I can't see how, but is it possible to lock a Layout page, or maybe a Sketchup reference, so that a reference update doesn't screw up a page?

    Thx

In document setup you can select the model and 'unlink'. This does exactly what it says. The model in Layout will now be independent of the SU version which you can then bring into LO as a differently named model to avoid confusion.
Alternatively, you could 'save as' each version of your model. Then bring them in separately to LO. This way you can still advantage of 'Update reference' if you do need to make changes to individual files.

Set your reference on its own layer and lock it. Also uncheck Auto render in Preferences/general.
