New update is great. Thanks TIG

RE: [Plugin] SketchUcation Tools
@TIG I'm happy to test it as well if needed. Thanks TIG

RE: [Plugin] SketchUcation Tools
I think I also noticing that if I enable a plugin through the SketchUcation manager, close SketchUp and restart, SketchUp will hard crash the first time it starts up and loads that plugin. If I start SketchUp again, no problems and the plugin loads.

I am looking at the causes and a fix...
It's almost like SketchUp now prevent you from activating just some extensions/plugins on the fly...Bummer. Hopefully something that can be fixed. This was one of my favorite features. Disabling a ton of the less-used extensions and loading them as needed was such a powerful tool.

RE: [Plugin] SketchUcation Tools
SketchUcation Tools in 2023 used to load the plungin right away when I enabled it from the disabled menu. I had to restart 2024 now. Am I missing something?

RE: Modeling sidewalk detail on terrain
Interesting. I cant say I have played with Flowify yet. I well take a look. Thanks!

Kinda hard to offer advice without visuals but ToolsOnSurface and JPP would spring to mind for scoring/panelling.
Bevelling depends on mesh density. I find the outcome relies on the source mesh topology. If your dealing with a messy terrain mesh then bevelling will be challenging. Does your render app support bevelling via a shader?
My typical workflow is to gather the topo information either from importing through SketchUp's add location (not ideal, but if it is all I have, then it is what it is). Or I will get a mess of a file from the civil engineers. I take the messy terrain mesh and use Vali Terrain to create a simplified clean mesh over that, usually using 25' spacing on large sites and less on smaller sites.
Then I get a clean 2D site plan import or drawn into SketchUp, hovering over the mesh. I save the mesh as a component before I make any cuts because changes WILL happen. I make the roadway and sidewalk cuts using drape (doesn't always work perfectly) and then I use JPP to give the roads some depth and create the curb line.
Now, here is where I would like to get more detailing into my model... I draw sidewalk scoring lines on my 2D plan and drape those on the 3D sidewalks and I am looking for a fast way turn those lines into a groove. Mainly I want to do this so I can use a dirt map in VRay to give the sidewalk some realism.

Modeling sidewalk detail on terrain
Does anyone have advice on how you would model the scoring detail on a sidewalk that is on a terrain? Any plugins that would make quick work of adding a bevel on a mesh surface?

right on, so what file type do I export?
Just send them a cleaned up version of your SketchUp model. Lumion supports SKP format.

RE: Can be something like this rendered using image?
It's best to just model it. I would never use displacement in this manner. There are plug-ins that could help with the modeling pretty quickly I bet.

RE: [Plugin] SketchUcation Tools
This plugin is being blocked by our Sonic Wall due to being behind an IP in Russia. I've used this extension for years and never had this issue. Did something change recently?

My firm is looking for a SketchUp Pro
I am the Director of Visualization at a mid-size architecture firm in Providence Rhode Island. We are looking for a talented SketchUp designer/visualization artist.
Take a look at the posting at CG Architect below.

Entourage Arts - Where are they now?
Do you guys remember Entourage Arts? They had some great hand-rendered clip entourage that they sold as sets and individual files. I am wondering if they are still hanging around these forums. I have scoured the internet to see if their stuff is still for sale but it doesn't seem so.

RE: [Plugin] MaterialConsolidator
Is it possible to get some kind of progress bar with this plugin? I usually use it toward the end of a project, where I have imported a bunch of components and have a lot of materials. I ran this yesterday and I wasn't sure if SketchUp had crashed or it was still working. I let it sit overnight and it was just working away. It would be nice to know how far it has to go. Thomthoms Cleanup does a great job of doing this.

Bring back randomization
Can we bring back random divisions to FlexWindow? Luckily, I still have an old FlexWindow 2.1.01 saved out. Am I the only one who loved using this to create storefronts?

Thanks. It's The Boundary indeed. Sadly you can't find it on their website.
Interesting thing is that on CG Architect, in their latest article, when the Boundary lists all he software tools they use, SketchUp is not on the list.

RE: Importing 3d model
The coloration of the chair is probably setup as a refractive material in the Max file. This will not come into SketchUp, so the above texture is a clever trick.

RE: Can't seem to create surfaces after draping linework on topo
This issue happens can you import CAD files and drape them. It's always been a bug and it lingers still. I would recommend using EdgeTools and clean up any little bits and shards in your CAD file. Then you can try also running it on your topo after draping. This doesnt always work but it gets a good amount of unclean cuts. You can also bet that arcs tend to have this issue when draping. To find the culprit, I turn on hidden and start painting my areas, you will eventually find where the bleeder is and fix the teeny-tiny edge that did not cut cleanly.
Also try Fredo's Edge Inspector.

RE: Sorting Plugins in Menu
For years I have requested a way to have saved work spaces in SketchUp. This could even include customized Menu items, that way you have categorized your plugins. Send Trimble an email and make this a priority for them!

RE: Rendered Walkthrough
VRay cloud is very nicely integrated and easy to use but I thought that I read that you can find cheaper farms out there. The price tag of Enscape will pay for itself with one animation job. Not pushing Enscape down your throat but we have all been there with V-Ray and Enscape is just damn fast and easy.
