    • Is there a face me component tutorial thread?

      Hello Sketchie Folks,

Im wondering if there is a thread here on how to make face me components. I used to download jpeg trees and trace each so I can make like a realistic or watercolored tree as a regular component for my personal library....

The problem is, it wouldnt act as a face me component. Its just there like a model (which it is) but i still have to rotate it whenever I chose a view to export it.

If there is a thread or tutorial, is everyone ok to pitch in components and make a library inside SCF? I know some would have to share hard earned talent but woulndt this do more good than harm?

If someone would teach or guide someone else how to do it, maybe we got a whole lot of quality components right for everyone to enjoy eh?

Id like to know everyones comments and reaction on this if it is possible. But bottomline if privacy, protection and property rights is someones concern, I do respect it in everyway.

      Thanks again.

      Pete,

nice hut....yeah thats the one.....how did you do it for sketchup? or do we need render engines to amplify (or bump) the texture so it would look realistic and not flat?

      howdee sketchup gang,

does anyone have any idea how to make split ends for a nipa hut or simply just a hut using coconut leaves or long strand hays as materials for the roof?

      thanks in advance.

I made the fence smaller so i can get a better view....

I just pushed the fence down so it looked the way it is right now. I wouldnt see anything if the fence was high....

    • RE: Lights Please

Sorry for the mix up guys.

The crub right there in the front is actually a fence. Fences right here in the Philippines tend to be really high, but Im not in the position to really negotiate to put it down like picket fences. Almost all of my clients would like to have privacy from the outside, cant disagree.

      To Daniel:

Thanks for the suggestion, im not really good at this but id try to make things one at a time if i have time to spare like weekends, but its so hard nowadays since i have my hands full covering several projects on my own and going to the construction site to see how things are going. Plus I have a pregnant wife due on march......

      To Sepo:

Im not really sure if its squarish or is it just the demo that only brings a small images. But looking closer I feel that Im just started using 3d in autocad and rendering it without shadows or anything. Im not good at 3d rendering I must admit, but Im working things out because I can make architectural models and I feel that its inefficient for me to present it if I cant make this realistic or near realistic.

    • RE: What's your beginners tip?

Erase all the centerlines that was been used for autocad before importing.

Instead of using multiple curves, try to make points so you wouln't forget drawing the arc itself in sketchup as curves inn autocad almost seem to fail connecting in one of its ends.

For fast modeling try to just use the exterior wall lines, use the windowizer for the doors and windows, its easier and faster when you're in a hurry.

Enjoy every bit of it modeling.

    • RE: Lights Please

Its actually a 6meter driveway but id rather show the car parking it rear first as it would actually be easier to drive around.

its vray. but i only loaded one of its files an here it is.

      but hold on solo,

hows the new SU Podium, I was waiting for it to come out and hear some more feedbacks and reviews, but I guess you're the most qualified to speak about it..... well comparing ofcourse to the previous SU podium.

Ive tried the previous demo but i couldnt make things softer as it turns out to be very squarish....

Thanks in advance for the suggestions and comments.

    • What? No DWG exporting capability?

      Im kinda puzzled.

First I admired Sketchup7 because glitches and bugsplat haven't happened here in my laptop and in any of my desktops around.

But when I need my model to be exported to dwg from skp, i was shocked to see that it has no capabilities to do this? What gives?

Does anyone has any idea what happened?

Im now having a second thought of uninstalling 7 and returning back to the old sketchups.

    • RE: To sli or not to sli

I know that CPU is important also, but I also know that video card is as important if I want to look around a high complex sketchup model 32mb or more in size. Years back I made a jump from 32mb vc to 128mb running in an athlon xp 2000 and 1.5gb ram. It felt like a more breathing room back then.

I have an athlon64 6000 x2 right now because it is useless to have a nice vc when your processor is being left behind.

      to anssi,

i like your point about opengl not working in SLI mode maybe I should make more research regarding this matter. (or maybe i should just use the other slot for another screen so my display has more room while doing sketchup and rendering huh?)

      thanks also.

    • To sli or not to sli

      Hello to all,

I guess most of you guys have already installed and utilized either a SLI or crossfire inside your pc.

Would it boost sketchup performance installing another geforce 8500gt 512mb (since my original videocard is also the same thing) or would it better buying a brandnew 1gb videocard (no brand yet, just looking first if ever recommendations would lead into buying a 1gb vc).

I just thought that since my old 8500 is not really crappy, buying another one would be cheaper. Or buying a 1gb vc would be off the hook compared to 2 sli vc.

      thanks in advance.

    • RE: It keeps crashing!!!

      It sucks when it crashes....

I went through that stage when I had a 32mb video card before, an open case cpu with a fan full blast to keep my cpu run cool.

It also cool working on sketchup, together listening in a winamp, and browsing internet.

but in the end we all depend on the hardwares of our computer.

I dont have the latest cpu. Dual core athlon64 x2, 2gig ram, 512mb video, but i still make sure to close other programs when woking with sketchup just to make sure I dont get crahsed and have a better response.

try to download the latest one, it did save my time once.

    • RE: Walkable commercial center

I know the concept is not new but not everyone appreciates how it flows almost endlessly.

I didnt got much time to have details because the owner would like to know how does it look from a far. This would cater much in a small and medium entre's and yes, its it near town homes.

Its practically a single part of a resort im doing.

      Im glad you apprciate it.

    • RE: I miss doing work like this

The house itself was hand drawn. Rendring was done in Photoshop. I was hoping to post a larger image like everybody else is doing but when I upload it was only asking me to have 800x800 pixels and not more than 256k of size.

I must admit its not very nice up close. Its better to look at it a far....

Anyway thanks to all the feedback and comments.

      Hope to do more soon.

    • Some Vray render I did (again)

      Ok,

This one I did while holidays was just passing by here. I made some experiments on "Indirect Lighting" and Gamma Output and Inputs.

I have a rough idea how to tweak it but why do shadows of sketchup doesnt seem to have any effect on vray renderings? I thought the image would look fairly good when there are different shades.

I tried to render also a 3d tree from skecthup but the leaves turned out to be set of squares. Is this why we already use trees and people cut-outs so they wont look so fake anymore when rendered in vray?

A friend of mine in his website told me that I should use an indirect lighting for the shadows, but wouldnt this make the image brighter?

      Thanks.

    • RE: Help please...test rendering vray sketchup

      Hi Modelhead,

Im kinda familiar with your name, didnt you just had an avatar or picture of a rear baldman's head?

Well this is my family and thank you for your comment. I just have to crop it so it could fit in the requirement of the being sqaure. Thats my wife and my baby girl, the big one is my niece and the one cropped is suppose to be my nephew.

I like that picture so much, we were playing around with my brand new laptop back then.

I like warm families. Thats the reason I dont work on saturdays. Saturdays are for family (or friends, relatives or sometimes just spending time for yourself), Sundays are resting & reflections, so Im fueled for the incoming weekdays again.

I dont encourage this to everyone, im still a workaholic but Id like to suppress that "holic" thing just up to friday 11:59pm. Its not perfect because there are times that I have to work extra hard for the weekends for a presentation and deadlines......

Try it for a week or two....then see for yourself....
but like I said also, its not for everyone....

and f.y.i., the picture was taken on a saturday evening while were watching a disney movie.

      happy weekends.

please have a comment or two on my render. I badly need assistance. I cant show these to my clients.
