I have found there are times when I want to copy something from another page and change the layer. I like how that works right now.

Instead of using line work to show existing vs. new, I use the styles to highlight the addition or new work. I found this to work really well for addition remodel projects.

    • RE: What is fastest way to convert SU components to scrapbook?

The quick fix for that last issue is to simply re group them. Once you have exploded them, you can edit all the entities just like you normally would in LO. This is better than simply using styles as you can make an individual symbol display more than one type of line thickness, color or transparency. One thing I have done with my window and door symbols that works well is setting the symbol so that it has a bold outline, with a semi-transparent back ground that is white. So if you place the window or door symbol slightly over a divided lite or hardware, you can still see the pattern or element.

Sonder, is there some magic way you get dims to lock? I frequently update views and find dimensions left detached and floating although the original points are still there just in a slightly different location.

I responded to your other thread. If you are frequently updating, is it possible that you originally dimensioned to a "modified" scene and then corrected later. That would do it.

    • RE: What is fastest way to convert SU components to scrapbook?

Hi Peter - are you making the entities into components? Always make components and not just loose geometry..............for most everything.

      1. Create symbols or whatever you are trying to create for scrapbook in SU
      2. Make each symbol into a component
      3. Select all components and copy
      4. Paste into a blank LO file.
      5. Select SU edit box and choose Vector render.
      6. Explode, then ungroup.

You should then have individual symbols and can save as a scrap book. Sounds like a lot of steps, but it goes really fast.

    • RE: Dimensions

The only reason I think this would happen, is if you dimensioned a reference that was a scene labeled as "modified" and not the actual scene. Then when you updated the scene, you reselected the correct scene instead of leaving it as the "modified" scene. Then the dimensions, in theory, would detach as the actual scene is now different.

    • RE: What is fastest way to convert SU components to scrapbook?

      Hi Peter:

You are correct. For simple 2d symbols and such (heck even plan linework), I simply copy and paste them into Layout and set them to a vector render. Layout vector renders simple 2D line work instantly - no waiting time at all. If I were preparing something like an MPE legend in sketchup, I would copy them all at once into Layout. Then in Layout you ungroup them and it will set each entitiy as their own group. Then save as a scrap book and you have a legend. This goes very fast.

    • RE: What is fastest way to convert SU components to scrapbook?

You simply open layout - reference the su file and save as a scrap book. If they are simple objects that you don't intend to edit in the future, simply copy and then paste into the layout file and again, save as a scrap book. Once you save and name that specific scrap book you can add to it anytime.

    • RE: Section planes keep showing up in views

Also make sure the scene in the LayOut is not shown as "scene name" modified. If so, it does not update the reference. You need to reselect the correct scene saved in Sketchup.

    • RE: Move dimension change dimension

Actually, the way dimensions work in Layout is reference based. I think this is a wonderful feature and hopefully never changes. The grips lock onto the reference model points you are dimensioning, so that if you change the model in any way, the dimensions will automatically change accordingly. I've found this a great second check on some of my models where I may have a wall modeled at 2'-0 5/64" by mistake as an example (just happened yesterday). I corrected it in the model and the dimension updated with the reference update. If you need to modify a dimensions grip points, simply double click the dimension and you can modify either grip point as well as modify location of text, etc.

    • RE: Massive slowness OS X

Are you vector rendering or raster? If vector rendering a complex model, you will be slow regardless of the machine if your model is complex.

    • RE: Layout How to get dimensions with feet and inches?

First select the dimension tool. This will ungrey the dimension style tray. Then select architectural and you will be good to go.

    • RE: Styles

Vector mode is too slow IMHO. Raster always looks better and is much faster. The export quality is far higher than what you are seeing on your screen. If you have to use vector, try to isolate line work so you are not vectoring the entire model. I use both, but only vector line work created by the section tool in Sketchup. It works really well.

I should clarify - eraser no longer works by simply flipping the pen.
