SketchUp 2015 is 64bit
-
is it just me (and my pc) or there isnt any noticable improvement in UI navigation performance with heavier models?
its faster to open and save, but i was hoping to be able to work on high poly models with a 64bit version, but the navigation speed seems the same as with 2014 32bit...
nevertheless, im glad that sketchup is moving to 64bit

I think they forgot to test on a Quadro, it's really buggy with nVidia saying sketchup ran out of memory on a blank/fresh scene. Also dragging the window around results in very sluggish program. Hopefully nvidia updates their drivers.

64bit is not faster than 32bit - and can be even slower in some cases - but it enables you to address more RAM and work with bigger files. And navigation speed is not related to RAM size, but only to CPU speed (single threaded) and GPU speed (which is less important in SU).
-
hmmm i see... but with other software like Cinema 4D i can produce high poly scenes without it ever slowing down... (navigation wise)
i thought it had to do with C4D being 64bit, and was hoping to work with high poly models in SU 2015, but it still bogs down
even so there are some other new features that i like and will come in handy

My large models are definitely moving and rotating fast and without going into wire mode.

Was going to wait till some of the inevitable bugs were worked out till I tried 2015, but after reading some of the comments here I decided to give it a shot.
My needs are very basic, I don't use many plugins, so I wasn't sure what the new 64bit SU would do for me.
WOW! I loaded one of my largest models (not in size, only 4.87MB, but over 3 million edges, 30,000 component instances, etc) and was immediately impressed with how quickly the shadows regenerated when moving the model. Only a second or two, and with R8 I usually took a nap while waiting for the shadows to eventually reappear. And as Krisidious pointed out, without it going into wire mode, no matter how much I played with the model.
Don't know how I'll live without my beloved and much used Nudge tool, but with what I've seen so far with 2015, I guess I'll learn to get by without it.
It'll be worth it, since I don't render I depend on using shadows to make my models look presentable. Now it will be a whole lot easier. -

Why? Works fine for me. You had me really worried until I checked to make sure

Can't wait to Vray render in Sketchup 2015!! excited.
-
My enthusiasm for 2015 has been tempered by the fact that I cannot use the Model Location plugin. The Nudge plugin I can maybe do without, but not the Model Location plugin. Not about to go back to physically rotating the model each time I want to adjust the shadows.
Knew it was too good to be true

That's an easy fix Steve I'd imagine.
One will eventually come.

The new labeling tools are great in Layout. Finally looks like we have the power of Leaders in SketchUp. I've posted about my thoughts http://robindejongh.com/?p=1019
The 64 bit experience is the biggie, although I still can't get it to work. Memory on my 8Mb machine is still capped at 4Mb. Anyone with suggestions?
-
Ah, then I switched on shadows

Try adding 10000 array of cube and orbiting.

In V2014 I had the VCB docked on the left hand side. In V2015 I can seem to move it. How do I move it or is it now fixed?
-
Still can't believe it's 64 bit. Am I dreaming?!

If you mean like this, docked above the bottom status bar. Right click on the top toolbar and select Measurements toolbar and drag it to where you want it.

All the plugin gods on this forum. Can we have a list of plugins which will not work in the 2015 version of sketchup or which will certainly won't be updated because their creators are no more interested in their future development?

After much digging I may have found solutions to my problems with 2015 - two of my favorite plugins not working "Model Location" and "Nudge".
Seems TIG is on the ball and has updated a plugin that will work in 2015
this thread can be found here http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=40142#p40142
TIG's post can be found down at the bottom of the thread, with a link to download the plugin. As for Nudge, Smustard has apparently updated the plugin to work with newer SU versions
although I cannot say for certain that it works with 2015. I purchased the plugin about six hours ago and have yet to receive the email with the download link. I have had good luck with their plugins in the past so I'm hoping for the best.Just thought I would pass along this information in case anyone else was wanting these plugins for the new and improved SU

cool news! Need to test

You might take a few minutes to have a look around. This is already in progress in the Plugins forum.
