This works most of the time for me, but I've run into this on occasion. I just draw a quick line, matching the outside group. Most of the time though it works.....odd.

Yes, double click on the dimension and you can move the "grips".

It seems like the Bentley's 2D/3D Button would be good for all of us.
Actually, I want a right foot pedal switch, that speeds things up.

Nvidia all the way. I've had nothing but problems with ati cards and sketchup. I have the gtx560 and it works great.

RE: Adding Custom Aligned View to Standard Views
I would not want this to change, at least for my workflow. There are times when I want to see offset dimensions, especially when detailing in 3d. All of my plans & sections are generated through the section tool which by default creates a 2d plane that LO follows very well. If LO automatically flattened, it would eliminate the possibility of offset dimensions (which are accurate to their 3d arrangement) as shown in that link. Had those three rectangular cubes been dimensioned via use of the section tool, they would be accurate to their 2d displacement.
Just my 2 selfish cents.

Agreed, Dave is a rockstar in my book!

RE: LO DWG-export to ACAD, need help please
Error404 , the multiple lines usually has to do with how SU creates a wall as an example. It is not two lines, it is 8 (top, bottom & sides). If it has base, windows and trim, the number of lines grow. This process of going between both programs really doubles your workload, and as you mention, creates a disconnect in the process for both you and your client.
I did the same process in the past and it was very frustrating, especially with changes. Diving into LO really helped, once I figured out a great workflow. I haven't looked back. Two months ago, I finished record drawings on my last ACAD project. I don't think I will need to open that program again.

I almost never use dimensions in SketchUp anymore because I feel I have much better control over them in LO and they never disappear into the walls. Here's the link to where I talked about my work around for creating dimensions in perspective in LO. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36670&hilit=dimensions+perspective#p323984 It's not as fast as dimensions in 2D views but it works fine.
Actually I frequently use either guidelines or temporarily drawn lines in SketchUp to guide me for drawing lines in LO. When I've finished tracing them in LO I just delete them from the SU model and rerender. It's slick for creating dashed lines showing how parts in exploded views go together.
I do that also Dave. I keep them on a separate layer that is always off in all scenes. I toggle them on only when I need them in Layout. I also only dimension and note in LO only. I only model in SU.

RE: New Cards - Feedback
I like them both, although if you go for the first one, I would change the color of the font on the black side to sepia, and reverse on the sepia side, similar to the concept on the white card.

Gee Nick, there must be something you can do about that!!! How do you transfer files to sub- consultants electronically?
This is an excellent question. Our electrical and mechanical engineers all request dxf/dwg drawings as they take our base drawings and build theirs on that.
Can you export layout in dxf/dwg?Yes you can and in either model or paper space. What I do for my consultants and my floor plans is create a group from slice in the section tool. This accurately isolates simply line work of a plan or section. Then export that group only as a dwg file. They then have a simple background without all the crap that they usually have to erase. So far my structural engineers and surveyors have commented on how my drawings are the easiest to deal with. Pretty funny considering I don't even open ACAD to provide them.

RE: SU 8 Update??
I really like the new logos, especially the representation of layout to sketch up.

RE: SU 8 Update??
You might want to try again. Mine updated successfully.

RE: I'm back! What have I missed?!
Beautiful work on the BMW. I haven't been on here that long, but welcome back.
I'm a car nut by the way, so I can really appreciate your work. My avatar picture is from Rennsport reunion at Laguna Seca. It was a huge Porsche event, with just about every year of P-car racing, including several 917k cars. They also had the 918rsr on display......good fun!

RE: I need some help accurately scaling a model like in AutoCAD
So How did you export the model? I've never run into this. While I don't use acad anymore, I do export and send the acad file to several different consultants. We haven't run into a scale issue except for one time, where I exported the model from layout, and the SU reference was not set orthogonal.

Set up the Ortho view in SketchUp and set the camera to Parallel Projection. The viewport for that scene will then give you the option to select the desired scale.
that's exactly what i do. but once i select my desired scale for the viewport (with scenes done in SU). it becomes "modified"
You need to select the SU reference, then select the scene, then scale it, then render it.

RE: Updating Scenes In LO won't show shadow
Dave, it was me that incorrectly said "right click" into the model. I simply meant editing into the model in Layout. Once you do that, you now have a "modified" view. I never edit the SU model in LO FWIW.

Hi. I just checked. the sketchup inspector says (modified) on the scenes.. so how do i fix this? or how did this happen? so there's no way i could update my shadows?
Simply reselect the correct scene and render. Anytime you access te SU model through LO, the scene is modified. You will see in the pull down list all the original scenes in your SU model.
