    • RE: Forums' Future ?

This is a delayed response and slightly off topic (now..;-), but I wanted to clarify my earlier post about the “mutiny” of sorts I suggested with G-SkUp and this forum.

My thought was that most of what is really valuable about SkUp comes from the original core code in the very earliest versions of SkUp plus the plug-ins and adjunct programs produced by third party providers. We’ve even tweaked SkUp for our purposes with plugin overlays to this code – thanks to Brad Schell’s farewell gift to his users with V5 updates before the @Last departure -- and we're admitted light-weights compared to some of you guys....

When you think about it, that code sits as a virtual open source and is exactly what Google and Trimble find so valuable -- and paid handsomely for (see Trimble SkUp? Good Enf, < http://insitebuilders.wordpress.com > )

    • RE: Forums' Future ?

So... crawling out of my cave to find out what is going on in the real world, I just spent a couple of hours reading the "A New Home..." thread and this one in a feeble attempt to catchup (get it..😉 on the future of SU as the dust settles....

I wonder though, coming late to the conversation, is it possible that the Sketchucation community could stage a mutiny of sorts? Taking over the "Free" version of SU, organizing its plug ins, help desk (this forum), and moving the entire "Free" version to a kind of ad hoc, open source platform -- which IMHO it already is (at least for construction modeling).

It seems to me that the heart of this community has always been SketchUcation. It might be time for the "Mayor" to simply move to a new role as "Chief" (R'O of course remains as Scribe) and for all you geniuses to form a council of "elders" to simply continue to offer what you already and have always done -- giving SU and Big G it's heart and soul...

IMHO, this forum is the ideal place to stage such a coup, with advertising and plugin licenses it seems to already be self-sustaining, at least it has been for us. Besides, I'm not sure what Trimble SU could bring to this community that the average user could afford (Trimble'$ $pecialized tool$).

Insitebuilders, for one, could live without Trimble, but it would be very difficult to for any of us without all of you...

      That's hilarious....😉

We figured a fix tho. Docked the M90 to a hi'r-rez monitor and then tweaked it to max rez and lo and behold we could grab the edge and resize. Not sure how it happened, but now I thk I may have to drag the stationary monitor around -- just in case....😉

      Thx again

Oddly the context click and the resize edge grab techniques don't work any more either. I also changed screen rez and tried grabbing the edge there, but also no joy.

Funny that the working window and menu bars still float, so does the Outliner dialog window, so it's just the remaining dialog boxes, which I usually bind together on the right hand side.

If you two haven't seen this b4, now I'm worried...😉

Can't seem to find anythg on this problem on the forum.

For some reason all my dialog box windows (Shadow, Components, Materials, Styles, etc) have set themselves to the full width of my Dell M90 monitor and I can't get them to return to their normal floating positions. Tried reinstalling the new upgrade, no help there. Any one out there know how to fix this problem...?

Appreciate any insights -- so to speak...

      Thx again

Thanks Gaieus (tough name for me to spell 😉 )

So I guess that means it's OK to just give the reinstall a try w/o all the techie stuff Jackson was listing...? I'll give it a try tomorrow -- what the heck.

Pls let us know when you know the bugs are gone....

      Thx again

      .
So, I keep getting Orbit crashes as well as hitting other "bugs" and now I find the new version will not load some of our larger files (150mb +). That and other probs mean we've also voted to bail out of 7.1 and return to 7.0 (7.0 download date 4/13/09). Never again...tho I've said that b4.

Is the Jackson-Method easier to do if I'm not using V-Ray and only want to save the plain old shortcuts and settings...? Components are already in separate HD files.

IOW, can I just save the Goog 7 folder, do the uninstall for 7.1, and reinstall 7.0

      OR

do we need this registry tools CCleaner and Registry Mechanic (which sounds tricky...) to do a simpler uninstall and reinstall?

Any one try a simple switch back? Do you thk there'll be other issues?... 😞

      Thx for any advice.

    • Selecting Hidden Groups in the Outliner

      Say, not sure if I'm missing somethg w/ V7.1.48*, b/c I can't find a thread on this.

One used to be able to select a hidden group in the Outliner and everythg not hidden in that group would become temporarily (ghostedly) visible while selected. It's was handy just to quickly see the position of hidden assemblies.

Now, nothing shows for me except the shadow of that hidden group. Which is not too helpful. IOW, no ghosted outline...(but its shadow)

Is there a fix to this? Or is it just my machine. Like a lot of thgs: never miss it until it's gone.
