I've been wondering about a dynamic mannequin, too. I think you could use the SET function in an onclick event to cycle through a list of angles. But also, be able to select poses from a drop-down list at the same time. I'll try to make a simplified example as a test. To get this to work, I'm assuming a fairly deep nesting may be needed. I already have some code that saves/restores DC attributes to a texttext file. Do you have a model made already to play around with?

That's strange because mine works well. I suppose I didn't upload the right one. Don't know, so the joined one works well, I verified "H Porte" as you said and other parameters. And in fact, according to my tests, changing origin can make the things not working if you change origin after having writen the formulas but if you do it before, there is no problem. All positions or rotations modifications are done relatively to the origin so, it's position shouldn't be important. Porte intérieure dynamique.skp

Hello, I think that SketchyPhysics is really much designed to do that. Have a look at my model (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=d307649663ad9dd982b31e1c15ea174c&prevstart=0), to see how it works.

The collection of Marvin Windows on the Warehouse which are dynamic components are the best example of a successfully created DC's which make it easier and quicker for the end user to model. These DC dialog gives you the ability to quickly change the window size, exterior and interior color as well as with the interact tool you can open and close the windows. Some brain power must have went into the creation of these dynamic components. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/cldetails?clid=8fde3dec8eecb0146ae2ac309aeb01eb

As Philip says. Once you attach a dimension to the object it will change dynamically as you scale, which I think is what you are asking for?

Hi John, Thank you very much for looking into this issue. If I'm understanding you correctly, the DC re-sizing works for you on your Mac (yet still gives the Ruby Console error)? That's really interesting if that's the case. After many hours of re-drawing the same door frame over and over again, I decided to slowly replace parts from my test shelves to try to figure out at what point the DC stopped working correctly. As soon as I modified the Parent name from my working shelves, I noticed that the re-size stopped working, and then it hit me...I've been using the same name for every component and sub-component, even after re-drawing everything multiple times! As it turns out, the use of an ampersand (&) in the Parent name caused the re-size references to stop working correctly. It makes complete sense now that I think about it (I'm not a programmer, but I have had a little bit of exposure every now and then); I just wish I had known about this sooner...it could have saved me 6 hours or so This is probably really obvious to anyone who is well versed in DCs, but I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere in the Sketchup documents. I'm guessing that there is a list of forbidden characters somewhere, but I've obviously missed it. I attached the completed door frame, so hopefully my experience can save someone else from the frustration that I just endured Kris dynamic components_door frame resize_test 003.skp

@tig said: It is known that SketchyPhysics is implicated in ill-advisedly messing with some native base classes like 'Group', but I've never heard of it messing with DCs before Other 'rogue tools' include DrivingDimensions, SunPosition, Matchbox and some versions of Podium... I can now confirm that SketchyPhysics3 caused the problem. The problem was corrected after removing the sketchyphysics.rb and sketchysolids.rb files from the SU plugins directory on two different machines and operating systems: TOSHIBA TECRA, WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL SP3, 32 BITS APPLE PRO 8 NUCLEI, WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL, 64 BITS (BOOTCAMP INSTALLATION) I hope this may be useful if someone runs into the same problem.

Right, this model was intended to be imported into a model. If the model was downloaded, use File > Import to add the component to the model.

@buckyman said: Hi again Jim SU does not like rounding in .125" increments, it jumps in higher amounts (usually .5" is the min increment I get) despite zooming in to try to get more control. How does it behave at your end? Regards Yeah, the scaling works for me, although it can be hard to control especially when scaling "freely" without using any reference geometry to snap to. Are your units set to less precision than 1/8"? If so and you are using Dimensions, the dimensions will round to the precision settings even if the actual height is rounded to 1/8"

@snowy said: well im learning DC myself atm, but if im correct u need place the colors straight into ur DC. Like the DC car below they solve it with hidden balls, but u can also make some small squares and give those the textures u want. Place them into ur component on a place where it's out of sight. (like really small squares 1x1 mm) like i told im learning it myself so might forget some important info but hope this will help. Thanks, will try that

@unknownuser said: @troypiggo said: I also downgraded Safari as was suggested in another thread, but the black text boxes are still there. are you sure you downgraded safari? if you click on the Safari menu then choose 'About Safari', what does it say for the version #? i'm assuming 5.1.7 still. you can't just grab an old installer and run it normally and expect it to downgrade.. you'll have to use another app called Pacifist to open the .dmg then choose 'replace' at the prompts when installing.. (better pacifist instructions are out there.. on my way to catch a plane at the moment so i can't be entirely helpful) Aah, you're quite right. It hadn't downgraded successfully. I missed the requirement to force it using Pacifist. Done now, downgraded, and all looks good so far. Thanks so much for the tip.

I right clicked and used "save as" just as you suggested and it worked perfectly. Interesting nuance that, but I suppose it's saving out only the component and not the "World wrapper" and any other strays floating around. Many thanks for your help!!
