Oh, TIG, you life saver, i didn't remember the preferences setup.
It wasn't in the AppData folder, it was in the ProgramData folder, which is hidden.

    Thanks, guys!

Make sure you have the symbols in the upper left area of the page. The scrapbook may have a smaller sheet size than the one you are drawing in and you can't see the object you've pasted. Not right, but that seems to be how it is for now. (To do this you must press the "Edit" button for the scrapbook of course.)

All working now. Must be the parent file...
file has set 4 2000/500 perhaps the / invalidates it? Worked previously but not now.

I don't quite understand what you are referring to but I think the slash wouldn't be allowed in a filename if that's what you were trying to do.

Happy to help but I'm not sure I did anything useful.

Whoa! 30x42" are you designing site signs? Most builders here in Australia would bury you under the footings if you used a sheet this large!

What sized projects are you working on? if it's an airport I guess you can be excused!

Yes, it's a crazy size to manage in the field. I never go larger than 24"x36"

FWIW, I only export paper space for LO.

For a model space file I export out of SU.

No, from a previous version of the SKP.

No Kris, I was referring to the SKP file embedded in the LO file. Peter understood that right.

Without the files, my guess is that the scene is saved with an active section cut, but the style does not allow display of section cuts. You place the scene in LayOut and it's OK. You change the style in LayOut to one that is set to allow display of section cuts. Now you see the cut. That's the only way I can duplicate what I think you are saying. All styles are edited within SketchUp, even the ones you select in LayOut (they're the same).

and I agree it's can of worms, ball of wax, whatever.

Fonts seem to occupy their own universe. If you look at five different fonts, all at 20 pts, they will all be different heights. You will have to decide which font you want to use, determine what its actual height is relative to your required point size and adjust the point size accordingly.

Cheap or freely sourced fonts do have this tendency! Fonts from reputable foundry tend to follow proper protocols!

Hi, i dont know about LO 2015, but i think its the same procedure, just follow the instruction. if u think your CAD is blank, just change your CAD background colour to white. it will show up, just change all the line to white or by layer. but the only problem is, i dont know how to change the text colour globally... the default color is black. it will be painful to select the text and turn it white one by one. maybe someone could help us out...

  • How to dimension elevation?

Mikar - this is why I use standardized templates for each drawing type. The scales are preset. You should have your model set to scale obviously and then your dimension tool set to that same scale.

Exploding the SU model for me would take up too much time due to the file size.

    Hi all,

thanks for your input, which made me find out what happened. After dimensioning something in the middle of a floorplan and moving the offset points outside of the plan manually (so that the extension lines wouldn't cut through the plan) LO somehow took the distance between connection point and offset point as default. Then, when dimensioning something along the outside of the plan, this new default distance (which was quite long) led to inverting the extension line.

I wish one could turn off the extension lines completely and have custom made start and end arrows on the dimension lines, then I wouldn't have to bother with extension lines cutting through the plan and need to shorten them manually.

    Regards
    Mikar

Not sure it's an oversight. The dimension tools have been evolving in LO since their first introduction. It might be that we'll see some additional dimension types in LO2016. We can keep our fingers crossed, anyway.

    BTW

WinRar has a feature to choose if to wipe rar/zips when your done.

    @unknownuser said:

By default, WinRAR leaves traces of temporarily extracted files.

WinRAR does indeed create temporary files when opening them directly from the archive. It also performs a normal deletion once WinRAR is closed. However, deleted files do physically stay on the disk after you delete them. Normal delete operations only delete the file from the filesystem index.

Think of it like trying to remove a page from a book by striking its title from the index page - the page stays in the book.

WinRAR has a nice feature that securely wipes (removes the index, and the page itself from the book) temporarily extracted files after WinRAR is closed. By default, this feature is turned off. You can turn it on from the security settings window.

    winrar-secure-wipe

By default, it's set to 'Never', you don't want that. The option 'Always' securely wipes all temporarily extracted files, while the option 'Encrypted only' wipes temporarily extracted files only if they belong to an encrypted archive.

    Oops, missed your answers here.
I tested once again with generic perspectives and vector view, and now it's ok. However, the photomatch scenes keep on zooming with vectorview in LO - i think it depends on the distortion of axis when photomatching (some scenes have wide FOV). Well, got to test it further, because it would be a really time saving method (even now).

I had something similar happen once with a very large pdf export. Since then I break my construction documents into smaller sets...floor plans, elevations, etc. each with their own LO file. This really helps with organization and helps if you only need to send out a couple portions of the specific set.

That said, the way I fixed the problem, was a did a "Save as" to the file to preserve the original copy. On the copied file, I removed the pages that were problematic. I then inserted blank pages in the locations of the sheets removed. I then copy pasted from the original files all the page specific information to the new blank sheets. This doesn't take very long and is worth a try as it worked for me. After that, I never tried to make my LO files typically more than 8 sheets max.

Still, If you're doing a series of drawings of your model and you want them to match in size and paper position it's easier to duplicate page and change what scene the new page's viewport is displaying.

I do all my plan section views like that and it's way easier than having to resize viewports to match each other...

    That's my workflow, as well.

Just replied to this in another thread - might be helpful. It's under the SketchUp section search for 'dotted lines'.
