@tasman said: Hi Tim I note you are using a Mac. I am having the same trouble, login OK through web browser, and can download etc. but unable to upload as SU does not make the connection. I think this is a Mac specific problem, and I too would like to see it fixed if anybody has any ideas. Tasman My problem has been resolved. I believe it was a proxy issue with our servers. I was always able to download models via access to the warehouse by SketchUp. I wasn't able to upload models. All is well now.

@chris fullmer said: It might have to do with HOW you uploaded it. You need to right click on the component, then choose "Save As" and save it somewhere. Then find that file and open it. Then upload it the warehouse like that. Then it will be uploaded as a DC. Chris It was the "Save As" step that I missed. All is working fine now. Thanks!

@gaieus said: Cool, I wasn't sure if I got the problem right. A couple of further tips/info: When you just hide the edges, they will still separate the facets i.e. you can select them individually and the whole surface will look faceted. With softening the edges, you'll end up with a curved surface which is still made up of these facets but SU displays it as one, smooth area. The only place it is obvious that it's also made up of these facets is the edges/sides of these surfaces (say the top and bottom of a cylinder). You can manually hide edges by using the Shift + Eraser tool and soften them with the Ctrl+Eraser tool. Smooth surfaces cannot be PushPulled, the texture cannot be positioned on them and some other limitations also apply. You can however reveal the dividing edges (and perform some of these operations) by going to View > Hidden geometry (it will also reveal other hidden things, not only softened edges). Etc. etc... Now that you mention it, I do remember the trick with the eraser. I just had not thought of the smoothing as a solution. Thanks again for the tip.

As far as the behavior when that box is unchecked. It has to do with how SU and Layout deal with field of view when the aspect ratio of display changes. It pays attention to the vertical field of view and tries to maintain that. So if you print from SU to letter in landscape vs. Tabloid in landscape you get the same vertical coverage, you just get more model on the sides for the tabloid print. Similar in Layout. If you widen the view no changes are required to maintain the vertical field of view. While if you make it bigger vertically it needs to adjust the mode. Same thing will happen if you drag a corner diagonally (unless in doing this you make the aspect ratio wider vs. taller)

I came across this yesterday when I exported my model to Illustrator for editing. When I selected individual segments to change the stroke size, other segments were also altered. I was using the direct selection tool which should have isolated the segment I wanted to change. It seems that when an image from SU is exported it is comprised of compound paths and groups. The way to make the image behave like it should in Illustrator is to do the following. Select the entire image (select all). Under Object, select Compound Path and Release. Again select all and under Object again select Ungroup. Now every segment is isolated and can be edited without effecting any other one. This will also allow you to group together segments in a way you want. I don’t know how many will find this useful but it will work if you need to export to Illustrator. Have a great holiday weekend. Hi BigStick, I don't use a HackMac. I was just mentioning the article that I read on the subject. As I understand it, Mac OX is not to be used on anything other than Apple hardware as per the Conditions of Use. I completly understand your thinking on the subject. Apple ALSO switched! They moved to Intel chips. I imagine one of the reasons for doing this was to bring in the fence sitters, I was one. They seriously cannot expect people that cannot afford to spend the extra 30 - 50% on an original Mac to stay away from Mac OSX! IMO, technically there would be no theft involved but again Terms of Conditions / Use are there! I fail to see how they can do anything about it except maybe in the auto updates area. If Apple opened the doors back in the '80s we might all be using Macs or Mac Compatibles now ..... maybe Mike

T An added thought to Paul's comment is what we call a "certified model." IOW, we stamp the model file exactly like a set of dwgs for const. This means I guarantee its accuracy and assume full responsibility for its representation as a virtual construction (as a lic arch). Risky, but a lot less risky than a RW bldg and usually blows away the opposing counsel (client/commissioners/arch.. because of the sequential representation of a detail or complex assembly. BTW also very well compensated by our clients. SkUp has the power to be as detailed as any other 3D modeler, but much faster on its feet in a presentation when carefully org'd. Our model files regularly exceed 300mb and must be able to open and operate serendipitously from a laptop/projector in an open public forum (usually a tense place to stutter...) Import is to make sure you have good tech, solid info, and doc ea step of the virtual const w/ a solid paper trail. /D

Thanks for all of the good suggestions/comments. I have used a few ruby scripts but for nothing like what has been suggested. It's good to know SU can accomplish this task, however I might choose. I haven't had a call for models like this. I'll need to find some tutorials on curved faces and using ruby scripts. Thanks again. Tim

Alpha 3 is being tested internally, but there is lots of work to do. I can't elaborate on timescale though I'm afraid.
