I tested this model with another render app and it renders with all layers on, sure the model is very heavy and the vegetation should be done with proxy's to keep sizes more manageable.
If you need help rendering this just let me know, I am NOT using Vray however.

      Hi Solo.

Can you tell me which renderer you are using?

To be honest, I am surprised that Vray is crashing with a model that is now under 28MB. We are rendering on a 64 bit iMac with 8GB memory.

Maybe I am doing something wrong?

      Hi Charlie,

Unfortunately Sketchup is still a 32 bit program. Because V-Ray is a full production rendering system inside of Sketchup it cannot access a full 64 bit system. This, sadly, limits you to just under 4GB. That is why the 64 bit workflow was invented. We don't want users to have to export renderings to a 3rd party rendering system outside of Sketchup so we limit our selves in lieu of adding additional workflow. My suggestion is to revisit the 64bit workflow, found here in this tutorial: http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY2SKETCHUP/64+Bit+Workflow.

One thing the workflow fails to mention (and I'll correct this on monday), is that you don't have to use the "No Memory" render, you can also use the "Preview" render. This will show you what the scene looks like as its being rendered.

This coupled with proxies should give you great results.

I do hope this helps, and if you are still having problems, email support@chaosgroup.com and mention my user name from the forum and the ticket will get directed to me.

      Best,

      Ted

    • RE: Sketchup Vray rendering problem

If you are rendering a large image size, you can still run out of memory. Take a look at the 64bit rendering tutorial on our tutorial page: http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY2SKETCHUP/64+Bit+Workflow

This should help alleviate your issue.

    • RE: Batch render vray (sizes render images)

Andy- To avoid that issue, turn off your scene transitions, and set the scene duration to 0. You shouldn't have a problem after that.

    • RE: Reflection map + Fresnel

There are a number of ways to do this, no right or wrong way though. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Could you share the material you are trying to create, or an image of something similar to what you are trying to create?

    • RE: Batch render vray (sizes render images)

V-Ray 2.0 solved this by providing a simple batch render button. Takes a lot of the headache out of setting up a batch render.

I think you want to know if there is a way to scale the image down in your GI and BG settings, and unfortunately that is not a supported function as of yet.

    • RE: Glass material transparant and reflective

Don't use transparency on class. Use Refraction. Transparency in V-Ray is not handled well. If its thin transparent glass, set the transparency to 0 (white) and and a reflection layer with a color filter if need be, but don't use transparency.

If you are using 2 point perspective this may occur. Unfortunately 2 point perspective is not supported at this time.

    • RE: What is the right way to model for "vray for sketchup"?

I always suggest modeling how it would actually be constructed to get the best results. If you have a concrete floor slab ant the walls are attached to it, then model it like that. Groups are your friends and so are components. Also make sure all of your faces are oriented correctly so that you don't run into problems with back faces facing outward. Really, there's no wrong way to model in Sketchup for V-Ray, there are just more and less efficient ways to work.

If you share your model here I would be happy to take a look and give you some more tips!

    • RE: Praspective

      Hi,

In your camera settings there is a tool called "Lens Shift". To get rid of the extreme angles try running an RT render and then tweaking that camera setting. Start at .2 to see what kind of result you get. Unfortunately we cannot match the SketchUp scene exactly in two point perspective mode. We will however support it in the future.

Please submit your question to support@chaosgroup.com with a more detailed description of your process and what is happening in your scene when you render. If you would like to provide us with the scene, please do so using a file sharing service of your choice. We typically use http://www.dropbox.com.

Good luck animating something like that in Sketchup. One suggestion would be to animate it using section planes I suppose.
