    • RE: Google Earth models, my city Bergen op Zoom

      Hi Eduardo,

I think this is great! I have a similar project modeling the centre of the town where I live: Leominster (pronounced Lem-ster) Herefordshire, England. Here's the collection so far:
      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/cldetails?mid=694bdaf197e2aec7bac8d19b776df429

I like the idea that modelers are doing more than the big, well known world cities.

      Good work!

      Simone, & Gaeius,

      Whee Ha!!!!

Adding SU7 to the XP firewall exceptions list seems to have worked. I'm back in business again.

      Thanks for all your help,

      Simone,

Thanks for the advice. It worked!!!

I'm Using XP Pro. I'm reluctant to leave the firewall turned off all the time. So, I've added SU7 to the exceptions list on the XP firewall. 'll see if that works.

      Thanks again,
      Tom

This morning, I tried the following: Reset IE Security to default settings - still the same.

I also checked that I can download models from 3DWH - no problem.

FYI: I'm running SU7 under WinXP Pro and IE7.

      Gaeius,

OK, I found the "G" button (it was off the bottom of the screen. And, yes, I'm logged in.

    • RE: GE/SU forum

      Hi Alpmeadow,

I think this would be agood idea. My interest is in making models for GE. I find the discussions of organic modeling, rendering, architechture, etc. interesting, but they don't relate directly to my area of particular interest.

I've already suggested to Google that the 3DWH should have a seperate catagory only for GE models (and those aimed at GE.)

    • RE: Uploading models to 3DWH from SU7

I just tried the following work-around:

I saved the model from SU7 as an SU6 file, then opened the model in SU6 and tried to upload it from SU6 to 3DWH.

      Same result.

    • Uploading models to 3DWH from SU7

      Hi all,

A few days ago, I installed SU7 and started work on a model that was to replace one already in 3DWH. When I finished the model and tried to upload it to 3DWH, the upload button on the upload page was "grayed" out (inactive) so I couldn't upload the model.

Does this program need to be registered or do I need to do something else?

      Help!

Thanks Gaeius. By the way, I like SU7; it seems a lot faster than SU6 especilly with big files.

P.s. I wanted to let you know that I just spen 5 weeks in Montana at the ranch that I've been building for GE. While I was there the last of the models appeared in GE. Everybody was pleased! Thanks for your help in this process.

    • Saving flies in SU7

      Hi all,

I've got a question about SU7... When I load a model in SU7 that I originally saved in SU6, I get a message that if I save it SU7, I won't be able to open it again in SU6. OK, but, in 3DWH the download options do not include SU7. Does this mean that models saved in SU7 can't be accessed by others fom 3DWH? πŸ˜•

      Thanks,
      Tom

    • RE: GE to Sketchup to GE problem

      Hi Billy,

There are a couple of other issues around the terrain from GE: the Snapshot is a more accurate picture of the area looking straight down, but the elevations is flat with the average elevation of the terrain. The two immages intersect at the center of the image in GE. So, half of the Snapshot is above the Terrain and half below.

You can always build a "platform" in the Sandbox a little above the terrain and place your building on this. At the same time that you download the current image from GE to SU, save the view in GE as a JPG file then import his onto your Sanpshot image. If you texture the platform from the colored Snapshot, it should blend in the the terrain and show up well in GE.

    • RE: Stonehenge Revisited

      Thanks, Pilou,

I tried the Ruby on a couple of the stones in the model and it looks like it will work pretty well. I may have to experiment a bit to get it just right.

      Thanks again,

    • Stonehenge Revisited

      Hi all,

Some of you may remeber my Stonehenge project from some months ago. We had a lot of fun with it at the time.

It has recently been rejected by Google for inclusion in the Buildings layer of GE because it's "too complex." My question is: is there a method or script that can reduce the poly-count of organic models/objects? Or do I need to just do ths by hand?

I used Subdivide/Smooth t build the stones in the first place. They look OK but have a lot of faces.

      Thanks for any ideas,
      Tom

    • RE: How do you evenly space guide points

I'm not sure what your situation is, but...

I often use the Line Divide feature to get equal segments. Draw a line the length you want. Right click on it and choose Divide. As you move the cursur back and forth on the line, it is divided into any number of equal segments. A convenient little window tells you how many segment and the length of each one.

If it's not convenient to use an edge in the model, draw a new line parrallel to the one in question with end points matching the model and divide that one. Then you can draw perpendiculars to the construction line to get the model edge divided. When done erase the construction lines.

      Good luck,
      Tom
