check out the attached photo... the circles I placed show some of the elements that really bring this render home for me... the subtle reflections and shadows made me double take on if this was real, model or composition of both... if the glass in the benz had been darker you might have had me... awesome job... great selection of camera location, really captured a future complete view... Thanks Shaun. This particular model is an oldie I have been tarting up to put on my website. The job has actually been built. It was an interesting job...the Clients were newly arrived Vietnamese with virtually no English. We communicated via translators [a different one every time] pointing at pictures and body gestures, nods and head shakes. In the end it was win/win all round. BTW if any Mods want to move this thread to the Gallery, please do. Stu

Google is probably migrating the "Old Forums" to the Groups right now. The Groups are exceptionally slow and you have to post things 2 or 3 times until they get through - you know I often post there too; kind of a "mission" I guess... "Scaleability"? I wonder what improvements they are going to implement - but they haven't "warned" the Groups users about the changes yet. Though there are maybe only about half a dozen regular posters there who cares - and they are regular visitors of the Pro Forums, too, so they might already know that something is happening...

Things can also break down. The other day one of my colleagues plugged in his digicam. The digicam didn't mount as expected, and at the same time his mouse stopped working, and after several restarts we still couldn't get the machine to accept any USB devices, so we had to send it for repairs (still under warranty). Having my 4th external drive know, i noticed two things to be important for me: the drive should have an on/off switch for a long lasting lifetime an integrated fan does a well job my vented hd only reaches 38°C max., while the others reach 53°C and above when doin hard work... if the chipset of your external case provides it, you may read out the smart info with this (free) tool and compare yourself: http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2006.01.22-HDDScan/ greetings marne

I've looked at Modo in the past but found it a bit daunting after using Sketchup and didn't have the time to look at it any more detail. I might test the new version again when they get round to making a free demo available, as the renders look great. I have to say though that the projects in the link could all be done very easily in Sketchup, there was no organic modelling involved. Personally speaking I can hardly think of a single project where I needed to do 'organic' modelling. It's talked about a lot as a shortcoming of Sketchup, but for those involved in architecture/urban design, organic modelling is rarely required unless you're Frank Gehry! Having said that there is a modeller called MOI which is meant to be easy to use for curvy stuff which might be worth a trial: http://moi3d.com/index.htm Kenny

That makes sense though. One teacher I had was an English major, but he often would bring interesting things to me to read during my lunch hour, or have some story to tell me about some thing or another. One time he explained to me alot of stuff about how the human brain reacts in isolated situations. The example that he used was the Tom Hanks movie, Cast Away. If left alone long enough, without sufficient stimuli, the human brain will attempt to create its own things to interact with. A form of torture is sensory deprivation for a reason; after a while the victim will begin to see, hear, or feel things that arent there. Although I do have to admit that I don't want to be on that plane when the pilot suddenly thinks he is no longer in control of the plane.

Hi Susan and others, I purchased the SketchUp version of the plan view plants for a site plan I was doing. It worked beautifully and last night the Executive Board members and the President of the Congregation came by to meet, saw the newly embellished plan and were extremely pleased. Adding all the cars, trees, shrubs and with shadows turned on does take a heavy load on computer time but the output is worth it. Great value and of course Susan was helpful to the extremen because I initially downloaded the wrong version and she helped me get to what I needed. Thanks Susan. Allen

I recently switched to Vista, (nearly switched to a Mac - might have been better). I have discovered that Architectural desktop 2006 3DS Max 6 - 8 Pov-Ray V-Ray Truespace PowerCAD Revit (before latest release, only tried an older version) TurboCAD (ditto) AutoCad versions previous to 2008 Sketchy Physics and several other Su plugins Loads of useful older software that i have won't run or don't run properly on Vista. Maybe there are ways to get them to run but I don't have the time or the inclination to find out and at the moment can't afford the software upgrades. ProgeCAD and Cycas run fine on Vista so I can still do CAD. In general though, as an OS for design software, Vista sucks in my opinion, but it does look nice and er, that's it. No other real advantages that I can see. I heard Dell have dropped Vista completely for Ubuntu Linux. And SU will run on linux. Anssi, thanks, I sort of get what you are saying. The laptop's video card will be able to cope with the monitors resolution.....so, to put it simply....if I plug the monitor into the laptop, will the monitor automaticlly configure to its native resolution...or would I need to set it up each time? And out of interest is anybody regularly using this type of setup?...or will I probably find that I would simply work mostly on the lappie [my first one, and probably a 17"] Thanks, Stu
