RE: Updating Scenes In LO won't show shadow
Simply changing the scale does not "modify" the scene. You all must be doing something else.

RE: Questions raised by Nick Sonder's videos
Since those are screen shots, is your edit mode set to low? LO exports really high quality PDF even when set to Low, so the final products resolution is much higher than the screen. Also, what monitor and video card are you using? The Raster image will have pixelation for sure, but with the final print, it is not easily noticed unless you press your face to the page.

RE: Some new videos of my process
Thanks for all the kind words.
Regarding details, all the notation is done in LO. This still works as a library of sorts as you can simply copy the reference with the notation to another sheet. Since I structure them the way I do, I am generally copying whole sheets to new jobs depending on the construction type. Regarding infringement of means and methods, I have never considered architectural detailing to be an issue. As long as you are following real methods of construction you are fine. I do work with a lot of different contractors, and many of my details have developed based upon their installation techniques along with manufacturers installation manuals. Back in the day, I was also an avid reader of Architectural G&S.
As for the tablet, I use a Wacom Intuous 3. The biggest advantage is no fatigue, and you can orbit/ zoom simultaneously.
All the static models are simply updated, any time I make changes. I've made it just a part of my protocol when opening those files to update the reference.

Some new videos of my process
Hi folks:
There are 6 new videos detailing some of my process in case you are interested.
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=Z3xUOAicq-Y&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DZ3xUOAicq-Y
These were prepared by Trimble from a visit to my office last month.
You can find the others from this first link.
I hope they are helpful.

RE: Autodesk and Sketchup
Lets all take a moment and pray that Autodesk keeps its hands off. SU and LO already have many things to offer that Adt and revit cant approach.....simplicity being number one.

RE: Layout 3 vector style
Vector rendering a 3d model is a slow process that won't be easily fixed. Layout can vector render 2d line work just as fast as any CAD program - instantly in fact. Vector rendering a 2d wall, requires the rendering of only 4 lines. Vector rendering a 3d wall has a minimum of 12 lines. This grows exponentially if you have trim, window and doors in the wall.

RE: How to create a Mask in Layout
Yes, it saves with the scene when updated after adjustment.

RE: How to create a Mask in Layout
Fog is really easy to use. I set it up always in SU saved to the scene. Once you understand how the two arrows work, it is really intuitive. I like to think of the two as - right arrow = overall fog thickness - thicker as you slide to the left. Left arrow = fog depth from view point to your model - gets thinner as you slide it towards the right arrow.
I wish the fog in my brain were so easily controlled.

RE: Profiles?
Very cool guys. I'm going to play around with this a bit as well.

RE: Softened and Hidden Lines problem getting ridiculous
In our last discussion on the subject, we isolated the occurrence to having something selected, while you save the file. I've made a habit of deselecting before I save, and I haven't run into the Susie since.

RE: Anti-SketchUp! Snobbery [or Ignorance?]
Well I couldn't disagree more. I find sketchup and layout far more powerful for architectural applications than acad. I learned cad starting on version 2.3. My last version I used was adt4 (version 2004). I am officially done with ACAD. it is a program that is cumbersome not only in its user interface, but in its internal programming. While I do mainly projects under 10,000 sf, I would have no hesitation taking on large scale projects.

RE: How to create a Mask in Layout
Charles - that is exactly how I do it. Works really well and super fast.

RE: Basecamp Silence
Yes, it was a great time for all. David and Amy are great folks. I had a few drinks with them up on the rooftop bar. Great to meet so many talented folks. Nice to hear Aidan pitch the possibility of making it a yearly event.

RE: Dotted lines
This thread is a good example of why I love the SU / LO combination. It is so customizable graphically. Really brings the fun back into what used to be the most miserable aspect of architecture. I love seeing all these different methods. Looking forward to basecamp!

RE: Addendum/revision clouds
They are under "TB Drafting symbols 2"
I freehand mine with the line tool.
