Cycles is slow compared to Thea. What is super flexible about Cycles though is the Integrator. Instead having say 10 samples per material you can define the samples for each attribute. Got a highly glossy scene? Then up the glossy samples. Or need more definition in the shadows then bump up its samples. No need to have global samples constantly extending render times. Target what needs baking. I'm not advocating that you drop SU but I do think Blender makes you a better modeler because it forces you to reteach yourself and lose the typical SU approach. I now model in SU completely different because of Blender. Plus, I have a very solid pipeline in exporting and importing that respects Blender quads and SU quads. What would make my day in SU is faster imports. Waiting 10mins for something to import is unacceptable. That and the fact that it's exporters consistently fail to export is another major problem. Your recent PM file is a classic example of that.

@ken28875 said: Very cool design, Hector. I see a lot of this type of houses around here. I'd love to see what the interior is like. Was it done for fun or was it a real project? Best, _KN It was done for fun...I love these houses and the clever use of space, my best friend in San Francisco lives in a row house and from the 1950s and the use of space is very clever. Serrot

@box said: You can scale to exact measurements, for example, start scaling a 1m cube in one direction and type 367mm and hit enter, the cube will then be 1m,1m,367mm That's a "Duh" for me. Thanks

@chedda said: Yeah great, brings back memories of that Flash Gordon ship the noise the dodgy effects and smoke trail. I suppose this is one case when you didn't want to smooth the geometry. I did smooth the geometry, but something between SketchUp and Maxwell wouldn't translate. I've since learned the solution is simply to have a curve with more facets or sides. The main body on the Flash Gordon ship was done with 120 sides. For a large surface and a tight radius that's not good enough. Even 180 sides will show facets. However, doing a large cylinder or saucer like object with 360 sides will work.

The render is outstanding ! I feel there is something missing, the back of the house is too bright, shouldn't there be some shadows over the fence and over the big tree ?

I would also take the ceiling lighting down about 60% and see what the space would look like. I think you will like the results.

Thanks for your comments @notareal said: Interesting watch... now animate those ball-bearings great idea...except that's definitely over my skills I copied the band texture from the reference pictures (http://www.eone-time.com/images/clock-stop-motion.jpg) adjusted a bit to make it seamless and applied as displacement map on Thea default scratched metal material (bump map for the animation, since Presto doesn't support displacement mapping yet)
