Also be aware that edits can break a curve apart into individual segments, losing its original identity as a single curve. In that situation pushpull will generate unsoftened edges from each segment end. You can use the eraser tool to soften them afterward.

FWIW, TIG has written an extension that will parse through a model file and correct the tagging for all edges and faces back to Untagged. It's called Default Layer Geometry and despite the word Layer used in it, it does work in 2020 with tags as well.

Loops will stop at forks, where there is too many possible paths to be able to determine where it should go.
