      Hi Simon,

I'm not sure what you want either. If you want to display an SU model, you can put models into a Google Earth window inside your web page. Once there you can use the GE Navigation Controls to move around the model in 3D. Have a look at the topic below: Google Earth Plugin at http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=11115&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a.

If that's what you're looking for, you can see a sample of this at: http://www.twharvey.talktalk.net/index.htm

      Good luck,
      Tom

I've already seen your example, Tom, though there seems to be two additions now (that log house and the barn?). Really nice and exciting experiments!

I also looked at the documentation and figured out that you need to register somehow to get a "key" or something. Please, confirm this or correct me if I'm wrong.
Though I myself am not a javascript coder either (though have played around with some already), the script created seems to be quite self explanatory and not too hard to understand.

      Gaieus,

Yeah, it's about done now. I've put in a couple of more buildings and (a first for me) some low-poly trees.

In order to imbed the GE Plugin into a web page, you do need to get a Key from Google ( http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html ). Once you've got the Key, it can be used in other web pages on the same site. Also, you can have as many free keys as you need for different web sites.

The coding is not to difficult once you get a feel for the JavaScript language and a bit of help from the Plugin discussion page.

      Hi Eric,

I'm not a programer and that's a problem with this plugin. It's only about a month old and the documentation is pretty confusing. I did a lot of copying and pasting and asking for help on the plugin discussion page before I got it working. If you already know JavaScript, it should be a lot easier. Thank goodness I have a good local library.

    • Google Earth Plugin

      Hi all,

I thought some of you might be interested in the GE Plugin. I case you haven't heard, it lets you imbed a small version of GE in any web page. Then you can didsplay geo-located models from 3DWarehouse in situ in GE. I think this might have great commercial application. Sampl that I'm working on:

P.S> Gaius, It's supposed to work in FF3 now.

These shots look cool. Where are the controls in GE to do shadows, clouds, etc.? I looked but couldn't find them.

    • Revised GE Models

I think this came up before, but I can't think of a good search term...

I've recently made some improvements to models that were alsready in the GE Buildings layer. I've up;oaded the improved versions (v. 1.2?) to 3DW. Is there any way to let Google personel know about these changes so that the newer version can be the one in GE?

      Thanks for any help,
      Tom

Have you guys seen the new API to incorporate GE into web sites. This is pretty cool. And it seems to load faster than the standalone GE.

      http://code.google.com/apis/earth/

And here's an example I'm working on.

      Hi Matt,

I don't know if this is what you have, but... Sometimes when you use the tape measure tool and move it while holding the left mouse button SU draws guide lines. If that's what's happening, you can get rid of them in the Edit Menu - Delete Guides.

      Hi Silver,

I followed your directions above and, after some fooling around, was able to duplicate your cobbles paved on a contoured surface. I did notice a couple of things to keep in mind for future projects: 1. The amplitude of the curved surface can't be very big (difference between high and low points) or the cobbles fall off. 2. The distance between the substrate and the cobbles must be minimized or the cobbles bounce when they hit and end up all over the place.

      Thanks for the tut,
      Tom

    • RE: Wards GoogleEarth models

      EduardoNL,

I've found that the stock textures that come in SU materials don't look very realistic and they get worse when they are tiled over a big area like your last building. I think it was Remus who pointed me to a really useful texture site (http://www.cgtextures.com/). For roofs and walls this is great. Also, I've begun to make up a libray of my own photo textures that I can use on different buildings.

The other thing is to spend some time messing with the seamless tiling feature on you photo-editor to get the right effect for big areas. The issue is not that the texture IS acurate, it's that it LOOKs acurate.

I mean, can i insert my house in GoogleEarth?
      Thanks

      Maverick,

Yes, you can put your house, or any other geo-tagged model in GE either from 3DW by hitting the View in GoogleEarth link or from your own HD by opening the KMZ file in GE.

The difference is that, in either case, the model will only be visable on your own copy of GE. If you want it to be availabel to everybody on GE, you have to wait for Google's mysterious process to work itself out.

I have some strong oppinions about the way Google supports the modelers.

I cant help bu think that some of the people/organizations are taking the whole thing a little too seriously.

      Hi Remus,

Yeah, HaHaHa is probably the right response. On the other hand, as an American living in the UK for the last twenty odd years, I find this kind of thing more than a little embarassing. If the regualrs in my local read this crap ("...liberal worldwide view" -- What's that when it's at home?)i'd never hear the end of it.

Anyway, thanks for bringing this up.

      Best,

I'd say make a quarter of the bowl, texture that, make it a component, rotate copy 3 more times to complete the bowl. You'll have to toy a little with the texture to get it to "tile" or you could play with the texture in PS.
I tried that and it worked pretty well. Thanks again, JuJU,
      Tom
