I want to add the CarPaint property to a material, and in the Quick Settings panel I get the message to use the Advanced Settings Panel, where is that?

For the most part, it's unbelievable how fast it loaded a complicated interior model after hitting render! I barely blinked one time and.. snap! Great job!

On the right and left sides of the UI you have some flyout panels you can open. That's where both the material Library and the advanced parameters live. 2.0 materials are supported and render just the same, but if you have any layered material (reflection, on top of refraction and diffuse) it will default to the advanced panel. I would recommend making a new material in SketchUp and trying out the quick settings. You can change just about anything in the material quick settings. If you need additional help let me know!

I can't find Plugins folder in my SU installation folder. vfs.rb is also missing.
Downloaded both apps and reinstalled them. Nothing changed.

So sorry you've been running into this. We've made some changes to our installer to resolve this issue and will release an update to the beta. If you email support@chaosgroup.com they can also help fix this directly.

Really nice function, thanks for integrate it. Have you any plans or tips on programs to link several panoramas together so you can easy swish between panoramas?

No plan on creating anything like that but I would go check out IrisVR's Scope App, I think it will be a good start for what you are looking for!

We should not have any plugin conflicts, but I would be interested in finding out what errors you are running into @chavinskee. Please Post here or PM me with details. I don't like hearing users get that frustrated and I would like to try and track down the issue at hand so it doesn't effect others.

Great video! Please let me know if you have questions about workflows or want to give any feedback about the product. I'll be looking forward to seeing your future posts and videos!

Also, just some info on Stereo 6:1, you don't have to have a special VR Headset, all you need is an iPhone or Android phone and a google cardboard. I typically use the Scope app (irisvr.com/scope) from iris VR (irisvr.com). You have to sign up for their website, but the rest is free! It's a very simple process. Upload your 6:1 to your user profile page then sign into the scope app and download the image to your mobile device. That's it! Your up and viewing!

I'd also recommend you turn on Fog in SketchUp and see what happens 😉

It would definitely be possible. You would have to create an "x-ray" style equivalent material in V-Ray and apply it to the component you are trying to highlight to have the effect your looking for. Try the material I've created and attached. Its going to render a bit more slowly, but it should work for what you are trying.

I maybe wasn't clear enough but I would like to use X-Ray one everything except the componen I want to highlight so that it's easier to see. It would be a lot of work if I would have to change all other material in the model to be X-Ray.

So you would need to apply this "xray style" material to everything but the object you would want rendered.

I know guys, I know. I'm sorry we've been so quiet, and there is really no excuse for that, but we have some good news on the horizon. V-Ray 3.0 for SketchUp is being built from the ground up and is a completely different animal. It is going to give us frame work that allows the VfS team to be more nimble, and shorten development cycles between releases significantly. That way we no longer have these long waits and extensive periods of time where we leave everybody hanging. You can feel free to rest that clearly on my shoulders.

That said there is still a lot that needs to be done, but there are great things coming I promise. Those of you who were dedicated testers on the 2.0 release will be joining us for our 3.0 testing and if you're interested in participating please PM me as soon as you can.

I'm sorry to have made you all wait so long for any information. But I want to make V-Ray for SketchUp the best possible product on the market!

Glad to hear it worked! Ill upload the file as soon as I have a chance. What kind of hardware are you working on at the moment? It was slow for me as-well (running a core i7 3770 32gb ram), but I cranked up the settings too.

    • RE: Incredibly slow render times for an optimized model

Your problem isn't your settings its your glass material. Light is calculated more slowly for transparency vs refraction. You'll see better results if you go through and replace all your glass materials with refractive glass (see attached).

To use refractive glass, you'll also need to make sure you thicken your glass planes (which it looks like you've already done). A one sided transparent plane causes problems because it takes more time to calculate the light through it.

I've also updated your scene settings and will pack your scene back up I post it here with a time stamped render once it completes. Its turning into a very nice render!

    • RE: Vray Materials Show As Grey, Sketchup Material Synch

It looks like there's a map in the Displacement and bump slot but not in the diffuse slot. Could you expand the reflection and diffuse and Maps section of the material so that we can see more clearly what you have set-up?

Sometimes if a map is lost on the SketchUp side of things, all you have to do is re-map in the SketchUp material to the correct material location.

For some reason when I pack it, it gets to 129MB. I'm not sure I can attach such huge model onto this forum. Can I upload it elsewhere and post a link?

Use something like dropbox, or an equivalent, and share a download link. That's typically how I tell people to share models.

As far as the size is concerned, that's about right. V-Ray references a lot more information (textures, proxies, lights etc..) and those begin to add up when packing the scene because it collects everything on your drive and places it into a zip folder, the zip file will show the actual size of the model verses the Sketchup size (hence the 35mb to 129mb bloat after you packed the scene) This is normal and to be expected, but we may be able to further optimize the scene from there.

    • RE: Incredibly slow render times for an optimized model

Can you share the model so that we can test? Extensions> V-Ray> Pack Scene.

Also, have you purged out layers and components? Purge components then purge materials, otherwise you dont get rid of everything extra.

Finally, V-Ray BRDF Layers using Refractive materials will render faster than just adding a reflection layer on top of a transparent diffuse layer, but you have to have 3 dimensional geometry (thickened glass) for it to work properly.

      @josephskibba said:

      Hello -

I was wondering if I could "reprogram" a mini usb (flash drive) and use it as the Vray dongle?

I'm on a laptop and it would be super nice to utilize something smaller. Working from home, at the office or in a client's office it's terribly inconvenient to always be locating, plugging in the dongle and then starting up the license software. What if other software packages required a dongle? I love Vray, but this is extremely annoying.

      Thanks in advance,
      Joe

Sorry Joe, In the future we will move away from the Dongle but for 2.0 you're stuck with it. However, you can set it up as an on-line licensing system and host it from a home computer or work machine. Email us at support@chaosgroup.com and write in the header Attn: Ted Vitale and I can get you somebody who can walk you through the process if thats something you would like to pursue.

    • RE: Vray rendering

It could be a lot of things honestly. But most often its either a bad/overly complicated material, or a corrupted scene. Be sure you are using the latest version of V-Ray for Sketchup, found on http://www.chaosgroup.com under the downloads section after you log in. You can also submit your issue to support@chaosgroup.com.
