hi there, sorry for the late reply. check my examples and my corresponding questions to them the house dc... > how can i protect the "hidden" geometry necessary for it to funktion? i use plugins like ccleaner alot .. some option to protect stuff inside dcs would be welcome the skylights.. how can i add a secondary rotation function for the wing? and how to switch between the or cycle through them? the door... works as expected but when placing them i flip and scalethem with -1 alot.. then things start to "brake" im trying to get my head around this stuff .. simple things can be done quick and easy but once 2-3 parameters and "constraints" are introduced dcs are kind of messed up i hope someone has the time and patience to guide me along a bit... best, franz dynamic components.skp

I guess a good question is: is there a good dynamic component that kind of does this already that I can alter the components to hack and make it do what I'm asking? Again not sure about Ruby so I may be limited to the 3d warehouse. .

Unfortunately non of the physics extensions are compatible with SU 2019. Sounds like another good reason to switch to Blender;-)https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=69981

Hi mattw0711, it would probably be easiest if you attached the .skp file or some screenshots at least. It's just easier for people to understand exactly what your trying to achieve. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be too hard to do. There are some other posts on using OnClick animate on multiple objects & some example files to download as well. Here's the link to one. https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=69391 Not sure how relevant it is to what your trying to achieve. Cheers.

Components should be saved via right click context menu and "saveas" to appropriate folders on your computer, or 3D warehouse > share component, not as a file containing the component, otherwise the installed component will be a file with the component placed at the position in the file. You will find the reloaded component is the file with the component inside. [image: j57o_Capture2.JPG] Once a path is created to a folder, the swap DC should return to that point, you can change the default via window>preferences>files then change component location via the icon. [image: eOB7_Capture.jpg] There is a difference between reload and swap, in that attributes are not updated to the current so a steel beam length will not update to a timber beam length on a reload There maybe another issue, but without a model, can only guess

Thanks TIG, I will definitely have a look again. To be honest this is turning into a bit of a headache, all I'm trying to achieve is turning one thing a different colour and back, just thought if I gave it a go it would save me time in the long run. I'll give this another go in a day or so but for now I'm just going to have to do things the old fashioned way and make two of everything in different colours. This DC stuff has gotten me well and truly beaten for now. Thank you so much for commenting TIG, I really appreciate the help. Kind regards mitch7780

Thanks pcmoor, your a legend. I just checking it out now. Thanks for doing that. I do struggle with the DC functions. Once I have an example I'm usually right but they seem hard to find, & trying to work it out using the support documentation usually means I end up using trial & error, which tends to make a dog's breakfast of things:-) I managed to get the sleepers to copy on X axis yesterday by making own sub-component like you did, but then had issues getting my posts to copy to right spots & issues with post lengths not matching wall heights etc. I like how you calculated the REMAINDER. I like how your brain works, obviously a lot better than mine..lol. Cheers mate.

To update references on change of a global, one needs to do a "redraw" as per the context menu for each component, rather than do this manually, a simple ruby script can be attached to a button as per https://forums.sketchup.com/t/redraw-all-dynamic-components/77512 https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=ae_ToolbarEditor where else a component instance will update to the current global on insert. Can you share the main focus of your use of DCs? as its quite likely other scripts will be useful.

Thanks for the help. I will look through what you have done so I can see how to do it. I have to set up a rotation on the equipment knuckle. Getting Axis properly aligned has always been a fun problem for this component. Now I have an easy unit to modify in my models.

=_name returns the original component definition name, there is no instance name, I believe its part of a different definition set, you can see it when inspecting "drawing elements" [image: 5dHK_Capture.jpg] there is no DC way of getting the instance name, only viewing it in both the option dialog title and the attribute dialog header provided the name attribute is not used. [image: 7lf5_Capture2.JPG] however you could use a script sel = Sketchup.active_model.selection sel.grep(Sketchup;;ComponentInstance).each do |s| s.set_attribute "dynamic_attributes","aname",s.name $dc_observers.get_latest_class.redraw_with_undo(s) end I use toolbar editor to store and run such scripts. In that you can create a button and assign the script. You then include "aname" or an attribute of your choosing an create other formula / relationships for your data, reports....

For anyone interested I managed to solve it by myself. I had to set the attributes on the definition and transverse down one step like this: cdef.entities.first.set_attribute("dynamic_attributes", "A", a_rand)

Hi Lego! I encountered this limitation too! Try to add a *2.54 after LenX. This converts the LenX value (returned in inches) to cm!
