Thanks Marian. I usually try to avoid 3dwarehouse, mainly because I get tired of all the editing I have to do. In this case though, I think these will do the trick. Cathryn

Well, pixplant has a feature to incorporate repeating patterns (if there are any of course). Also you can add as many "seeds" (i.e. colour variations) as you wish. (Which brings into my mind that I should go out and take a bunch of photos for my pixplant...)

Try searching 3DWH - there are quite a few, here is one. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=2D+musicians&styp=m&btnG=Search&reps=1&start=0

Revit is exactly the same. Almost glad to hear that ArchiCAD has the same problem. The funny thing is that AutoCAD is more straight forward in assigning "dynamic" qualities! We've turned back to SketchUP, simply because we're quicker with it & can get the output we need. Rendering with Twilight & Kerkythea just adds the gloss when needed & can produce a similar quality as the Mental Ray engine supplied with Revit/AutoCAD (at least at my level of expertise ).

Easier, yes. But, as you know, it isn't difficult at all to reposition the texture to avoid seams. In Pete's piece there are a lot of large surfaces that, if they were made in solid wood, would be glued up of several narrower pieces. It wouldn't look right to have the same cathedral grain repeated across the width. Even with sawn veneer it wouldn't be the same going across the width. My original question was asked because I see seamless wood material and the high realism that seems to be a goal in renderings for many folks as counter to each other.
