@dave r said: I believe there is a known bug related to this and I think the LO team is working on it. Until it gets fixed I would suggest using TIG's Section Cut Face instead of the Section Fill. [attachment=0:gsx0983f]<!-- ia0 -->Screenshot - 4_19_2018 , 10_27_54 AM.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:gsx0983f] Thanks for having a look at this Dave. I have historically used TIG’s section cut face (& still do w/more complex cuts)......but with the SU 2018 new section fill and this being a “simple” drawing I used that feature instead. Didn’t even occur to me to check that for being the cause........anyhow.......now I am aware......so thanks again for that. Charlie

For normal fonts fractions will be displayed horizontally as below. [image: vjuh_Screenshot-4_14_20186_32_30PM.png] I expect you could find or make a font that included a variety of glyphs for fractions such that the numbers are stacked vertically or diagonally but there isn't any facility currently for doing that directly in LayOut.

Hello All I re-visited this thread recently and would like to share what I have been doing in relation to hatches in Layout. This is very much experimentation but it may be of use to someone. Start in Photoshop with a new file. After a few tries with different size layers in Photoshop I went with a 1400px by 1400px transparent base layer and drew lines to form the hatching using the Path tools. These I believe are vector elements. I had an idea that if, instead of drawing the hatch lines themselves, I could fill the negative spaces with wide lines and leave the hatch lines as transparent spaces. The image is saved as a PNG. I formed just two (hatch) lines in the image as this was near the maximum that the Path line tool can cover (1000px max width of Path line). I'm no expert in Photoshop (or SU/Layout for that matter) so my explanation is probably lacking in detail. However, it does seem to me that the Path tools give a better/crisper line result even when zoomed. In Layout, the PNG can be loaded into the Pattern inspector tab. A solid fill is enabled in the Shape inspector and this is masked by the PNG. The colour of the shape fill is, therefore, visible through the transparency of the PNG. Thus the hatch can be any colour. The limitation with this method is the hatch lineweight is fixed by the PNG image although when zoomed the line does thicken. Attached is a version 2015 Layout file with three hatch pattern PNGs plus a PDF of the same. These are used at different scale factors and fill colours. Have a look and see what you think! PS Did anyone catch the Sketchup April Fool on Youtube? Worth a look! Hatch tests 02.layout Hatch tests 02.pdf

There's a lot more to that window than just setting the units and whether or not the units are displayed. You should check out the other buttons.

What the OP asked was not to label the section but the viewport that is displaying the section. Another thing that you cannot control is the opacity/color of the section plane, if you decide to show sections, or the linestyle and symbol of the section lines. All of these features you seek have been asked as feature requests before. I hope they make them happen.

Got an answer on the other forum to the import/file format questions. Still interested in hearing from anyone whose found a good source for standard AEC material patterns. For anybody looking for the same: https://forums.sketchup.com/t/how-to-import-pattern-fills-into-layout/64448

If it didn't update the viewport after clicking Update Model Reference or updating the reference in Document Setup>References, you've most likely modified the viewport so it is no longer connected to the scene. It would show the word 'modified' preceding the scene name in the SketchUp Model window. Modifying the scene in LO disconnects it from the original scene in SketchUp so a change to the SU scene shouldn't be expected to show in the viewport. This is one reason why I always harp on avoiding modifying scenes in LO.

They do and I pinged one of them in your other thread. I did find that you can export at a larger size if you enter the resolution instead of the width.

I had the same problem. In my case, I had the viewport grouped with another object and I was trying to create a clipping mask on the Group. Once I figured that out, I was able to go into the group, draw the shape in the group, select the viewport and the clipping mask I wanted, and things worked perfectly. Hope this helps. WG

Sorta glad to hear others have concerns about this. One bit of info I can add to this is: If you are not keenly aware of “in model dimensions”, I could easily see someone setting an incorrect dimension and not even knowing it is wrong because the dimension tool really referenced the edge of the viewport and not the model geometry. Since it doesn’t throw erroneous dimension.....IOW dimension to edge of viewport seems to maintain set scale of model viewport. (Wish I knew of safe .gif recorder so I could upload demonstration) Charlie

Thanks Dave, Sorted, thank for talking me through it. A simple case of that little handle snap tool being in the right spot, now I can grip away. Amazing how the smallest thing can give you the biggest headache.

I'm sorry Folks, especially Charlie, but I'm just not getting this. Al I want to do with about 6 diff scenes is export a dwg that's to correct scale for my client. Been working all day on this and no closer. I wish we could just figure out why I can't export correct scale dwgs right from SUp .. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=68904&p=629858#p629858

Remember, when you are looking at the Raster-rendered viewports on screen, you are probably using less than the maximum quality rendering. When you export to PDF, you can export at the high quality setting. Another thing to consider is stacking viewports for the same scene. You can render the top one as Vector and leave the bottom one as Raster. That will give you a combination of vector edges with only the back edges displayed as raster and it will allow you to maintain the dynamic link from the scenes so changes will show up automatically (as long as you don't make them modified in LO). don't stack the viewports on the same layer. Rather use two layers with the upper layer showing the vector rendered viewports.

Thanks again Dave. You've been a great help! Just in case you are curious. As to how the actual project turned out. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mw2mdlwzvdwj4s1/Hidden%20Door%202.mp4?dl=0 Now I need to finish my "Owners Manual". Chris Oh, and I'm glad I ended up in the "right" room!
