall, background images are included in the idx environment menu. You should be able to select your view in Sketchup, then render in idx by matching screen size.

I also think that Dave has updated the exporter to handle larger SKP files.

Copying importing components with V-Ray materials should bring the V-Ray materials along with VfSU 1.48.xx

Well, I am a user of Allplan for fifteen years or more and I can say Allplan is a great peace of junk. It's very expensive, it's complicated und there is only a rudiment of a virtual building. The best about Allplan is the money they spend in advertising. So, why I'm so rude? Very easy! Yes, you can build a virtual model and feed it with data. But all functions to get a benefit out of your model are only half developed. There are a lot of known bugs which are not fixed for years and after a main release there are certain new bugs in functions, which worked properly before (e.g. in version 2008 the dimensioning tool was fine, in version 2009 it took a service release to fix it). In the german nemetschek allplan forum are a lot of dissapointed users. They all stay with Allplan, because they paid so much money (and my boss, too) until now and they all HOPE that the bugs get fixed in the next main release. From my point of view I can say: Allplan is far away from a modern BIM-based CAD. The only usable and payable BIM-based CAD I know are ArchiCAD and Revit. Torben

Your second image looks like your exposure is about right - it looks like you just need to work on your quality settings. For a lot of reflected light, I find DMC and Light Cache gives me the smoothest image. There are a variety of visopt settings you can try at asgvis downloads for final render quality. The one tip I found useful is to set the color threshold very low in "Image Sampler" to .01 or .005 for the final image (as long as your computer is up to the task... it can take really long on a slow machine.)
