Are you saying you import the images in psd format? Well anyway, I would suggest to explode the image if you are importing as an image. SketchUp will create a face (true geometry with the four edges enclosing it) which you can turn into a face-me component quite easily. Below is a short video how to do it (it's a Roman soldier but trees work the same way) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvI6A7Njw4k

See EarthMover´s tutorial here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=21379&hilit=plugin&start=30 Subdivide and smooth (now Artisan) http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=34868&hilit=plugin can also be used to achieve such results, but it will take some playing with to understand how to create proxy's.

hi dave thanks for your input, much appreciated does the attached provide you with the information that you require? reading left to right; 1 + 2 are system info, 3 is SketchUp info - do I need to make changes to the latter? have checked drivers + all up-to-date I'm afraid I can't find anything about OpenGL support in Start > Settings > Display... Thanks but I cannot open any of the templates. I have tried reinstalling but it makes no difference.

I think if you could make the exports somewhat larger than they'll get viewed at, you'll be fine. It can be disconcerting when you look at images close up. i used to run into that a lot in the photography business. People would look at enlargements as if they were small prints and complain they weren't sharp. When they looked at them under normal viewing conditions, everything was alright. I hope you can make something work.

It is a matter of preference - like the lens you choose when you take photographs. 35 degrees is equivalent to a short telephoto or a "portrait" lens, and if you prefer a more wideangle effect you can choose something at about 60 degrees. In SketchUp the angle is measured vertically, so on a normal horizontal monitor, the appearance is always somewhat more wideangled than in a standard camera lens, where the angle is measured diagonally across the picture frame. Check your axes are set to the original axes. Perhaps you have modeled upside down ?

Dave beat me to it! BUT here it is anyway... The 'z-fighting' when two materials 'twinkle' is caused when you have two coplanar [or near coplanar] faces . So you seem to have some 'walls' with two [or more] faces Check if you have coincident groups/instances giving you two faces overlaid... Some windows are cutting faces OK BUT others are not! Have you some groups/components and other groups/components or faces overlaying them? Also it looks like you have applied windows onto faces that are inside groups/component... so although it might 'glue', it will NOT 'cut' a hole - therefore the window's 'glass' will z-fight with the wall face that is inside its group. If it is a gluing component, but it is not 'cutting type', then it will z-fight even if the face and component are in the same 'entities context'. So, always apply a gluing+cutting-component onto the face that is in the same 'context' [i.e. edit the group/instance and then insert/glue the windows on faces inside it - the windows will then cut holes in the faces they are glued onto].[image: MJJk_Capture.PNG]

Many thanks, jgb. Don't suppose you can help with the 'filleting' question? @jgb said: spogadog asked: Also, how do you DE-select unwanted lines/faces from an area you have clicked and dragged out for, say, re-scaling? Use the Select pointer/tool but hold both SHIFT and CTRL keys down as you click on unwanted lines or objects. Using only CTRL adds items to selection set, just SHIFT toggles items in selection set.

I would not bother myself with that sentence. It is what it is meant for: a "suggestion" or a "description" of the product - maybe more exactly the intent or the idea of the creators when separating the two. "Suggestion" and "recommendation" are not legal terms (well this latter one has some EU usage but only for governments). It was disallowe to use SU Free (beta) when it came out with version 5 right after Google acquired SU. Then it was explicitely allowed during SU 6 and this explicit sentence was removed when SU 7 (and the new SU Google site) came out (so not with SU 8 that was just - or rather EXACTLY - a year ago).

[UPDATE] I developed a solution I found for this into a plugin, released at the following thread: [Plugin] Set Arc and Circle Defaults
